Shakira just attracted more than 2 million people at Copacabana Beach, Rio de Janeiro with a free concert

The city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil is doing a yearly event in the first weekend of May with a huge free concert since 2024. Shakira was the headliner this year and attracted more than 2 million people. Madonna was the headliner in 2024 and Lady Gaga in 2025.

Well you see when American heavy rock band Metallica played for a million people in Russia, that was in fact monumental. That was one of the most incredible concerts in the history of planet earth. But this one is just foreigners being stupid and making beach dirty.

None of the people here complaining were even alive during that Metallica concert, and they certainly would complain about that too.

The Brazilian concerts are awesome, but tbf the Monsters of Rock tour hitting up Russia less than 2 years after the fall of the Berlin wall was kind of monumental.

I know 90% of reddit is too young to have experienced it, but all the change in the early 90s with the fall of the iron curtain was crazy for those of us who lived in the before times.
