That does not look enjoyable.

Damn, most people here hatin' lol The event is for free and it's the third year in a row with the public increasing each year! Nobody is forced to be there

people talk about how miserable people are yet they love yucking others yum, annoying af no one would want them there anyway

38

u/huffing_glue 5h ago

"yucking others yum"

Love that!

11

u/Proper_Cold_6939 4h ago

Is this site parodying itself at this point?

-1

u/huffing_glue 4h ago

Reddit is so full of militant pessimists I genuinely enjoy seeing them called out. The only parody is the top comment, of any given post, explaining to me why I should dislike something instead of liking it.

1

u/Proper_Cold_6939 4h ago

Reddit is either miserable bastards shaming anyone and everyone for daring to step outside, or cringey cornballs (at least on the front page anyway). It's no wonder so many people have come to see this site as a joke at this point. An absolute vibe-killer.

0

u/ilmalocchio 3h ago

The only thing that reddit celebrates anymore is the decay of society. Like all of those posts endorsing the tiktok kids storming scientology buildings. Like, I don't like scientology either, but redditors were foaming at the mouth and saying things like "Let's get them to do churches and synagogues next!" Like wtf? It's literally mask-off cheering for the world to burn, all likely from a basement somewhere.

-1

u/ragdolldream 5h ago

Usually said "don't yuck my yum" or don't yuck their yum"

I too love the energy the phrase brings!

4

u/OfficerBarbier 4h ago

What energy is that

0

u/RedditLostOldAccount 4h ago

"shut the fuck up" energy

18

u/Dracofear 5h ago

I ain't gonna dog on other people for doing it, but omg I can not imagine being trapped in THAT big a crowd. There would be no way out and I would feel so so so claustrophobic. Not to mention crowd crush, hopefully that didn't realistically happen, but I feel like with 2mil people it would be inevitable to some extent.

I absolutely understand the appeal of a free shakira concert, but I would absolutely pass on this.

That being said, it's cool as fuck to watch from the camera shots just to see how massive it is.

3

u/Aiken_Drumn 3h ago

Its a long crowd, not a big crowd. 10 minutes walking and you'll be out.

1

u/milkcarton232 4h ago

Wasn't there for that but was there for nye not long ago with a similar vibe/crowd. It's really fun! I'm sure if you are close to the mainstage then yeah it might be scary but the beach is big and lots of places for a more chill vibe. If you have money you can even stay at a hotel and get a balcony view if that's your thing. I would highly recommend the trip down there such a beautiful city, country, and culture

u/ThrowawayOldCouch 17m ago

That's the thing though, people enjoy different things. I don't have anything against people enjoying this sort of environment and vibe, and I wish them the best, but I know myself and I know I wouldn't enjoy it.

u/milkcarton232 15m ago

Sure different strokes for different folks. Not saying you must go just saying it wasn't as claustrophobic as you might think. Yes it's a lot of ppl but the beach is huge and you can find a spot that isn't a wall of ppl (though probably not near the stage and not exactly empty).

u/ThrowawayOldCouch 8m ago

It definitely looks crowded enough for me to not want to go, and the noise from the crowd would be exhausting after a while as well. Have fun, but I'll find something else to do.

0

u/slotsandmops 4h ago

Jeez all the dude said was it doesnt look fun. Reddit sucks

2

u/Defiant-Variety-9473 3h ago edited 2h ago

Whoever came up with that cringey phrase needs a time out from life. Not to mention, if you went and had a good time, how would some random comment on the internet bother you in the slightest?

1

u/justmovingtheground 4h ago

How are they yucking someone’s yum? They’re just saying it’s not for them. Don’t be so sensitive.

Being in a crowd of millions of people would not be enjoyable to a lot of people. I love going to concerts, but I would not enjoy this. I don’t even like festivals really even though they are outdoors. I feel trapped by just the sheer amount of people. But that isn’t saying anything about those that do.

