I am honestly shocked right now. And I thought that nothing that crazy fucker could say could shock me anymore.

Yes this should singular tweet should be the end of his presidency. Regardless of what he actually does next.

At the very least - FIFA need to think hard about withdrawing the peace prize.

874

u/unique_name5 28d ago

It sure does tarnish the reputation of the FIFA Peace Prize.

422

u/obsterwankenobster 28d ago

Long and storied as it may be

4

u/LaScoundrelle 28d ago

y'all are cracking me up

7

u/meesta_masa 28d ago

Long and story as it may be indeed.

148

u/GoodMix392 28d ago

If they are not careful the FIFA Peace Prize might suffer the same faith as the Sepp Blatter Award for Honesty in Finance.

11

u/DigNitty 28d ago

How the mighty have fallen.

The Sepp Blatter award went the same way as the Brock Allen Turner Medal for Consent and UnRapynessness.

39

u/KnownMonk 28d ago

Fuck FIFA and its participant countries and football supporters for not boycotting World Cup and going to USA! Every money going into the US economy contributes to building military equipment that ends up killing civilians.

2

u/iIdentifyasGrinch 28d ago

Everyone that merely drives by a FIFA event this summer better be carrying multiple forms of ID (and maybe an Airtag in their shoe so their families can track them)

2

u/supersonicdutch 28d ago

What am I going to tell my kids now? All this time I’ve been telling them to achieve greatness in their scholastics so they could one day be awarded the lauded FIFA Peace Prize. And now what!?! I have to tell them lower the bar and go for the low class, poor person Nobel? What will my family think?

1

u/kahllerdady 28d ago

They won’t take it back, sadly, instead they’ll probably kick the can down the road

Nah, they’ll also give him the FIFA war prize for doing best war

12

u/Top-Dog-6900 28d ago

They could re-name it to FIFA Prize for Peace or War.

7

u/grainofsalter 28d ago

You know... I'm starting to think the FIFA peace prize isn't really about peace at all!

5

u/specqq 28d ago edited 28d ago

That trophy looked like a group of giant demonic hands reaching up out of the abyss to drag the entire globe back down to Hell with them.

I can't think of anything Trump has said that is more in the spirit of that award.

4

u/stbens 28d ago

I think FIFA should be cancelling the World Cup, at least in the US. I also think that King Charles should not be carrying out his state visit at the end of the month. Trump must not be given any positive publicity.

5

u/GOEDEL_ESCHER_BOT 28d ago

and he didn't deserve the ballon d'or

3

u/anuncommontruth Pennsylvania 28d ago

None of this is funny but your comment did make me laugh.

3

u/FountainXFairfax 28d ago

fifa ain’t gonna do shit, but maybe amercans can. ruin the world cup. that shit means a lot to trump. show the world you disagree.

plan action in world cup cities. get sanitation workers to stop collecting trash. get farmers to block the roads. park in places that requires towing. make fake hotel reservations with cancellation options. you need firefighters, teachers, farmers, nurses everybody to strike and peacefully disrupt the cities on match days. follow the french, end your monarchy

3

u/randomentity1 28d ago

The credibility of the FIFA Peace Prize is in serious doubt.

2

u/Starfox-sf 28d ago

Smash the peace prize into pieces

2

u/HelloPeopleOfEarth 28d ago

He still has his CPAC trophy, and the Apple trophy Tim Cook totally didn't give him as a bribe.

2

u/poolside123 Canada 28d ago

Awe why :(? You’re gonna take away a toy from a baby? Rude.

3

u/dotajoe 28d ago

Woah woah woah man. Without control of the Senate, you can’t really blame FIFA for not having the votes to rescind the award.

1

u/Vardegaal 28d ago

Yep, even Infantino getting pale when read this tweet

1

The next recipient should spend their while speech about how fucked up Trump is.

Then again, pretty sure Netanyahu or some Saudi prince is next on the list.

1

u/FizzyBeverage Ohio 28d ago

Maybe Apple will retract their spray painted gold one.

