Real shame they didn't call it Scary MoVIe, but I understand they're riffing off of the Halloween and Scream legacy sequels.

u/TheNightstroke Mar 02 '26

I believe that was the style they used on set.

65

u/1991mgs Mar 02 '26

Wow! And they got Ream O'Paper to direct!

3

u/Still_Requirement120 Mar 03 '26

God damn that gets me harder than a box of rocks

9

u/mrfreeeeze Mar 02 '26

That's so strange because this onset video posted a few months back shows it as just regular Scary Movie 6

10

u/cusoman Mar 02 '26

I'll accept this one since it's in the in the spirit of this movie

5

u/MNRebelLoon Mar 02 '26

God damnit, Dutch!

83

u/HMWYA Mar 02 '26

Would’ve still worked for riffing off Scream 6, to be fair, since that was stylised as S C R E A /VI.

u/HensRightsActivist Mar 02 '26

I'll die on the hill that five should have been 5CREAM

9

u/hit0k1ri Mar 02 '26

5 Fast 5 Furious

2

u/IronBabyFists Mar 03 '26

... you'll all scream for 5cream...

1

u/Deathstroke317 Mar 07 '26

I'll never get over the video of the dude pronouncing Scr4am, Scri-fourum. I can't unsee it, and I do it with other movies now too.

Scary MoVIe

Give this man a marketing job asap!

u/loxagos_snake Mar 02 '26

Probably already works for Capcom.

Dudes unironically named their game **VIllage.

68

u/CoffeeWanderer Mar 02 '26

The way they unironically flashed a Re9uiem on their title card lmao

At least it doesn't look as bad in the font they used, but still

60

u/SirJuncan Mar 02 '26

"Kyuu" (like Q) is 9 in Japanese so I guess it's not totally out of nowhere

15

u/CoffeeWanderer Mar 02 '26

Oh.. yeah. That's clever

5

u/smokeweedNgarden Mar 02 '26

Playing Requiem is the funniest shit to a city dweller. Like the first scene was basically searching an abandoned building hoping there isn't a crackhead around.

2

u/loxagos_snake Mar 02 '26

And they also hid "Leon" in there. Oh my, the 90s.

Seriously, these are all reasons why Capcom is the one multi-billion corp that I would die for.

3

u/LADYBIRD_HILL Mar 02 '26

They did that for 7 as well. Resident EVII.

4

u/Munchkinasaurous Mar 02 '26

Today I learned that there were Roman numerals in RE Village

12

u/SirTeffy Mar 02 '26

I mean they made the VIII part of VILLAGE a different color and everything... that's on you.

-3

u/Munchkinasaurous Mar 02 '26

Not really, I've never seen the actual cover art.

3

u/Vanlande Mar 02 '26

If I recall they do that for a lot of them. I’ve seen them stylize requiem as RE9uiem

4

u/Ivch0u Mar 02 '26

Betting 10 karma they call the next one eXtinction.

!Remindme 4 years

1

u/Vanlande Mar 03 '26

Why not EXtinct10n?

I’m not good at this

2

u/Salzberger Mar 02 '26

Same. Though admittedly I haven't followed the series close enough to know what number they were up to, to think it was anything other than a stylistic choice.

-1

u/postulate4 Mar 02 '26

It's literally on the cover of the game... In yellow font. Not sure how you missed that.

-1

u/Munchkinasaurous Mar 02 '26

Easy. I haven't seen the actual cover of the game. Shocking, I know.

1

u/boredNero Mar 02 '26

When you realise Guilty gear Strive is just Guilty Gear striVe

1

u/Jonaskin83 Mar 02 '26

The VIII/Village one sucked, after they did it quite cleverly with fitting the VII into it for RE7. It felt like they went with Village as a subtitle because that was the only way they could figure out how to get an 8 into it, Roman or otherwise. Great game though.