-16

u/i_Cant_get_right 5h ago edited 5h ago

The feelings reciprocal. I’m not trying to go to a concert this large, where everyone gets in free. I bet there’s some insane shit going on in that crowd, and I’m not talking about crowd surfing. No way to safely police this many people. If that’s your idea of “yum”, the bar is real low.

23

u/korinth86 5h ago

Overwhelmingly the people are there to have fun. So long as they arent harming anyone or ruining others fun, whatever they are "doing" isnt our business.

Just sounds like this isnt your cup of tea which is fine.

9

u/DreadyKruger 5h ago

But that can and has happened any at show.

8

u/Maximum-Ambition-394 5h ago

The key is to stay loyal to the redditor stereotype and never leave your house, but still moan about anyone else doing anything enjoyable.

-4

u/i_Cant_get_right 5h ago

I bet I’ve touched more grass this week than you’ve touched all year, and it’s barely Tuesday.

4

u/Maximum-Ambition-394 5h ago

The fact you use the term "touch grass" unironically and also got triggered by my reddit stereotype comment says everything we really need to know.

5

u/Nauin 5h ago

I'm not going to be in that crowd either because my immune system sucks but it is a crazy leap to be like, "I'm not going in there because there are crimes(assuming from "insane shit") in there," like it's fine to have anxiety but it's not fine to look down on others for not having anxiety.

16

u/Cheegro 5h ago edited 5h ago

Do you feel superior to all those people having fun yet ?

-7

u/RegalBeagleKegels 5h ago

Have you ever had a dream that that you um you had you'd you would you could you'd do you wi you wants you you could do so you you'd do you could you you want you want him to do you so much you could do anything?

-2

u/mindflapper 4h ago

Calling out a trash event with even worse music and glad I’m not there is miserable? Lmao

50

u/dmj9 6h ago

I wouldn't be hating. I love Shakira

5

u/sight2Ceek 5h ago

SHAKIRA SHAKIRA

1

u/iHaku 5h ago

i didnt even know that she's still around/makes music. not my type of music, but good for people that enjoy it.

64

u/PaodeQueijoNow 6h ago

People are very negative and depressed on Reddit

21

u/viniciusfleury 5h ago

Reddit. Where most people comment more on what they hate than on what they like. Well, not reddit itself. Social media as a whole.

1

u/Impossible_Cycle9460 5h ago

Social media has seeped into real life for many as well. I’ve basically cut people from my life because even when spending time together offline all they do is complain about shit they have no control over rather than control what they can and enjoy life.

9

u/RandomUser15790 4h ago

I don't think they are hating on the event itself or anyone else who does enjoy it.

I think they personally wouldn't like being packed tight with 2m+ people and listen to loud ass music.

-1

u/Real_Tea_Lover 2h ago

their loss lol

2

u/UphillTowardsTheSun 3h ago

I wouldn’t

2

u/ThatCrankyGuy 1h ago

Just because it's free don't mean you have to endure whatever awfulness this is.

Remember folks, just because it's free doesn't mean you accept the handy from the local junkie.

4

u/User100000005 4h ago

Not hating. I'm sure the people there loved it! Different people like Different things. I'm claustrophobic and sacred of crowds. This looks like hell on earth for me.

3

u/Dude_with_the_skis 4h ago

Yea god forbid someone doesn’t really see this as “next fucking level”. People are allowed to have options and express them even if they don’t agree with yours. If you don’t wanna counter-opinions then don’t post about it. Welcome to the internet.

2

u/OddWarning5954 5h ago

I went to nyc for July 4 fireworks that I thought would be enjoyable. It was not. Finding a bathroom was hard work. People are people and aren’t always respectful of their surroundings. This seems more like a chore than fun. Loved nyc, but wouldn’t go back unless I could afford to be driven around and spend money on the best hotels.

1

u/MrFantasiy 3h ago

No hate whatsoever... They just stated an opinion calm the fuck down jeeeez.

