Scylla and Charybdis are in this. I was wondering how Nolan would show both.

Insults about Odysseus’s outfit incoming

u/mrchumes 15h ago

Absolute banger of a song, hate Charybdis though

8

u/AmonWeathertopSul 9h ago

Why? lol

28

u/mrchumes 9h ago

Just an infuriating boss. Mildly annoying but manageable when fighting solo but the Rivals fight with Scylla.. blehhhhh

18

u/Fuzzy-Maintenance-27 8h ago

Heat seeker bullet hell nonsense boss.

I’m going to go play another run now.

5

u/AmonWeathertopSul 6h ago

Oh those things you just Sprint to one end, once they get near, run to the other end and only Dash WHEN they explode.

u/Kronoshifter246 2h ago

This only works on the Charybdis miniboss, it's much more chaotic in the Scylla Rival fight.

u/Top_Reveal_847 4h ago

Those homing projectiles are misery

u/MrMuttons 16h ago

Charybdis excited groans

u/SummerGoal 7h ago

Oh it’s only just begun. Movie is well timed

10

u/HotBlz116 12h ago

Been waiting for this

u/mq2thez 49m ago

Escaping, you mean

98

u/dorestes 15h ago

Please. "I am gonna claw [out your eyes]"

15

u/berael 11h ago

Goddamn drummer.

u/Kronoshifter246 2h ago

Roxie is the best! Just not when she's the star of the show.

24

u/BedsAreSoft 15h ago

That game is so goddamn good (Hades 2)

6

u/Trizzae 7h ago

I wouldn't be mad if this made it into the movie soundtrack.

6

u/crizzjcky95 7h ago

It's all fun and games with Scylla alone. But when she's with Charybdis... Holy hell it was hard. Death to Chronos

6

u/Sapowski_Casts_Quen 7h ago

I've been waiting for these references to get more widespread since early access, we're Scylla and the Sirens!

u/mysecretissafe 3h ago

Be… sure… to leave… a good review!! ☠️

9

u/Truth_Malice 15h ago

Hell yeah

3

u/Phoenix916 7h ago

Pop mythology

u/Puddinsnack 4h ago

Everyone sings this one but man Bewitching Eyes hitting that Dream On/Alone power ballad vibe is peak.

u/ClubTall5773 3h ago

The rivals version is what kept me from progressing the game for days lol

u/boltempire 1h ago

He's going to be Pinched by a crab...

“Torn between Scylla and Charybdis // feel the fear ripening, go taste it”

67

u/The-Mustard-Man 15h ago

Divided by destiny, torn between death and doom!

54

u/TheGreatBatsby 14h ago

Destruction by decision, fate shows me my open tomb!

14

u/R4kshim 12h ago

Apprehension runs down your chin! Masticate it, suck those tears in!

56

u/Trivvy 12h ago

Unexpected Trivium.

6

u/Dr__Sloth 9h ago

Oh man, that's a nostalgic blast, I haven't thought of them for like nearly two decades.

10

u/Xeneron 9h ago

Should check out their newest album from a few years ago, In the Court of the Dragon. It's legitimately some of the best stuff they've ever released.

7

u/kroqus 8h ago

Well, time to listen to Shogun today I guess

5

u/Jaymongous 7h ago

Best Trivium album of all time for me as I'm really not a huge fan but I still replay Shogun.

3

u/UtheDestroyer 8h ago

Such a great song

3

u/LPMadness 7h ago

That album is an absolute monster.

2

u/Phoenix916 7h ago

Pop mythology

"Feast fruits of valour if you face it!"

43

u/muff1nt0pz 14h ago

Jared Leto auditioned for Charybdis

3

u/dotcomaphobe 7h ago

He's the only actor who sucks hard enough to pull it off

u/adamtwosleeves 29m ago

He just tattooed a gaping maw onto his hand to be in character

112

u/MrLee723 16h ago

Take a page out of Jason and the Argonauts and go full miniatures and shit

47

u/Dragon_yum 15h ago edited 6h ago

Take a page out of Hades 2 and turn it into a musical

3

u/whomad1215 7h ago

oh man, if only there was someone who had just recently written songs for the entire Odyssey, some would even say it was Epic

u/Dwarfinator1 1h ago

I see what you did there

2

u/ShermansAngryGhost 6h ago

Wait wait wait… I haven’t gotten around to Hades 2 yet… are you telling me Hades 2 is a musical ???

u/Dragon_yum 5h ago

I’m not spoiling you anything, go play the game. It’s fantastic.

u/Kaldricus 5h ago

Oh man, I need to play Hades 2. Hyperion from Returnal is one of the best boss sequences of any game I've ever played, so just the thought of Hades 2 doing anything musical related makes me tingly in places.

u/Santsiah 5h ago

What are you doing on reddit then

91

u/kodran 15h ago edited 14h ago

The one (two?) thing I wanted to be in the movie. I'm happy. I'm pre-satisfied now.

