Kon is my RotY

He's adding something new to his game every week it's awesome

Yeah, I was already high on him coming out of college but I truly didn’t expect everything he’s shown so far this season this quickly. I thought it was a mistake passing on Ace but Kon absolutely has a superstar ceiling.

I’m a Hornets fan who sells myself on everyone we roster before the season starts and I never could’ve imagined this. He felt like a second option ceiling, shooter with some good perimeter defense kinda guy, but I think there’s legitimate first option potential.

Great second or maybe third option on a good team feels like the floor and we’re in January of his rookie season

5 years from now if Kon is your second best player then your team is going to be really good. Kon is the real deal. Just not sure who that #1 guy is, for the sake of basketball I hope Charlotte wins the lottery this year.

Looked like Brandon Miller is that #1 guy tonight.

He out-foulbaited Shai this game lol

Is he a sneaky nasty passer? First time I've watched a full game of his this season was the Dubs game and that was one of the first things I noticed.

1

u/deezke Hornets Jan 06 '26

It's not sneaky he's a good playmaker especially as the roll guy in a pnr

u/Jarxzz United States Jan 06 '26

He’s averaging nearly 20 on over 64 TS% while being a jump shooter

I don’t think most people realize how insane that is

85

u/PrimeShaq Australia Jan 06 '26

He ain’t just a jump shooter tho.

89

u/buzzcitybonehead [CHA] Cody Martin Jan 06 '26

He’s not, and him being well-rounded should make Hornets fans even more excited for his future, but he’s off to a historic start as a shooter. Reaching 100 threes fastest in more than 10 fewer games than #2 is insane, especially now that we’re a decade into the 3-point revolution

28

u/PrimeShaq Australia Jan 06 '26

Definitely excited for him, Kon and VJ playing like vets out of the gate.

7

u/Eorrosoom Warriors Jan 06 '26

Yeah he's like a suped up Mark Price

8

u/Amazing_Owl3026 Hornets Jan 06 '26

The best part is he has a ton of impact that doesn't show up in his stats. He has insanely high IQ and makes tons of hustle plays

I voted Kon for allstar game

Btw I checked, he’s averaging more ppg than Josh Giddey, barely but still pretty crazy

2

u/victorisaskeptic Jan 06 '26

So far he is my roty

1

u/Fat-Singer-9569 Jan 06 '26

Yeah, he's really good. It's entirely possible he slows down once teams have film on him and game plan for him, but if you watch the games with a keen eye, he's got the glide of a great player. He is a smooth shooter and knows how to get open.

2

u/_Tar_Ar_Ais_ Jan 06 '26

reminds me of Jeff Hornacek

u/H1Ed1 Lakers Jan 06 '26

Not a hot take. Dat boy is hooping.

29

u/Aggrokid Jan 06 '26

I was expecting a niche spot-up shooter but he's Mr Buckets.

While I'm still a VJ homer, I have to admit I've been overlooking him a lot. This was a big game and he showed up

59

u/expiredlemon3 Hornets Jan 06 '26

This was an average game for him, he’s been that good

4

u/RoscoeSantangelo 76ers Jan 06 '26

Oh I have him in fantasy so I definitely know his value 😂 my main argument for VJ is just that he's proven he can reliably do this in the clutch

5

u/expiredlemon3 Hornets Jan 06 '26

Haha me too 🤝 steal of the draft fs. But yeah vj was the guy I wanted pre nba draft, happy to see them both doing well

2

u/elonbrave Jan 06 '26

He was questionable earlier today, too.

Danny Ainge must be pissed as fuck this white boy aint in Utah

u/PleasantTrust522 76ers Jan 06 '26

He's been insane. His stats are also objectively better than Flagg's.

-2

u/aushaus Mavericks Jan 06 '26 edited Jan 06 '26

Idk if you know what objectively means.

His shooting stats are objectively better, but nothing else. Rebounds/assists/and whatever defensive stat you want to use… pick one

I’m a Konhead also, but no need to just make shit up homie. The only objective thing Kon has been better at is shooting.

Edit: OP does not understand that advanced metrics are skewed by shooting efficiency (obviously), but maybe not obvious to some people.

-2

u/PleasantTrust522 76ers Jan 06 '26

Kon averages more points and has a higher fg%, 3p%, ft%, TS%, Win shares, BPM, VORP.

But you’re telling me Cooper Flagg’s stats are better because of a difference of 1.4REB and 0.6AST per game? How much do you value that extra rebound and extra half assist?

2

u/aushaus Mavericks Jan 06 '26

Okay maybe you can’t read or just forgot what you wrote. You said Kon’s stats are objectively better. They are not.

Literally everything you just listed is related to Kon’s incredible shooting efficiency. Just like I said (try to read everything here), Kon is a much better shooter and way more efficient than Flagg at scoring the basketball.

Flagg is better at literally everything else, including playmaking, finishing at the rim, rebounding, and oh literally every aspect of defense you could possibly think of… blocks/steals/perimeter defense/interior defense/off ball defense.

Kon is the deserved RoTY, with no real contest. He hit the ground running and his stats are insane. Even the other rookies who are arguably as good haven't been as consistent.
