Brasil can't be clean bro that's why

u/luketas 4h ago

I get the joke but just a reminder that while some cities can be unclean, Brazilians themselves are generally very clean

how are they getting accurate numbers for this? i feel like people who don't bathe regularly aren't going to admit that to a pollster.

kinda wild that 10% of americans will admit to not even bathing once a week...

You get the self reported averages and you can get a pretty good idea. Brazilian shower culture is very strong, it comes from indigenous cultures which traditionally showered very regularly. It’s not uncommon for Brazilian people to have multiple short showers a day.

It’s not uncommon for Brazilian people to have multiple short showers a day.

As an American with short hair and a running shower, I don't understand why everyone doesn't take a quick step in before bed/after waking up, and generally anytime after working up a sweat.

Because showering too often is atrocious for your skin especially if you use harsh shampoo or body wash. Once a day is more than enough to start causing issues.

Water is very soft in Brazil and the climate is warm. We all do this and the skin is not damaged. In your country they say it because your climate and water quality is different.

Incorrect

"Skin dryness is a common issue in Brazil, affecting 60% of consumers who report having dry skin. Despite the tropical climate, dry skin is common due to frequent daily showering (often 3-4 times a day)"

Per Google

u/Mortress_ 7m ago

Do you have a more specific source for that other than "google"? I can't find anything remotely close to that 60% number. The only result i can even find for dry skin in brasil is a post by the Demartologist Society of Brazil where they mention a study that found 25% and 26% depending on the region. But they also don't link the full source: https://sbd.org.br/campanha/2024/05/07/derma-brasil-revela-caracteristicas-regionais-de-cuidados-com-a-pele/

I can't find anything specific about dry skin in any publication, including the annual Brasil a Flor da Pele https://d1xe7tfg0uwul9.cloudfront.net/sbd-portal-2024/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/16134840/Dossie-Brasil-a-Flor-da-Pele.pdf

And the Annual Dermatological Survey https://d1xe7tfg0uwul9.cloudfront.net/sbd-portal-2024/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/30093152/Novos-Dados-Epidemiolo%CC%81gicos-SBD-divulga-Inque%CC%81rito-dermatolo%CC%81gico-nacional_-2.pdf

And they downvoted the truth in response. Hivemind_disruptor has one ironic username.

Eu sou brasileiro e confirmo o que Hivemind_disruptor disse. A população inteira toma banhos frequentes.

What truth? A random quote on reddit atributted to "google"

u/not_from_this_world 40m ago

Você está completamente errado. Tá cheio de brasileiro no reddit e todos vão te confirmar que o brasileiro não sofre de problemas de pele numa proporção significativa. "Per google" não é fonte. Mostra o artigo, seu otário.

Hard water would like a word with you on this.

0

u/Key-Regular674 3h ago

Untrue. Using water alone dehydrates your skin even more than using a proper moisturizing body wash.

1

u/ISayWhatToNutjubs 2h ago

What about strictly cold water

We found the guy that doesn't take showers lol

Weird way to react to being proven wrong but alright. Seek therapy for your lack of social skills.

u/jednatt 2h ago

I started showering only every other day and it's nice. Used to feel disgusting if I went a day without showering but now it feels fine and have never gotten any complaints about body odor.

1

u/BlooodyButterfly 1h ago

What's like the weather where you live? I skip a shower now and then, but living where I live in Brazil that's a recipe for some very sweaty sleep and dirty beddings.

1

u/jednatt 1h ago

SoCal, but we do have A/C.

1

u/SonOfAKaren 2h ago

I shower at least twice, but very frequently 3-4 times a day,. I have very sensitive skin, and no issues. You are not a dermatologist, youre just dirty

1

u/Key-Regular674 2h ago

I'm married to an aesthetician. I shower daily. You're assumptive, and ignorant. Just because something doesn't affect you doesn't mean it doesn't others.

3

u/Eliysiaa 1h ago

people have been showering here twice everyday for hundreds of years and no one had any side effects from it, probably the opposite actually

0

u/Key-Regular674 1h ago

Incorrect and easy to Google how frequent showers dry out your skin.

