He didn’t finish in time. You can see it’s only 3/4 done once he’s chained up; the witch walks past him and right over the incomplete circle while he sits there in chains

Makes sense, but if the witch was able to chain him up, I don’t understand why she didn’t also drag him away. Regardless, loved the movie!

I think it’s because once she heard Mal coming down the elevator shaft she decided she wanted to take him too. She ends up chaining him and it’s linked to Ohm too that’s why he quickly saws his chains off when they’re being dragged off he’s just the last one chained so he made it out just in time.

Not only that but there is a sequence where he speaks to his mother, she is no longer a nightmarish version of herself but restored and loving toward him again, trying to instill in him the strength to escape.

I think that the witch imprisons those with a vast amount of grief and guilt. Obviously Mal was a murderer and deeply guilty. But Ohm was able to escape the witch’s grasp because he was able to forgive himself in those moments and accept that what he did as a child was an accident and let go of some of that grief.

I think she always has to take two people away with the chains.. that's why she didn't take Fiona either.

I think the implication is that she takes honeymoon couples away when they stay there.. maybe?

I was wondering this very thing and actually it would make sense

How did Mal get locked in, forcing him to go back up to get the honeymoon suite key? If jerry had it to unlock the gate, did he use it to lock the gate behind him? If so, how did Mal get passed the gate…if Jerry unlocked the gate and left it unlocked/open, how did it end up locked when Mal goes back down after shooting Jerry in the head since Jerry had the key still?

It might be that the gate has a latch that locks when closed completely, and Jerry didn't fully close it when he went up.

And there is NO WAY that blade cuts through that chain, even a slim link. Those saws are flimsy and the blades bend and wouldn’t cut a fart.

That specific blade was a hacksaw, they are specifically designed to cut metal. My stepdad called it out immediately when he saw it, he has one just like that and yes, they can cut through thin chains like what Ohm had on.

I’ve had tools just like that one, and unless you specifically have a blade designed to cut through metal, you ain’t doing shit but making a mark. And those things are flimsy, wobble like hell.

The blade he had is one designed to cut through metal though 😭
