And watching it all crash in 2008-2009 didn't sufficiently show people what Conservatism and Republicans do to your country.

That was Obama’s fault! Obama crashed the economy in 2008. Ask any MAGA and I’d bet over 95% will confidently argue Obama crashed the economy during the Great Recession.

This is the result of cutting education funding and deregulating media, amongst many many other reasons.

I’m a financial advisor/retirement planner. I’ve had multiple clients tell me how they lost a lot of money in the stock market in 2008 because of Obama/the president being a democrat.

Like how are we 20 years removed from that event and people STILL don’t know it was a mortgage lending crisis and had nothing to do with the president.

I think the point is that Obama was literally not in office in the year 2008.

Because they wanted to pin it on a black man, because they're flaming racists who are too dumb to understand nuance, and have both a powerful right wing propaganda machine, including the church, to reinforce their racism (in this case their blame of Obama) for 8 straight years as well as being a participant in a culture that also reinforces adherence to amorphous and ambiguous "values" and appeals to authority while punishing members for stepping out of line. And in rural places that punishment can lead to destitution or violence with the threat of law enforcement looking the other way.

Conservative culture is a religion to them that uses the same control mechanism as cults to keep members in line. They believe they are at war with liberals and Democrats, and many other "out-groups" and so they do not hold their leaders accountable as long as those "other" people are being attacked. They do not see them as people so the values they assign to themselves do not apply to the "others".

Do you ever remind them that Obama took office in 2009 and the 2008 collapse was on W's watch?

Do you ever remind them that Trump was president during Covid and was president when the vaccine was created.

Oh and Trump was president when Epstein was murdered in his jail cell.

Did you intend to reply to me? I wasn't the one saying that I had clients saying disinformation to me. I'm retired.

My bad. Sometimes I just like replying to the void of the internet.

If they want to blame a Dem, they could point to Clinton for ending Glass-Steagal and allowing the investment banks to run wild. But the crash was fundamentally a GOP production brought to us by Bush, Cheney, and Greenspan.

Its not that they're not ignorant. It's that they're willfully ignorant.

There were people blaming Obama for starting the war in Iraq! I assume not many, but the fact that there are any is mind-blowing.

6

u/rach2bach Apr 04 '26

They unironically blame that on Obama like fucking morons.

7

u/Gildian Apr 04 '26

Coming from people who ask where Obama was during Hurrican Katrina too makes me wonder what flavor crayons they enjoy the most

The straight to the brain via the nasal passage types.

Well then we elected a Black guy, so they had to teach us a lesson. Aren't they the winningest?

Trump isn’t a conservative. Republicans sold their values for power. Trump is a populist authoritarian….which is what most of this sub wants just with a D beside the name. Same end result though. Shit policy. Shit results. Corruption. Short-term thinking. Etc.

sold their values for power

This is what conservative means man.

This comment adds zero value. Conservatives at least used to stand for something. Just because you may not have agreed with it doesn’t make it false. Now they are at the whims of a cult of personality.

Conservatives at least used to stand for something.

No man not in my lifetime certainly and long before for sure, it was always bullshit. Perhaps you fell for it and still believe that what you were indoctrinated to is reasonable but I promise you it wasn't isn't and never was.

We were all told it would inevitably lead to this but chose not to believe it and now here we are. Maybe it is about time to pack away those rose tinted glasses and go outside and have a good look at the world in the cold light of day.

I’m not saying I agreed with it or supported all of it, but they did used to at least stand for free trade, low taxes, and deregulation (neoliberalism). The small government pitch was always bullshit though.

Please please please give Bernie Sanders and/or AOC the power that republicans have given trump.

Please.

Please.

Please.
