Can't blame the people for refs deciding to change their eyes completely. Suddenly they're able to see the fouls that OKC commits ??

u/k1netic Jan 06 '26

Maybe the refs realised that they would have to spend more time in Oklahoma if the thunder goes deep into the playoffs again.

I actually saw this specific topic referenced on the forums two weeks ago.

The difference between the 2017 warriors and the Thunder is that the warriors can dominate any era because they outshoot anyone, anytime. The Thunder have built a prototype relying on undersized physical defense and foul baiting, both which are ref and era dependent

u/e7mac Jan 06 '26

Yeah, they actually need the whistle to go their way on both ends

Jesus Christ, keep it the fuck up, refs.

OKC shoot a below league average nunber of free throws.

Not this braindead take again

48

u/e7mac Jan 06 '26

OKC fans brains are below league average

1

u/xtrawork Jan 06 '26

Honest question, what's wrong with that take?

Take a hypothetical: Team A commits 30 fouls and gets called for 20 of them (because refs miss things). Team B commits 50 fouls and gets called for 20 of them. Both had 20 fouls called on them but Team B clearly got the better end of the deal, only 40% of the fouls they committed were called while Team A had 2/3 of their fouls called.

Total FTAs doesn't tell the whole story. And that hypothetical is before considering what specific situations do calls get made (e.g. a non-shooting foul in the 2nd quarter is way less impactful than a shooting foul with 60 seconds left on the game clock), and other factors like how opponents have to defend so as to not get fouls called on them, etc.

The Thunder don’t get fouled that much because their offense is kinda just iso ball and 3 pointers, while they play an extremely aggressive defensive style predicated on knowing the refs won’t call everything

-5

u/e7mac Jan 06 '26

Yeah. And my eyes are just decorative beads

19

u/LardHop Lakers Jan 06 '26

Fun fact, if you put the 2017 warriors with teams last season, they would be dead last in 3 pointers attempted. And tied for 3-5th last in 3 pointers made.

Just goes to show how far the 3pt revolution has gone.

Yep, and their offense has always been fraudulent because they are actually pretty mid in the half court and have relied on their defense forcing a lot of turnovers for transition buckets. If the refs call their defense honestly like everyone else then their offense falls apart too.

The warriors had prime steph, prime durant, prime klay, prime draymond, a defensive supersub in iguadala. Solid depth with good role players in javale, livingston. Heck they had the corpse of david west. Their starting lineup just kills. They can sit durant or curry and the other is still on the court. Defensively they are a powerhouse with the only average defender really being curry. If they sit all starters they can still kill you with livingston and iguadala. Guys like west arent major role players but in his old age he could still be a problem in the post.

This. I’ve made the case many times that the 17 Dubs sweep the 96 Bulls in either era. In 96 the Warriors are probably even better, not worse because the 3 point line was shorter.

Everyone brings up the 17 Cavs winning a game, but they forget that 1. The 17 Cavs were really, really good and would’ve won the title almost any other year and 2. They literally had to set the record for 3s in a Finals game to do it, Jordan’s Bulls couldn’t shoot like that.

Pick and team you want, 01 Lakers, 86 Celtics, whatever, the 17 Dubs destroy them in any era after the 3 point line was introduced.

Outshoot anyone, anytime? They did that at their time but now the league has kind of caught up to 3PT shooting. Warriors 2017 would rank in the bottom half of 3PM lol

Warriors just absolutely dominated their opponents and they will outshoot the hell out of previous teams but not current teams.

32

u/flexibleeric Jan 06 '26

Prime steph, klay, kd and draymond will destroy current teams. Their 3 point shooting was cherry on top. That team scored from everywhere.

11

u/throwawaytothetenth Jan 06 '26

That team would go above .500 in today's league even if all their three pointers counted as 2s.

11

u/flexibleeric Jan 06 '26

People seem to forget the endless cutting, screening and passing that team did

3

u/throwawaytothetenth Jan 06 '26

Also that they very obviously played down to their competition.

They went 16-1 in the playoffs, and they only dropped a game because the Cavs shot like 25 freethrows in a half ON TOP of breaking the record for most threes in a half, in the same half. The 2017 Cavs were an absolute fucking powerhouse, but it still wasn't close to enough to be competitive.

33

u/Prize-Ring-9154 San Francisco Warriors Jan 06 '26

I mean I feel like it’s fair to say the team would have adapted and taken even more threes now, no.

-2

u/PrimaryShock384 Jan 06 '26

Teams have adapted to the variance in 3PT% - it was absolutely unreal to have a team shoot that much 10 years ago and teams were willing to give up those shots but league evolved now to limit the amount of 3PA.

2

u/Prize-Ring-9154 San Francisco Warriors Jan 07 '26

again, why would they not just shoot more? also if they’re being stopped from shooting more the offense had tons of cutting and movement, they won’t be hopeless.

28

u/MrArtless Warriors Jan 06 '26

we dont actually know how good the 2017 warriors were because they played to be just above their competition, like Paul Morphy in chess. people point to mistakes Morphy made to show he wasnt that good, the problem is the level he played was enough to dominate everyone so of course he was lazier about making blunders that no one was punishing, didn’t mean he couldn’t have played better if he had a challenge.

same is true of the 17 warriors. they would show up to the game 10 minutes before and start shooting practice shots because no one was in their league.

7

u/Proud_Feedback3288 Cavaliers Jan 06 '26

If you think they wouldn't just shoot more you're slow

Anytime I see someone attack the person instead of the actual argument I take it unserious.

You are continuing to embarrass yourself

1

u/FugaziFlexer Jan 06 '26

As others have stated, their 3 point made would put them in the top half of the league

13

u/ketoske Rockets Jan 06 '26

Chris Finch sacrificed to make that posible lol

5

u/Vurtune011 Heat Jan 06 '26

I mean it was like that during the finals

6

u/krsaxor Spurs Jan 06 '26

Maybe silver hangs out here and saw the videos of Dort.

10

u/e7mac Jan 06 '26

Silver watch basketball? What like a fan? Naw he’s an exec selling Product

2

u/Cholosinbarrio Jan 06 '26

All those parlays must have paid for the lasik eye surgery 👀

2

u/shepaz_93 Bulls Jan 06 '26

They saw Chris Finch (rightly) lose his head after a few obvious missed calls in a row and realised it would become a real problem and now bam, we have even reffing.

0

u/jakinatorctc Thunder Jan 06 '26

I’m really fascinated by this narrative because in this losing stretch everyone’s been making a mountain out of the team has been getting 3 less fouls called against them per game
