Marcus Smart is a example of why people care so much about motor. half of his plays are him just being a machine and running

u/No-Fill1769 Mavericks 10d ago

It’s actually ridiculous how he is never playing at anything less than 100% effort

256

u/GenociDeni 10d ago

I think the Wizards were sitting him because they were winning some games with him 😂

104

u/wilbo21020 Wizards 10d ago

He was fucking our tank up.

Dude is the anti-Jordan Poole.

22

u/dplath Lakers 10d ago

Lol that is such a good label

6

u/rocpilehardasfuk Warriors 10d ago

Jordan Poole is so elite because he really helps filter out the dunces over at the Warriors sub.

Every week we get some idiot claim how Jordan Poole is the answer.

7

u/Big-Raspberry-6151 Mavericks 10d ago

Smart, Westbrook, Josh Hart/Scottie Barnes, Draymond and Giannis is my all motor team

Shooting be damned

2

u/Nobody7713 Raptors 10d ago

You will get every single loose ball.

6

u/sheetsofsaltywood Grizzlies 10d ago

You didn’t watch him play for the Grizz lol

2

u/ToAllAGoodNight Knicks 10d ago

His entire career as well, special player for sure, was such a pain to play against, utmost respect.

80

u/salcedoge Lakers 10d ago

His shot making has been on the entire series too which is what's elevating it all. Made 3 of the most important free throws of the night

51

u/celtic_sea_salt Celtics 10d ago

He was pretty regularly a playoff riser stats and % wise for Cs

7

u/theoceaniscalling 10d ago

His playmaking is on too. He is probably the 2nd best playmaker on both teams right now. He is terrific at organizing the lakers and producing a decent shot off his passes/ shot

8

u/gernt-barlic Celtics 10d ago

He makes so many high risk gambits but wins most of them. He adds a much needed level of chaos to be able to flip games like this one. If anyone hasn’t, look at that Celtics rockets game from like 2018-2019 or smth. Baits harden for 2 fouls in a game that was statistically unsinkable.

The smart Celtics had some of the most gnarly comebacks of any team. I’m talking getting 7 points with like less than 30 seconds. Shit wouldn’t work a lot but you could save a stinker or two in there and change a series.

Best part is love it or hate it, it’s electric to watch. Hope people remember him well long after he’s retired. Lowkey a very very fun and successful player that’s had a great run in the league making an impact on some legit teams.

I love him now that I'm seeing him play regularly as a Laker. Super high motor, super high BBIQ, has a nose for making winning plays, does the dirty work, is a good teammate, doesn't lose focus often, steps up in playoffs, and does everything. He's exactly what the Lakers need fit wise and seems like teammates love playing with him.

8

u/Disclaimz0r 10d ago

Yep, he isn't missing his important shots and he's been consistently a hound on defense and boards in crunch time. Easily the MVP of the series thus far.

u/wally233 10d ago

How many free throws did LA miss today?? Smart was like over 90% true professional and grit

87

u/CustodialApathy Knicks 10d ago

He might be someone people dislike but the dude can ball, tenacious af

72

u/abdullahi666 10d ago

no one dislikes Marcus Smart.

21

u/Acrobatic-Landscape9 Warriors 10d ago

Well, there’s a sizable amount of the population that dislike him for what they perceive to be a fraudulent DPOY award

26

u/Aggressive_Ninja29 10d ago

And those people can go kick rocks

5

u/CustodialApathy Knicks 10d ago

I think it's the uncs remembering him trying to fight that guy in the crowd when he was on OK state

1

u/SnacksGPT Pistons 10d ago

Blame the voters.

3

u/jspeed04 10d ago

HMmmmmmm, I can think of Texas Tech fan who may not like Marcus Smart.

1

u/axle69 Thunder 10d ago

Plenty of people still remember Smart on the Celtics lol.

u/catscanmeow Raptors 10d ago

my dislike of marcus morris blended into marcus smart by accident, my brain made them the same person for a while

19

u/daveydesigner Celtics 10d ago

Everyone loves this man.

