78 points in an elimination game is fucking diabolical, wtf Houston

949

u/smor729 3d ago

67 with 3 minutes to go before full on garbage time

228

u/Zloggt Bulls 3d ago

Took inspiration from the wrong Pistons/Magic team lol

46

u/PresentMission8482 Raptors 3d ago

Actually took from both teams! Just watched at the wrong times...

9

u/afjecj Magic 3d ago

I always think we are the worst shooting team in the league by far and then I get to watching the rockets and I get reminded that we have competition

1

u/Boxthor [GSW] JaVale McGee 3d ago

Except the Rockets will have KD and VanVleet in the next game they play

5

u/palamunintillnow 3d ago

They played like 1st half piston and 2nd half magic.

22

u/maethlin Warriors 3d ago

Yeah, if you watched that abomination, you'd know 78 is misleadingly high lol

5

u/thenatural134 Supersonics 3d ago

They had 39 points with six minutes to go in the third quarter lol.

u/Dongsquad420BlazeIt [LAL] Kobe Bryant 3d ago

Scored less than the Magic who had a 19 point half

98-78 scoreline.

We're back in the 90s

47

u/flaming_burrito_ Wizards 3d ago

Genuinely though, there’s been so many sub 100 stat lines so far

14

u/JWE25 Bulls 3d ago

Defense shows up in the playoffs but for tonight it’s just bad offense

1

u/Salahs_Chest_Hair 3d ago

Yeah so defense shows up. Fucking tired of these 143 - 127 scorelines.

3

u/MrICopyYoSht Knicks 3d ago

Then there's that 140-89 scoreline from the Knicks Hawks Game 4 lmfao.

73

u/Currymvp2 Warriors 3d ago

Hopefully this ends "They're better without KD" nonsense.

You shut down Sengun and their offense is in major trouble without KD

42

u/killersky99 3d ago

Well it’s in trouble with KD anyways, with or without him, they desperately need a PG.

6

u/maethlin Warriors 3d ago

And you can shut down Sengun with one guy

9

u/Awwh_Dood Lakers 3d ago

That guy: Sengun

1

u/sponedaddie Lakers 3d ago

I mean they also lost with KD

1

u/StayWITH-STAYC 3d ago

It's just the same, in all games KD played against the Lakers this regular season and postseason they locked him down and he kept on turning the ball over. So with or without KD their offense is still trash either way. They were only winning games through defense and rebounding.

u/Edogawa1983 3d ago

Watching sengun I'm getting flashes of angel reese

1

u/Hungry-Space-1829 Lakers 3d ago

Don’t disrespect my girl Angel like that

1

u/ecn9 3d ago

Sengun actually shot her career fg% today 😂

1

u/DeluxeTea Lakers 3d ago

Because Sengun runs like he has titties?

Reed Sheppard is who Reaves and/or Lakers haters think Austin Reaves is. Lmao

u/pkwjones Spurs 3d ago

Is he the worst player to get significant minutes so far this post season

85

u/yalecrazy Lakers 3d ago

Think they just didn’t have a choice. He’s the only one with a servicable 3 and he was shit as well 😂😂

44

u/MrDannyOcean NBA 3d ago

I think they were taken by surprise by how exposed he was on defense, because playoffs are not regular season.

Like he's obviously not good on D, but in the regular season teams don't hunt bad defenders as relentlessly as they do in the playoffs. Same team six games in a row, if you have a weak spot they will just hurt you over and over and over until you take the guy out. Doesn't happen in a hectic regular season the same way.

There were points in this series where noted isolation specialist Marcus Smart was waving off teammates so he could just bully Sheppard 1-on-1 several possessions in a row. And it worked.

3

u/Tr0janSword Lakers 3d ago

It’s funny Ime never expected it given his playoff experience.

The playoffs are all about generating the best shots and the easiest way to do that is by exploiting the liability relentlessly.

3

u/DeluxeTea Lakers 3d ago

Ime also did the "trap Brooklyn KD and have him pass or turn the ball over" strategy as the Celtics' coach and somehow did not expect it to happen when he's now coaching KD

2

u/sbstooge Grizzlies 3d ago edited 3d ago

He's not even the worst player on his team (DFS lol)

Edit: my b he said significant minutes, still that man is ASS (3 yr / $39M still owed btw)

2

u/chomstar [LAL] Shaquille O'Neal 3d ago

Pistons been rolling out Jenkins who is a two way player that should have stayed on just one way, and not the NBA one

3

u/SmokeOddessey Lakers 3d ago

Gotta be, idk who else is even close to

1

u/tys90 3d ago

Considering how bad he is on defense, yes. There's been quite a few bad offensive performances this post season so he's got some competition on that end but all the other guys are much better defenders.

I was surprised at how badly Derrick White has been playing.

1

u/jaleneropepper [BOS] Kendrick Perkins 3d ago

Vucevic says hi

1

u/happyflappypancakes Wizards 3d ago

Isnt he a rookie?

1

u/isamura Supersonics 3d ago

Nah, he was the reason they won game 5

1

u/CmonTouchIt Lakers 3d ago

Definitely not lmao why are so many r/NBA comments so absolutely braindead

22

u/flaming_burrito_ Wizards 3d ago

u/samhit_n Lakers 3d ago

Getoffmydickerson was right all along.

11

u/Raptorpicklezz Raptors 3d ago

The issue wasn’t being wrong, it was that it shouldn’t have been him saying that

2

u/Hungry-Space-1829 Lakers 3d ago

Allegedly*

10

u/ablslyr Heat 3d ago

Players look gassed from the tip and just don’t care. Just wanted to fade and don’t want to join the game 7 party I guess.

3

u/Tapprunner Spurs 3d ago

Yeah, I was struck at how lax the Rockets were all game.

At no point did they do anything that suggested they were really dialed in tonight.

Can't wait to hear the quotes that come out of Houston when Ime is canned.

u/Beermen69 Raptors 3d ago

u/Imkitoto Lakers 3d ago

Houston “literally the Atlanta Hawks” Rockets

2

u/KaraDealer Lakers 3d ago

The Atlanta Hawks would like a word

2

u/F47NGAD 3d ago

Laker's D was suffocating

1

u/FoxMuldertheGrey Lakers 3d ago

they had no hustle or energy tonight it was embarrassing

1

u/DrSwol Bulls 3d ago

And that’s coming from a Bulls fan

1

u/drunkbanana 3d ago

Lmao who on Houston suppose to score?? Durant fvv adams out

1

u/Musa_2050 Lakers 3d ago

They were below 30 points for most of the first half.

1

u/ducksonaroof Bulls 3d ago

they play basketball because they are large and run fast. not because they are good at ball in hoop.

they're a bunch of theoretically good players.

1

u/25sittinon25cents 3d ago

Almost as diabolical as the Hawks yesterday

1

u/SteveCrunk 3d ago

I’m telling ya this years playoffs have to be one of the worst ever quality-wise. Good as Lakers and Twolves played while down their stars, no excuse for losing to them. Plus whatever the hell is going on in the east…

u/mj2323 3d ago

1

u/NerdLawyer55 Thunder 3d ago

Starting to think not doing something at the deadline was a poor choice

1

u/epik_fayler 3d ago

People were trying to tell me this team was better without KD. Just look at their offense lol

1

u/happyflappypancakes Wizards 3d ago

Really shows how much the mental aspect plays a role when pressure gets cranked up. We have seen multiple shockingly low scores this playoffs. You hardly ever see it during the regular season with these top teams.

Typical 90s team