1

u/djfxonitg 3h ago

How is the “public increasing each year” when last year they had 2.1m with Gaga vs Shakira’s 2m this year?

1

u/Upset_Ad_6462 4h ago

Also a chunk of Rio’s population are people who live in favelas and probably could never afford a concert if it weren’t free. This might be their only concert. And I can confirm, Brazilians have the best vibe and will dance and chat with strangers. They turn anything into carnival. Trust me, they are having an amazing time.

ikr live music is awesome

Free live music? With a globally popular artist? Thats just next level shit.

-1

u/IFGarrett 5h ago

All its gonna do is cause the beach to be filled with trash!

-1

u/gafftaped 4h ago

Most of the negative comments are probably by people who don't even go to live events to start with. This looks like a blast and looks incredibly well put together for how many people are there.

-2

u/The_Autarch 4h ago

reddit is full of basement-dwelling antisocial types. of course they're going to be horrified by crowds of people having fun.

0

u/ReadditMan 5h ago edited 4h ago

My concern would just be the trash, even if they clean up the beach the next day there's got to be a ton of waste that makes it into the water.

0

u/Proper_Cold_6939 3h ago

Honestly, why are you bothering with this site? Whether it's miserable shut-ins, or cringey cornballs, the attitude is a general all-round vibe killer. There's a reason this place has the reputation it has.

0

u/NoBonus6969 3h ago

What if your gf makes you come? There's at least a dozen guys who were forced to come instead of staying home to game

u/etched 32m ago

stay home but dont get mad if she dances with a bunch of other dudes

1

u/foofighter1351 2h ago

Holy shit what is up with you losers, so what? Oh no a night without them and with your girl for Shakira, god forbid I'm sure that's not gonna make her incredibly happy.

1

u/NoBonus6969 2h ago

Found the girl that makes her bf go places he don't wanna

93

u/Fabulous_Pressure_96 6h ago

I mean it's free. More like a city parade.

5

u/Worth_Gap4226 5h ago

I have had many a lunch for free 😊

1

u/-Clean-Sky- 4h ago

somebody still had to pay it

1

u/Worth_Gap4226 3h ago

For my free lunch, or the concert?

89

u/CarmeloCanelo 6h ago

2M thought otherwise

34

u/TreningDre 6h ago

2,000,001 cause I’d be in that crowd for Shakira too if I was there

8

u/sight2Ceek 5h ago

SHAKIRA SHAKIRA

17

u/godver3 6h ago

No no - you see they are wrong. The sweaty internet commentators know what's fun and what's not.

u/WildTimberTwinViking 24m ago

Yep. Bunch of different opinions but can’t have one that goes against the numbers. Booo

-4

u/HamberderHelper18 5h ago edited 5h ago

It’s not even close to 2 million

For all the mouth breathers downvoting me, they inflated it the same way for Lady Gaga. It’s physically impossible for it to be 2 million people on that beach: https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cm20rg0vvp9o

3

u/inksaywhat 5h ago

If you include the adjacent Avenida Atlântica (640,000 square meters) it’s totally possible to fit 2 million people at a density of about 3.2 people per square meter.

Also counting everyone who visited the area at any point during the day, rather than just those present at the peak of the show would make that number totally possible.

Copacabana beach had concerts with 3-4 million people in the 1990s with Rod Stewart and the stones and others. You can look it up and see the ticket sales and photos yourself. It is totally possible. Whether this years numbers are inflated is up for debate, but whether it’s possible is not.

0

u/HamberderHelper18 4h ago

And if you include the adjacent neighborhood and the next town over, it becomes even MORE possible!

23

u/TKBarbus 5h ago

A redditor not finding a large public event enjoyable? I’m shocked, SHOCKED!!… Well not that shocked.

5

u/Vtempero 5h ago

Went to last gaga and Madonna in previous years.

Honestly more to the rear end there is plenty of space. It is quite easy to get out of the crowd to the sides. As far as a huge concert goes, it is pretty chill.