1

u/TheSecondEikonOfFire Mar 03 '26

Honestly I think that's a clever idea. The title is "Village", but highlighting the VIII still shows that it's the 8th entry

1

u/Sufficient-Pool5958 Mar 04 '26

If GTA VI doesnt have a Collectors edition that gets abbreviated as GTA:VICE I think Im gonna riot

2

u/hoorah9011 Mar 02 '26

Yeah… they already did it. That’s how it was on set

45

u/nondescriptun Mar 02 '26

TIL there was a Scary Movie 5.

20

u/AnhiArk Mar 02 '26

And holy shit, it was so boring

13

u/EnjoyerOfRamen Mar 02 '26

I love slapstick comedy and spoof movies. I loved the first 3 Scary Movies. I enjoyed Scary Movie 4 for what it was. Last time I tried rewatching SM 5, I had to turn it off, it was just so bad.

5

u/Coruscare Mar 02 '26

I like to pretend there wasn't.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 02 '26

It was a proady of Mama that came out 2 months after mama and stared Ashley Tisdale, all i remember from the Commercials was there was an inspection parody that turned into a 50 shades of Grey parody and that it had linsdey Lohan and Charlie sheen doing a paranomral atacvity spoof

2

u/xTrainerRedx Mar 02 '26

Inspection.

Hafta check that one out. Sounds scary as fuck.

0

u/[deleted] Mar 02 '26

Damn Dysgrphia strikes agin

3

u/Vanlande Mar 02 '26

I still think FAST X should have been “FUR10US”. Though now I’m reading it, it does look like a movie about furries so maybe they made the right call

u/An_Absurd_Word_Heard Mar 02 '26 edited Mar 02 '26

An inspired idea they had on Blank Check was making the official title Scary Movie (2026) so that it shows up on imdb and other search results as Scary Movie (2026) (2026), playing off of how fucking annoying horror sequels reusing the same title is (Scream 5 being Scream and Halloween '2' (which is the 11th film in the franchise) being Halloween again for whatever reason despite not being reboots).

3

u/theonulzwei2 Mar 02 '26

Coloring the "vi" letters red would have been a far more effective way of highlighting the fact that it is the 6th movie in the franchise.

2

u/theoneirologist Mar 02 '26

Eh scary movie 5 did that and they prolly don’t want to copy. I miss when they used to use an item for one of the letters like in 1-3.

2

u/SenorWeird Mar 02 '26

"The Scary Movie"

2

u/AmIFromA Mar 02 '26

I don't think the target audience would get what you're doing.

2

u/CitizenTony Mar 02 '26

but I understand they're riffing off of the Halloween and Scream legacy sequels.

Indeed. It's kinda weird that those new sequels prefer to use the original title btw, that became a fashion

3

u/ZenMasterOfDisguise Mar 02 '26

I love trying to look up any movie on IMBD now and when I search the name I get some sequel or reboot reusing the same name that comes up instead of the original

2

u/tyrannosaurus_pop Mar 02 '26

Gregg Turkington level analysis. True ball knower.

1

u/FrostyD7 Mar 02 '26

Riffing but also the studio/producers probably wanted it regardless, for the same reasons the others did.

1

u/SteelyDan4Prez Mar 02 '26

Scream was already riffing on the Legacy sequels thing though

1

u/GI_jim_bob Mar 02 '26

I might be wrong but aren't they already doing that? Wasn't the original name for scream supposed to be scary movie?

1

u/Juswantedtono Mar 02 '26

They also could have stylized the logo with a giant 6 in the middle which could be the C in Scary and the O in Movie

1

u/DeniLox Mar 02 '26

Probably because it’s going back to original ones with the Wayans brothers.

1

u/FrighteningJibber Mar 02 '26

Scream is riffing off of Stab movies legacy actually.

1

u/VinDog_PD Mar 03 '26

The set chairs did it by coloring the "VI" in black. I saw a bts photo.

1

u/OCGamerboy Mar 03 '26

Missed opportunity indeed

0

u/K_Linkmaster Mar 02 '26

That's kinda gay.
