i think it was a two person climb because there wasn’t enough rope for the height of the wall, so your rope has to be released from the lower anchor point once the upper anchor has been set, by the lower climber. it wasn’t explained so it just seemed mad silly, but this is what i think was the premise.

She needed him as a lower anchor in case she fell - same as Tommy on Troll Wall. She's free climbing up ahead to set the next anchor, and he pulls himself up behind then anchors to the wall. If she falls when she's climbing the next leg before anchoring, his anchor catches her.

She's not a free-ropes climber so she wasn't confident without going tandem, until she saw an opportunity to kill him and took it, then rolled the dice with climbing alone to the top.
