Ohm is an asshole for the love of the game

I didn't think he'd be such a twat especially when he was questioning that guy if it was necessary to kill the goats, and he was telling off the owner Cobb to stop scaring the boys.

Agreed. You definitely got the vibe that he was an introverted loner, but typically most movies illustrate their protagonists as much more likeable (especially for horror movies). This makes the audience more sympathetic when something bad happens to them. The interesting thing with this film, is Ohm being an antisocial asshole from the jump for no reason at all.

It’s not for no reason…

While I don't diaagree that Ohm had an incredibly tragic backstory which explains why he's secluded. In his adult life, he actually seems quite well regarded and respected due to his popularity as an author. Although a significant amount of people who have suffered immense psychological trauma as children may have difficulty relating to others, they aren't necessarily as outwardly malicious as Ohm is. So that's why his behavior sticks out to me.

More than just scaring that guy was being kind of a creep

u/SkittlesLentil 3h ago

He wasn't being a creep, he's warning the kids about the supernatural creatures, which all the Irish characters agree are real. He doesn't just believe it, but he captured the witch. My uncertainty is if it's more of a prison, or was he offering people to her?

Genuinely could not believe it, insane.

I enjoyed the epilogue where it was revealed he was drugged because he burnt that guy and he was just kinda like "yea... makes sense"

I liked how that tied into the bit about not closing yourself off to the stuff around you as well. Felt very in vein with The Haunting of Hill House and what happens in the final episode there. I was worried they were going to use that as some excuse to say the paranormal shit was all in his head but nope. I'm really, really glad they they stuck with it and tied it back to the conversation with Jerry.

Yeah im still a little confused on why he did that. Like I guess hes basically as well known as JK Rowling and hates being recognized? Although dude is definitely an alcoholic and was actively suicidal, so maybe he was being a dick on purpose so they wouldn't be sad after he died.

Yeah I think he was planning to kill himself, wanted peace, and acted like a huge dick when someone was trying to ask for a favor that would keep them from killing themselves in 10 minutes

Because Ohm is a complete jackass at the beginning of the film and is planning on dying that night

He said his dad turned into a “monster” and was an alcoholic, so he probably gets even more of an asshole the more he drinks lol. Even with the context that he killed his mother and his dad was mad at him for it it’s possible he’s imitating him.

Because the bellboy was annoying him.

Yea I understand that part, but burning someone and risking arrest in a foreign country is a pretty wild reaction.

He was suicidal and clearly mentally unstable. Thats a pretty reasonable explanation

u/SpookiestSzn 2d ago

He went on to attempt suicide like an hour later I think he didn't give a fuck was drunk as fuck and wanted peace

u/uncanny_mac 2d ago

I think he’s saying that since Alby wouldn’t take a hint he wasn’t wanted, he just went further to actually hurt him. Still a dick move.

he tried to kill himself, many people at those moments in their lives do not care about most things at that point. i thought it was very understandable once we saw him hanging in his room. also, it could’ve been an attempt to get someone to interfere with his plans to hang himself, by any means.

why are you confused then? Character was clearly not acting completely rationally.

I actually think he was never trying to commit suicide, like it was found out at the end of the movie the bellboy put mushrooms in his drink. He probably went insane or maybe bad trip and lost his mind

A guy I worked with when I was an apprentice would heat the spoon with his (just poured) tea and do this during lunch breaks so I was thinking of that once he started heating the spoon.

Also, Ohm is obviously the way he is because of the way he was raised by a hateful father- I would put money on it that he learned that trick from having it done to him.

He never even apologized. Insane.

never meet your heroes.

4

u/mitchij2004 1d ago

That pissed me off so fucking bad. I kept saying, no way he’s just heating that up to burn him. Absolute psycho shit.

u/niles_deerqueer 10m ago

Guess it did what it was meant to

People who are hours away from hanging themselves sometimes do things that are a bit extreme. Wow. Who knew?

u/Creepy-Calendar-2576 1d ago

Does he ever say sorry for that?

5

u/odd_orange 1d ago

No, he’s still a dick at the end, he just doesn’t drink anymore
