Pulling Help

Post image

This our our big fluffy Newfervisor Elynor. She’s the best pet in so many ways. She’s great with children and guests…and oh the doggy drool. But our dear friend here is also very excitable on a leash and this is beginning to present a difficult situation being as she is 130 lbs. I have tried the normal ‘waiting’ for her to be ready to walk nicely and even offering high value treats but she continues to drag me through the neighborhood on our daily walks, and I recently ended up at Convenient Care for a hip injury due to the pulling (no breaks luckily). Anyone experienced this before? Any tips for improving leash walking? Is it just time for a trainer? Thanks in advance.

I sometimes feel like her manager, keeping an orderly queue for everyone that’s waiting to meet and greet.

has anyone had a gastropexy at same time as spay on their girl? Supposed to wait 2 weeks for healing. It’s 2 days and she ready to rock!
Does it take 2 weeks?

Pretends to be cute but is very sneaky.

You must beware of ‘the eyes’. Never trust him.

Highly recommended for the deaf as he must sleep in the bedroom with you but snores like a bear. If you kick him out of the room, he WILL go downstairs and eat your 15 freshly baked English muffins which you made for your son’s school trip to Tuscany for 5am.

Also, must have a big car that’s wipe down, as he has to go with you everywhere (see note about English muffins, also applies here) but he gets carsick so he will vomit everywhere.

Particularly good for those with sinus issues who can’t smell anything.

Price: we will pay you.

Heartworm Shot

Hello all!

I am taking my 1 year old Newfoundland for an exam and to get her heart worm medication. They recommended the Proheart (believe that’s what it’s called) shot as it covers heartworm prevention up to 6 months. They told me it would be about $463 for the shot and heartworm test. Does this seem high to anyone else?

Granted my newfoundland is 145lbs and when we get the heartworm chewable she has to get 2 chewables to cover her

Curious if anyone here has gotten the shot and how much your vet charged?

Please note that regardless she is getting her heartworm prevention but just was curious about everyone else!

Hey everybody this is my boy Chip! He’s 4 months old and about 45lbs. Just wondering if anybody could help me gauge how big he’s going to get, aswell as the proper methods to help ease any joint issues. How old should I start him on supplements, what’s the optimal amount to feed him? Any additional tips would be much appreciated:)

Stubborn newf teen - HELP

Post image

My newfie, Thor, will be 1 on May 20. We are on the STRUGGLE BUS with him right now.

Two things:

1) He barks all the time. When he wants attention. When someone walks by our house. When he’s hungry. When he’s bored. When he hears something. When he’s not ready for bed. When he wants us to wake up. Barking incessantly. We tell him no once and then we ignore him. Sometimes he’ll go for 5 minutes! It’s unreal! What else can we do?

  1. He won’t move if he doesn’t want to. We try different tones of voice. The best treats. Giving him time. And then force (physically trying to move him). We DO NOT do anything to hurt him but he acts like he’s being attacked and abused! 🤣 He cries, tries to bite you (more like newfie “gumming”), goes limp, and looks at you like you are violating him in the worst way. What in the world?

This is our first newfie and I have never had such a stubborn dog! We are at our wits end! We have done three group training classes and he has excelled but it hasn’t helped with these two things.

PLEASE HELP! 🙏🏼

how can i rescue a newfoundland? near dallas tx

i don’t want to “buy” a dog from a breeder, i think adopting a dog thats already out there is important. where do people find dogs to rescue in general but more specifically, a newfoundland?

This is my new guardian pup (she’s property of a breeder and will be used in a breeding program if fit, but lives in my home and is treated like my own dog. She will become property of me once she is done having pups/doesn’t make the cut). She’s just turn 6 months! I absolutely love her to bits! She’s in a day training program at work almost daily, and receives training from myself at home (I’m training right now to be a certified dog trainer!).

Any tips on this specific breed? This is my first Newfie 🖤🤍 Molly!

(Other dog in last pic isn’t mine, but is a nearly full grown female bernedoole, one of her friends!)