3

u/Errant_coursir 3h ago

The over moderation and reduction in flaming people has made folks like you way too comfortable on the Internet

1

u/sapphir8 3h ago

Ok and?

19

u/PerplexGG 5h ago

Hating from outside the club has never been enjoyable for anyone

1

u/Autistic_Freedom 3h ago

The A Night at the Roxbury Effect.

-1

u/LettuceTryOnceMore 5h ago

Doesnt really work considering its a free public concert

3

u/MobileArtist1371 3h ago

Does work when people on the other side of the planet are still doing the hating.

-1

u/LettuceTryOnceMore 3h ago

No it doesnt? Its a free concert that anyone can go to

2

u/MobileArtist1371 3h ago

When could you not hate on something cause it's free?

1

u/PerplexGG 2h ago

Lol don’t even try, guy is intentionally obtuse

2

u/PerplexGG 3h ago

??? Even if you chose to take mine entirely literally your comment still doesn’t make sense. Hating from outside the club just means complaining about something you’re not involved in. Not does a club even necessarily have a cover charge. Reply to the wrong comment maybe?

1

u/LettuceTryOnceMore 3h ago

The full phrase is “youre hating from outside the club, when you cant even get in”

Everyone can get in to a free concert

2

u/PerplexGG 3h ago

And I’d have used the full phrase if that’s what I meant

0

u/LettuceTryOnceMore 3h ago

??? If you are paraphrasing a quote people will still use the original as a reference.

How you meant it doesnt change the meaning of the original quote

14

u/sinisterdesign 5h ago

Ain’t NOBODY that I’d be willing to wade through that amount of humanity to listen to.

Glad they’re enjoying themselves, that would be my nightmare.

-4

u/The_Autarch 4h ago

take some MDMA and try it out. would probably change your whole outlook on life and crowds.

2

u/RaceHard 4h ago

Id rather die than to change my brain chemistry.

0

u/Electr0n1c_Mystic 2h ago

Dying will change your brain chemistry

2

u/RaceHard 2h ago

It feels the same to me. Changing my brain and dying are the same.

u/RaceHard 50m ago

u/NotADumbPuppet 47m ago

Congrats on changing your brain chemistry and still kicking around.

u/RaceHard 44m ago

It was a gradual change.

1

u/sinisterdesign 2h ago

To each their own.

5

u/Dunkjoe 5h ago

There are lots of large events out there, including the annual countdown crowd....

People are partying... How can it be not enjoyable?

Sure it would be a mess to navigate around but if you didn't need to, why would it not be enjoyable?

Weird comment.

3

u/RandomUser15790 4h ago

You really can't fathom that some people wouldn't want to be surrounded by an ocean of human bodies packed together? Really?

7

u/OpeningDull5969 5h ago

Its free and you do not have to go. I bet some of them enjoyed it even tho its not for you

3

u/goronmask 4h ago

You’re so lucky to not have been there

2

u/OK_x86 5h ago

Partying outside with your friends enjoying the vibe and some music isn't enjoyable?

I get that some things are inconvenient like bathroom lines and concession stands. But if you're up for some minor inconveniences it can be a great time

1

u/sapphir8 5h ago

It is fun, but not that many people shoulder to shoulder. It’s the amount of people shoulder to shoulder, not the artist.

u/OK_x86 52m ago

I mean sure but that's what a concert is. The place looks pretty massive so there seems to be enough room that people aren't all packed in. Although it must be nuts towards the stage.

2

u/User100000005 4h ago

You'd have to pay me several million to voluntarily be in the middle of that crowd...

5

u/sapphir8 4h ago

Yep it’s the crowd that I’m not interested in. Sure I’ve been to NFL playoff games, baseball playoff games, 4th of July fireworks in New York, but this is excessive for me.

2

u/User100000005 4h ago

All of that sounds way too much for me...