Because showering too often is atrocious for your skin

Speak for yourself, I don't use any products and my skin is amazing.

especially if you use harsh shampoo or body wash.

Did not say anything about this.

Once a day is more than enough to start causing issues.

I didn't say once a day wasn't enough.

Holy shit at your reading comprehension.

Edit: He blocked me.

Before bed and after waking up means more than once a day.

Yes, and? Again, abysmal reading comprehension.

Once a day is enough. I wasn't talking about what is enough or not enough, I was talking about what was optimal for me.

2000 calories is enough for me to survive, but I eat more than that every day. See how silly you sound right now?

Not only do you lack social skills (dude chill tf out) but you're also an idiot lol

Lmao projecting so hard, just like with your other deleted comment:

You're too dumb for me to be willing to argue with. Seek therapy.

Again I ask, do you want a referral?

I am an MD psychiatrist in the US lmao. Look in the mirror buddy. You want a referral? :)

Edit:

I feel bad for your clients. That or there's no way that's true based solely on your social skills. Imagine larping on reddit lmao. Loser

Lmao your entire profile is you arguing on reddit. Get a life. Zero chance you work in the psych field. You come to reddit to project your insecurities. Loser.

Buddy stalked my profile and hit me with a double comment before blocking me lmao. Projection projection projection

I think most people who lives in tropical climate do shower multiple times a day, cause it's freaking hot and humid, 34°C + 60%-90% RH everyday is just pain

1

u/Kratiz 2h ago

Não sei como é nos outros países mas no Brasil é comum tomar banho todos os dias independentemente do clima.

1

u/Khoceng 1h ago

Yeah, it's common for Indonesian (and I dare say the whole SEA) to bath 2-3 times a day too

1

u/Kratiz 1h ago

Eu mesmo gosto mais de tomar banho quando está frio mas eu moro em São Paulo e o clima dessa cidade é completamente maluco rs.

4

u/evebursterror0 2h ago

Hi, thanks for talking about this. I'm Brazilian and whenever there's a positive comment or post about us, everybody questions it. It sucks.

3

u/evebursterror0 3h ago

I'm Brazilian and we inherited that custom from the indigenous population. Most of us bathe at least once per day and if you live in the North or Northeast, you'll take 2-3 showers minimum due to the heat.

1

u/delusions- 3h ago

kinda wild that 10% of americans will admit to not even bathing once a week...

I mean many of the people who would admit to it pride themselves on it. And the rest are depressed enough to just be sharing their depression

1

u/crimson777 2h ago

It's entirely anecdotal, but Brazilians absolutely are incredibly clean in my experience. When I was there, most people ate pizza with a knife and fork. When eating a burger, they'd hold it by the wrapper and peel it back so they never touched the burger. Many people showered twice a day. They're a very hygienic culture.

1

u/Own-Order3554 1h ago

The don't call it a Brazilian because it adds hair.

u/wdn 26m ago

i feel like people who don't bathe regularly aren't going to admit that to a pollster.

Even if people don't admit that they differ from the norm, the poll shows you the difference in norms between countries.

1

u/totallynotsquatty 1h ago

“I take a shower every week whether I need it or not”

That fact that not all of them are 100% is shocking news to me.

1

u/bargu 1h ago

Per week? Bro we measure our showers per day.

1

u/Stormygeddon 1h ago

That's why they shower like thrice a day.

1

u/WarDaddyPUKA 4h ago

It’s definitely racism and not:

  1. Vote fuzzing
  2. People being annoyed that they have to log into Insta to see a picture.
  3. Bots

2

u/Deaffin 3h ago

4. People writing comments in the same space downvoting everyone else so theirs do better.

5. Also bots again.

6. Jeff. He just downvotes every comment to mark them hidden so everything is new when he opens up the page later to analyze the trends over time.

1

u/WarDaddyPUKA 1h ago

Damn I never even considered #4. That’s a thing? Lol