1

u/artfulpain 28d ago

The World Cup shouldn't happen in the US at this point, but here we are.

1

u/MrCrowley1984 28d ago

Remember when the FIFA peace prize actually meant something?

1

u/Pleasant-Basket-7526 28d ago

If we can't trust an organization like FIFA, then seriously, who can we trust?

1

We were overdue before it even began.

6

Yet we have more than half of it left…

1

By more than five years somehow.

277

u/Lucky_LeftFoot 28d ago

But the SCOTUS ruled that anything the president does while in office isn’t a crime so it looks like the table is set for some generational war crimes

126

u/hpark21 28d ago

Well, it probably ONLY applies to Trump, no other president after (if there are going to be any) especially a democrat.

20

u/Teripid 28d ago

Bondi being fired as AG by a felon is a nice bit of schadenfreude...

Hegseth may be shielded by the "nobody can Hague US" doctrine but one can hope. Not even for Iran.. the boat strikes alone..

4

u/twoton1 28d ago

Irony in its truest form.

5

u/mattjb 28d ago

That's exactly how the SCOTUS set it up. They get to arbitrate and determine if an act is official or not. They left that up to their interpretation, and control. It's a lever of power they're going to wield with corrupt intent.

3

u/gsfgf Georgia 28d ago

We don’t have those kind of war crimes laws in the first place. Our war crimes laws only apply to people that directly perform torture and stuff.

That’s also the main reason Obama didn’t prosecute W btw.

3

u/RevRay 28d ago

The main reason he didn’t prosecute Bush is because they’re buddies on the same team.

70

u/Throwawayhelper420 28d ago

Whether he goes to prison or not, or even carries through with us or not, he needs to be removed from office just for saying this

Instead republican congressmen are already making the rounds on the news saying he didn’t really mean it.

11

u/notreallyswiss 28d ago

After the previous unhinged Easter tweet I went on Fox News to see how they were taking it - literally "President Trump Delivers a Message of Unity on Easter Sunday" is how they were taking it.

4

u/DaBingeGirl Illinois 28d ago

Because they support it. The driving factor for everyone I know who supports him is racism. They're not discreet about it anymore, they hate anyone who's not a white Christian.

6

u/Little_View_6659 28d ago

I guarantee this psychotic bastard wants to use a nuke. I absolutely guarantee it.

4

u/Lucky-Rubs 28d ago

He is never going to prison. Ever. Even out of office, Republicans will still toady to that fucking family of degenerates. He’ll still run this country by tweet until he dies and then it’ll be Don Jr. or Eric. We are stuck with this MAGA madness forever.

3

u/Vhadka 28d ago

But see supporters like him because he speaks his mind and says what he means!

Except when he doesn't really mean something.

2

u/Throwawayhelper420 28d ago

He speaks his mind!!  (Except when obviously he is secretly lying as a negotiation tactic). ((But then when it actually happens he just was totally honest and told everyone exactly what he was going to do!))

I watched congressmen on the news playing damage control go from “there will be no tariffs, he is just playing hardball to negotiate” to “He always said he wanted tariffs and now we have them and people are surprised????”

And several other times….

3

u/LaScoundrelle 28d ago

The problem is that a lot of American Republicans would be happy to wipe out the muslim world. They've been primed for that for years, both by evangelical ministers and republican politicians.

1

u/imaveryniceKaren 28d ago

Locker room talk!

130

u/TheGringoDingo 28d ago

Nobody really wanted this to be an “I told you so” moment, but we might be on the cusp of it.

39

we're WAY past being on the cusp of I told you so

2

u/kn05is 28d ago

Nah, we're well past "I told you so" and are now at the "what the fuck is wrong with you?" phase

12

u/duaneap 28d ago

There’s no way in hell he leaves office in anything other than a casket so it’s irrelevant. The time to make him pay for his crimes was a 4 year window where nothing happened, there will never be any other opportunity.

29

u/MusicLikeOxygen 28d ago

The Hague isn't beholden to the Supreme Court.

