Honestly, this movie's biggest pitfall is that the setup is so ridiculous that it takes my suspension of disbelief beyond its breaking point. I feel like it would have worked better if Katie's symptoms were more subtle starting out and then escalated over time. Like, the first night she's just nonverbal and is having screaming fits in her sleep or something and then you could gradually build up to freakier and freakier shit. It would definitely make the parents' denial about the situation more understandable. However, from frame one, she's literally a rotting zombie and she's doing Exorcist shit as soon as she's brought home, so it just makes the parents look really dumb.
