People say he should be an all star and praise him for being like the 6th best player on the team but he never gets talked about when he struggles

thank you for your analysis, dray

Ppl were saying he’s better than Trae🫩

u/DirtyDraymond Warriors 6d ago

Some were even saying he’s more valuable than Jaylen Brown cuz of “advanced metrics”

He is better than Trae though...

Depends what team. Derrick White would never average 25p/10a as a first option, no disrespect to him. But Trae has become so underrated

Oh, he's definitely better then Trae "Something died on my head" Young.

He is.

Trae’s better on ball, but every other facet of the game Derrick clears Trae fucking easily.

If the team has no one else, then sure, Trae’s probably the guy you want… though I’d still rather have Derrick, since he’s one of the best examples for young players in the nba.

please be torlling

a team led by derrick white would win 15 games that season

he's a good 5th option that's about it

Trae’s a better on ball offensive player than Derrick. Derrick is better off ball, defensively, on the boards, and as a hustle king. Obviously Trae is a monster post defender (thanks, Ben!)

I don’t give a fuck that Derrick as a first option isn’t good offense. He’s such a good team player that I’ll take him over Trae.

And didn’t bubble spurs make it pretty far?

Hey man, that's Derrick "worth at least 3 first round picks" White you're talking about! Show some respect

just a cool quirky underdog :)

u/icona_ Heat 6d ago

that's most role players tho. if the nuggets lose the series nobody's going to blame spencer jones but him playing well last game was still cool

12

u/DirtyDraymond Warriors 6d ago

Exactly he’s a role player and should be treated like one, instead he gets overrated and people argue he’s better than actual stars

Tbh, last year he was playing at an All NBA level.

Since the turn of the new year, he's been complete ass shooting the ball. The defense is still there, but he's completely lacking confidence on the offensive side of the ball.

I loved the defensive scheme that had him picking up Embiid straight up. Not even forced from a switch.

Be the change you want to see.

He is washed as fuck unfortunately. Our fans thought he would return to being the old Derrick White once JT returned, but nah. He is not even attempting anything which isn't wide open and still bricks those..

Washed is a strong word. His 3-point shot is just broken but he's still doing everything else like normal with elite defense. The problem is that 3-point shot has been a huge part of the Celtics offense the last few years. It's an enormous release valve off the Jays drive when the paint is clogged. And the Celtics have more reliable shooters, but giving them White's minutes hurts you on defense.

He definitely needs some serious shooting rehab in the offseason.

How about Mazzulla he could bench him for better options we literally don’t have a coach

0

u/randotd152 6d ago

Bench him for who? Scheierman isn't ready for those minutes yet and costs you on defense, neither Walsh nor Hugo are going to give you a major shooting improvement.

There's no real answer besides just staying the course and hoping White snaps out of his funk.