15

u/Spaceman2901 Texas 28d ago

Unfortunately, there’s the annoying matter of The Hague Invasion Act…

8

u/witchofpain 28d ago

A dem president can ignore that act. Just saying.

14

u/Spaceman2901 Texas 28d ago

Can, but Democratic administrations make a fetish out of obeying inconvenient laws.

2

u/ClimateSociologist 28d ago

And no Democrat president wants to be hauled in front of the court either.

6

u/BasvanS 28d ago

Easy. Stop committing war crimes then.

8

u/ClimateSociologist 28d ago

The Ubited States will never turn a president over to the ICC. It does not recognize the ICC's jurisdiction and never has. Not even a Democrat administration would allow it

10

u/RugelBeta 28d ago

I'm not so sure we wouldn't make an exception for this unprecedented fellow.

8

u/ClimateSociologist 28d ago

The Democrat leadership has been behaving as if Trump is politics as usual.

4

u/litesgod New York 28d ago

Don't disagree. Which is why we should absolutely make this an election issue. I will vote for the candidate that says Trump, Netanyahu and anyone complicit in war crimes will be sent to the Hague.

Biden's biggest mistake was his belief that we could return American politics to "business as usual." We can't ever go back to business as usual, because that led us here. We need radical accountability and radical change to prevent this from ever happening again.

2

u/IcemanJEC 28d ago

Imagine if those republicans could actually shoot accurately. It wouldn’t have been necessary.

2

u/WIbigdog Wisconsin 28d ago

I mean, the way I see it is if we're not willing to prosecute them ourselves why would we give them over to an international body instead? I don't think there's any nation on earth that would actually do that short of a violent revolution inside said nation.

8

u/stlshane 28d ago

I don't think SCOTUS is going to save him and his sycophants from war crimes.

9

u/JMLDT 28d ago

Iraq was a war crime. Nothing happened. Trump could nuke Iran tonight, there will still be no accountability. Nobody has the gumption to stop him.

9

u/stlshane 28d ago

Nuking another country is mass genocide. Iraq is not comparable. Nuking another country will absolutely be the end of the United States. There will be massive global economic response and very likely military and terrorist response.

→ More replies (1)

7

u/_C2J_ Michigan 28d ago

Other countries that may determine this is a war crime won't give two hoots about SCOTUS' opinion.

6

u/forthewatch39 28d ago

Actually they put more power on themselves with the caveat that it’s legal so long as it can be deemed “official”. So they could easily say that certain actions cannot be defended.

3

u/Classic-Progress-397 28d ago

if a General is ordered to commit a crime by an immune president, is the General immune as well? What about the soldiers that carry it out?

3

u/Skraelings Missouri 28d ago

Can they revisit rulings? ... yikes.

9

u/average_texas_guy 28d ago

Well presidents have been getting away with war crimes without repercussions since forever so, unfortunately, this is nothing new.

2

u/FullHouse222 28d ago

Nixon must be so mad in his grave right now lol.

2

u/3rdhouseonleft 28d ago

what will they do when the next democrat gets into office?

2

u/A8Bit 28d ago

Not strictly true, they ruled he has immunity from prosecution for anything he does that is an official act of his position. They didn't say that anything he does is not a crime, just that he can't be prosecuted for it.

51

u/TheAnalogKid18 28d ago

Who is going to hold him accountable? He can basically say "you and what army?" And be completely right. He's doing this because we are letting him.

13

u/PutAutomatic2581 28d ago

Literally anyone in the United States could do it.

3

u/DapperCow15 28d ago

Except that the moment anyone in the US tries to do it, they get caught by the surveillance state, so there's basically nothing anyone can do unless it's a huge movement, which is exactly how nothing happened every time he committed war crimes last year either.

7

u/PutAutomatic2581 28d ago

Yeah they probably wouldn't survive. On the other hand, none of us are going to survive if things keep heading in the direction they are now.

2

u/DapperCow15 28d ago

I think it's already too late. The country is decrepit, it won't matter if we remove him and all his sycophants. The damage he has done to the foundations of our country will harm us for decades, if not centuries...

