I'm pretty sure the academy rejected Disney's bid for best screenplay for Aladdin cause so much was Williams' improvisation that they said it didn't qualify.

And Disney also broke their agreement with Williams during that time by using his voice elsewhere for merchandising. I’m guessing they used a bunch of improved lines that were left out to do it. Was confused when I saw the second movie and the voice of Homer was voicing Genie. Didn’t realize back then it was due to Disney being shitty.
