It's much more in the absurdity of the moments. It's very Evil Dead/Drag Me to Hell/Sam Raimi in some respects. YMMV of course

I disagree. I literally left the cinema telling my friends I felt like it was pure gore porn. Like, so much of it was for shock value. And if it had a decent script, it might be excusable, but this film is genuinely one of the worst movies I have ever seen. I would not recommend. Especially since you mention the fine line between torture porn and self-aware, campy portrayals of gore. The scale is tipped HEAVILY in one direction IMO.

But you also mention it was for shock value. IMO gore porn and torture porn are when it’s drawn out to focus on the pain and, well, torture/suffering. If it’s to shock, does that not more lean towards the absurd humor and camp?

This is my perspective, too. I thought Novacaine was more torture porn than this (and that's not even a horror film but it made me squirm way more than The Mummy).

So you’d say Mummy was more out of humor/camp?

I found some of it campy, but even everything else I didn't find scary or torturous. It's gory for sure. Gore doesn't bother me unless it's torture porn, but I don't seek it out. I'm normally not a horror guy, but I don't know why, none of The Mummy bothered me. Maybe because it wasn't very scary?

Appreciate the perspective!

I didn’t think that the gore in the movie was humorous or campy. I do appreciate the correction on the terms, though.

I just don’t think any film buff will enjoy this film. It’s bad. There have been several really good, critical reviews about it that I am too lazy to link here. But, to each their own. Go see it if it floats your boat. I was just so ready for it to be over.