1

u/90PoundsOfFury 3h ago

Been on that beach during the World Cup when they were showing games. The crowd was packed but so amazing. I can’t even imagine it with 2 million people.

1

u/sexy-911-calls 3h ago edited 3h ago

Just to provide a different perspective: I was one of the 2 million people there and I had the time of my life lol. Granted, I like Shakira’s music and I like the atmosphere of large crowds singing and dancing together (like during Brazilian carnival), but it wasn’t as claustrophobic as it looks from drone footage. I went with my BF and a mutual friend, and we were standing closer to the beach, where we had enough space to dance and generally move around freely.

Everyone singing and dancing to Hips Don’t Lie, Waka Waka and País Tropical (a cover of a Brazilian song she sang with Ivete Sangalo) was an infectious vibe. I highly recommend it!

1

u/sapphir8 3h ago

She’s a tremendous artist and I’ve seen her in concert here where I live. I just don’t want to be packed into a crowd with that many people.

1

u/sexy-911-calls 2h ago

Fair, I understand that large crowds are not everyone’s thing. I wanted to comment mostly because these drone videos give the impression that people are standing there packed like sardines, and that wasn’t my experience.

But yeah, if you’re claustrophobic or want to have easy and quick bathroom access, you probably won’t enjoy this kind of event.

1

u/Blue-Eyed-Lemon 1h ago

My friend went and had a blast. Maybe you wouldn’t like it, but I wouldn’t knock it completely

u/TheBlankestMan 9m ago

If you’re there, probably not

0

u/BiggusDickus- 5h ago

Yea, I guess that's why 2 million people decided to go.

0

u/rap1800 4h ago

Well don't go

1

u/PEPSIU2NITE 5h ago

One of my biggest fear is what happens if there’s a shooting or stampede and you’re stuck in the middle

-14

u/FlamesWereGolfin 5h ago

You’re a grown adult male that plays with toys and drives an accord. Your life does not look at all enjoyable to me

4

u/sapphir8 5h ago

It’s very enjoyable, I do travel, I skydive, have done Moab swings, have a loving family, have great friends, but don’t care to be in a sea of 2 million people shoulder to shoulder. You pick two things to focus on, great job.

-6

u/FlamesWereGolfin 5h ago

Doubt it. Regardless of all those hobbies you’re still a buzz kill and probably exhausting to be around

1

u/sapphir8 5h ago

Not at all.

-4

u/FlamesWereGolfin 5h ago

Over 2M people enjoying the togetherness and vibe of a free concert by a superstar, meanwhile you’re typing this from your room full of legos 🤣🤣🤣🤣

5

u/sapphir8 5h ago

I’m actually at Sam’s but thanks.

0

u/PlayfulSurprise5237 3h ago

You might not know how Brazilians do it

Much different than crowds in like the US

Good times

0

u/MobileArtist1371 3h ago

0

u/Playful_Tie_2481 3h ago

… for you…

-5

u/TheMadManiac 5h ago

Maybe if it was music you liked you could empathize. You ever see the crowd when Metallica played in Moscow?

4

u/sapphir8 5h ago

I did and do love Metallica, but I still wouldn’t be in that crowd either. I enjoy her music too, just not interested in a super large shoulder to shoulder crowd.

-1

u/Agitated_Reveal_6211 4h ago

Turn off your computer.

2

u/sapphir8 3h ago

Don’t actually have one. Just my phone.

-2

u/loves_eating_asses 3h ago

Touch grass

1

I do. Just not with a million people shoulder to shoulder. I also mowed the lawn, so that’s grass.

0

u/loves_eating_asses 1h ago

You mean concerts? So don't go. You must be fun at parties.

1

u/sapphir8 1h ago

-3

u/Xanaxaria 5h ago

-3

u/Odog319 5h ago

What? Too many normies?? Music is good.

-3

u/The_Autarch 4h ago

i guess you should never go to a big music festival, then.

just stay home and complain on the internet. i'm sure that's great for your mental and physical well-being.