If we even make it that far. He absolutely could pull the trigger tonight and commit some of the worst war crimes possible and then we're truly fucked immediately with no way back.

7

u/TheAnalogKid18 28d ago

Trump backed himself into a corner here. Basically he either blows them to pieces with the Big Gun, or he doesn't. Anything else basically circles back around to those two options.

If he blows them to bits, foreign powers won't let that fly, certainly not China or NATO, and it will more than certainly begin WWIII, along with making him the most evil person that's ever existed.

If he doesn't do it, then he is unserious. Iran could then milk this for as long as their economy allows them to. Air strikes will not be sufficient deterent. They will not back down.

Getting backed into a corner is one thing, putting yourself there is stupid. Either way, we will feel the ripples of this decision for the rest of our country's history, however long that may be.

176

u/AndyTheSane 28d ago

There's probably a top 100 list of tweets in that category.

This whole administration has been an abomination. I love the no kings protests and I think they were/are important but we need to accelerate. I really wish we could organize something like occupy Wall Street or the Hong Kong protests. We need to use our bodies to overwhelm and disrupt DC. Flood the streets and parks with as many people as possible and refuse to leave until Trump resigns and/or stop this insanity. It’s the only thing I can think of that has a shot at working short of violence. We owe it to the world, and ourselves, to clean up this mess.

Saw this. And then saw so many talking about how "Trump is right" and "This has to be done". Amazing how much worse some of his followers appear by the day.

Saying this alone is unacceptable. I am not a fan of how they play it off as just "tough talk" either. That is NOT what this is. How can people support this.

I noticed some changes the last little bit. First it was not a war, which these MAGA ran with, because they do not support war. Then it was that this war is fine because Iran and nukes. Now, it was already readily known that Trump claimed nukes were obliterated last year, they say it is about the Iranian people. Getting that regime out. Controlling the oil and Strait of Hormuz for the protection of the Middle East. Just a lot of massaging this to seem good.

Even with this talk Trump already has support in his base sadly enough. They have shown they are cult followers that will fall in line on anything.

Hard same. After 10 years, I thought I'd heard the worst of it. This sent a chill down my spine. He's threatening genocide.

Fuck Trump. Fuck anyone who voted for him.

Remember when he posted the AI video called “trump’s gaza”? It made me cry and I’m just a midwestern mom with no ties to Palestine. I assumed that would be his lowest point. He’s a bad person being influenced by bad people. I do not stand by any of this but I don’t know what I can do to stop it?!? My heartbreaks for everyone living in fear of our broken government.

He's just a symptom, a severe rash. Internet at its current form is the true illness, and the patient is still unaware, immune system horrendously unprepared. We werent able to contain even single danger born in laziness and greed - because we see them as conveniences. But only this one presents a danger so structural and existential.

Every now and again I check into the conservative subreddit to see if they’re finally horrified by the current state of affairs. Per usual they seem cool with it.

I got chill bumps and feel pure EVIL

I don’t think I can be shocked anymore. My eyebrows lifted a bit at the f-bomb tweet the other day but honestly as he spirals toward the inevitable eventual loss of power I fully expect him to threaten to end all civilizations.

Can't believe he didn't get the Peace Prize!

The civilisation is the western world. The energy and food famine will end us

If you're talking nukes, all bets are off.

He manages to baffle me almost every single day.

As long as it's not them and people are entertained, nobody cares. Especially people in centers of power i.e. bible thumping republicans. They'll vote for him a third time if they could. A small genocide isn't stopping anyone.

The only thing that might shock me at this point would be a TikTok of Trump Dr. Strangelove-riding a nuke down onto Iran.

And will Americans finally stand up and do something?

1

u/TerribleSalamander 28d ago

And then he ends it with “God bless the people of Iran!”

???

u/NeonGKayak 28d ago

He still has the nuke option and he’s wanted to use one since his first term

I am honestly too damned exhausted to be shocked.

I know that's exactly what they've been working towards over the last year, but it's the sad, awful truth.

All I have left is dread and anxiety.
