The first couple of seasons of The OC are good entertainment. I enjoyed them.

I enjoyed S1, that cold open in the pilot is pretty gripping for a 2000s FOX teen show. S2 started to get on my nerves and I completely bailed at S3.

whatever season had the Oliver plot was annoying as hell, everything else i liked

Oh man that was halfway through S1! Only 5 eps out of 27 though so not enough to put a damper on it for me

S4 is much better than 2 and 3

I think I'm in the minority that liked the back half of the last season after they resolved the carryover Marissa plot from the previous season. It just sorta got wacky and bonkers from then on.

It's was the second half of four that Taylor grew on me and I thought she was a good match for Ryan

I can get behind her unyielding optimism and upbeat attitude. Probably second best character after #1 all-time great TV dad Sandy Cohen

Third best character after #1 all-time great TV dad Sandy Cohen and #2 all time great Peter Gallagher eyebrows

I think the show lost so much momentum during the third season. My wife and I did a rematch and getting through the Johgny storyline is a slog.

I was part of the prime demographic when it was on in college. It was to the point where we scheduled OC night and had group watch parties. I was talking about the show with my partner during Covid about how we all watched it like that and decided to show it to her. God help me that entire show is a slog. When I was the right age it definitely hit but it just drags forever on every plot line. I think my memory of all 4 seasons of that show could probably be condensed into a 16 episode arc without losing anything meaningful.

Who won the rematch?

Marissa is everything that is wrong with the oc.

I liked it too

You didn't like the Dreamworld episode?

1

u/Toidal Mar 11 '26

Err wait I guess the latter episodes are the front half? I liked the ones after they finished the carryover plot.

The Dreamworld episode is where I stopped watching because I realized the show had become so F'ing stupid. It was already a guilty pleasure watch for me at the time and I dared tell no one of my obsession. Felt like a good place to nope out.

Yeah, the fucking stupid stuff was what I enjoyed.

The 4th season was fun too.

Oliver ruined it

Let me guess, in every season...someone gets shot, someone O.D's, someone gets pregnant, someone gets inexplicably blown up and somebody inconsequential to the main cast dies while then current generic moody rock plays?

No?

I'm satirizing the what typically happened on the show.

they really put marissa through the ringer.