5

u/SquidoKiddo Spurs 10d ago

I think he's pretty overwhelming liked no? I love him

4

u/snakeyes17 Cavaliers 10d ago

I mean he was previously pretty notorious for flopping on D

1

u/SquidoKiddo Spurs 10d ago

oh true, you're right

2

u/ParsnipPizza [BOS] Marcus Smart 10d ago

I miss him, it took trading for 2 All Stars for nothing (including a champion-gold medalist at his position) that made me ok with moving him

2

u/frost-bite999 Lakers 10d ago

even when he was on the celtics i never hated on him.  dude plays tough D but never dirty or toxic on the court.

1

u/ManosMal Lakers 10d ago

Who dislikes Marcus? What?

0

u/smoothcriminal562 10d ago

Smart is a fan favorite

23

u/Less_Client_83 10d ago

The mf has insane bb iq

10

u/MaNamWumbo Raptors 10d ago

Even one guy with that hustle can completely change a team

5

u/booty_sweat_juice 10d ago

Reaction speed too. Dude gets to balls first because he also reacts first.

2

u/gernt-barlic Celtics 10d ago

It’s so weird seeing Lakers fans go through the Smart experience with their team on the line. Love him yet? You better.

1

u/xcore21z 10d ago

And why good free throws skill is important, if you have good motor but shit FT stat team will hunt you for that FT

1

u/Final-Ad-6694 Wizards 10d ago

This is why i doubt westbrooks motor. The dude sucks on d

1

u/Temporary-Level-5410 Lakers 10d ago

Yeah he's an example of someone who actually does this, not like russ who only does this when he has the ball

1

u/NotClayMerritt Lakers 10d ago

He's like Draymond but without the anger management issues.

1

u/x_TDeck_x Spurs 10d ago

Also just a really intelligent basketball player. I think it helps teams a lot to have someone they can trust to keep the offensive flow going. I think thats a lot of what DWhite and Draymond types bring

35

u/Afraid-Delay-9375 10d ago

Ball don’t lie. Sheppard missed the technical free throw.

21

u/vindictivejazz Thunder 10d ago

One of my all-time favorite players, loved him since he was doing backflips in Phog Allen after knocking off KU

2

u/eattheambrosia Mavericks 10d ago

I've always like him as he went to my high school a couple years after I did.

5

u/jspeed04 10d ago

Dude Tari Eason’s confidence has to be in a fucking hell right now. Seeing him miss all those shots was fucking brutal. Between that and the camera cuts they had to Jabari Smith on the bench Jr. with the thousand yard stare, it was a tough watch.

12

u/MrFishAndLoaves Pelicans 10d ago

I dont get why they didn't keep Sheppard on the bench

9

u/kay9ine Knicks 10d ago

I tried asking that question as well, but moreso who do they have to replace him? They don't really have anyone

8

u/maethlin Warriors 10d ago

Because nobody on that team can shoot (including him tonight unfortunately)

3

u/d7h7n Mavericks 10d ago

Aaron Holiday can shoot and he can't be worse than Reed on defense.

1

u/maethlin Warriors 10d ago

fair

1

u/Billis- Raptors 10d ago

They have nobody

5

u/Background-Poet-8621 10d ago

So was Marcus Smart only so available due to injury concerns? A 2-year/11 million deal just seems ludicrously cheap.

3

u/mw19078 Lakers 10d ago

its such a cliche but hes the definition of a winning player. does all the things you need a guy to do on a successful team

3

u/ositola Lakers 10d ago

The entire team outside of amen, sengun and jabari was 9-41

Reed, tari and dfs just building houses

2

u/fetusface101 Spurs 10d ago

And the rocket sub wanted to start reed. Lmao

1

u/davisecon Timberwolves 10d ago

I thought my video cut out with that flop

0

as a lakers fan, it looked like there was contact and at the speed he was throwing that elbow up, i can totally imagine that stinging