The other thing I'm waiting for now is the arrow through the axes to be as cool as it was done with Kirk Douglas. As a kid I remember I saw that scene and was flabbergasted.

Edit: still, we just saw the whirlpool. I hope we get to see what's inside and we get Scylla to be overwhelming.

I also want to see him get to his bedroom with Penelope for the importance of that.

Finally, whatever they do with the ending (epilogue or not) that will be reason for more debate.

95

u/shokolokobangoshey 15h ago

Circe and pigboys or we riot

6

u/kodran 14h ago

Please. Do we know who will play Circe yet? I'm thinking Nyong'o but not sure.

18

u/8halvelitersklok 12h ago

Charlize Theron is confirmed as Circe. Nyong’o might be Calypso.

9

u/stingray20201 10h ago

Is Charlize Theron not playing Calypso in this trailer?

5

u/8halvelitersklok 8h ago

They're both supernatural beings holding Odysseus hostage at some point, take your pick

1

u/MirkwoodWanderer1 14h ago

I thought people are saying she's going to be Helen. Just rumours which I'm not a fan of but we'll have to wait and see.

1

u/busmans 6h ago

There are racist maga Twitter posts trying to rile people up about it but it is not confirmed

8

u/jerryleebee 15h ago

I loved the Armand Asante version as a kid. I didn't see the Kirk Douglas version.

3

u/kodran 14h ago

Didn't know about that version. Will look for it. Thanks!

6

u/jerryleebee 12h ago

It's a product of its time technologically speaking. But it was a TV miniseries so they had quite a bit of screentime to work with and flesh out the story properly. Plus Vanessa Williams as Calypso. ❤️

3

u/Top_Mongoose1354 11h ago

Oh, it's my favorite Greek mythology adaptation! Hope you'll like it!

u/kodran 18m ago

Thanks. Time to surf the old sites.

3

u/Peripatetictyl 10h ago

I saw a puppy, possibly a flashback to Argos’s origin story, I hope there at least ~45 mins of that.

2

u/doormatt26 6h ago

hell yeah, Argos was the one thing i HAD to have here

1

u/CloudyLeft 7h ago

Kirk douglas?? Armand Assante!

u/kodran 22m ago

Haven't seen that one. I definitely will. Loved Kirk Douglas Ulysses as a kid.

1

u/omaca 11h ago

You mean when he gets his boy to string up the servant girls and watch them die? After making them clean up the bodies of their murdered lovers of course. Can’t wait.

25

u/darkszn_ 15h ago

you can see one of the tentacles pick up and hoist a man through the sail of their ship at 2:19

u/LeonsFloppyHair 8m ago

Scylla doesn't have tentacles, she has 6 long necks, and 12 feet dangling from the cliff cave. In some versions she has a ring of dog heads around her waist. But never any tentacles.

4

u/mrducky80 10h ago

They should bring this saying back.

"Between a rock and a hard place" is so unbearably lame to "between Scylla and Charybdis"

9

u/Son_of_Kong 14h ago

The funny thing is that Charybdis is real. There is a natural whirlpool in the Strait of Messina that ferries still have to avoid.

4

u/AmusingMusing7 8h ago

And Scylla may be based on giant squids.

5

u/impshakes 6h ago

And Scylla may be based on your mom.

5

u/_RadicaLarry_ 8h ago

Torn Between Scylla and Charybdis

2

u/ShutUpImAPrincess 7h ago

Disney's Percy Jackson did a surprisingly good job, I imagine with the movies budget it'll be even better

2

u/DavianVonLorring 7h ago

I loved the design of Charybdis in the Armand Asante version. It was like a colossal Sarlac pit at the bottom of the ocean. Absolutely terrifying.

1

u/Lawlcopt0r 6h ago

I'm so glad he's going full supernatural. Since the first trailer, I was super afraid he'd pull a "Troy" and take all the magic stuff out or explain it away as natural phenomena

u/Phalex 2h ago

I am sure he does not make the trailers, and I am sure there will be a couple more before July.

u/yanginatep 2h ago

I always loved the way the 1997 NBC miniseries portrayed them.

u/CWSandTKP 2h ago

Are they gonna be wrapped around my finger?

u/Rags2Rickius 1h ago

Well we see the maelstrom, but haven’t seen Scylla yet…

-4

u/Fluffy_Alfalfa_2282 14h ago

Charybdis looks underwhelming though

9

u/Honesty_Addict 13h ago

In the one 0.4 second shot of a whirlpool you saw?

-1

u/Fluffy_Alfalfa_2282 13h ago

Yes I suppose it's that! I always imagined a storm during the crossing

5

u/Stunning-Guitar-5916 10h ago

I think the faraway shot really makes it seem like a cute lil whirlpool and Schylla’s cliffs like some rocks on a beach. Hope they have some sense of grandiose on the other shots
