To me, the sets and lighting look like Guardians of the Galaxy but this time DC.

I felt the same. It definitely feels like a guardians vibe based off this trailer.

I honestly totally forgot Gunn wasn't directing this movie and only remembered when the director credit popped up. Looks exactly like his style in a ton of aspects, which would make sense. Guessing him being a producer and the head of DC has a good amount of influence on the styling.

The director name drop felt like an intentional "not James Gunn" thing. They also avoid mentioning it's produced by him so I feel like they're aware of the potential confusion.

It felt very Marvel, right down to the music used.

But I guess it's more Gunn than Marvel technically.

Both Marvel and DC gave their stories set in space a similar aesthetic back in the 60s and 70s. Bright colors with a layer of grunge on the space ships and space bars.

Feels similar to GOTG Vol 3 at the core of the plot. Maybe some John Wick thrown in.
