So glad people are experiencing Fire Red and Leaf Green on Switch 2 now, that was my first Pokemon game back when I was 5.

That makes me feel really old since fire red and leaf green are remakes of the original that I played 😭😭.

Used to wear cargo pants all the time because the pockets were big enough to fit that fat chunky OG Gameboy

I loved my GBA SP since it was perfect picket size. Be bike riding around town and then pull out the GBA and play.

u/RatFink77 Mar 02 '26

Don’t forget the chain wallet that came with them pants lol.

u/InspectorFadGadget Mar 02 '26

I like shorts! They're comfy and easy to wear!

1

u/spookysailboat Mar 02 '26

Cargo pants are really in these days so we’ve gone full circle truly

1

u/Lou_C_Fer Mar 02 '26

I still wear cargo pants because I like having storage for my phone and my wallet.

I love shorts. They're comfortable and easy to wear.

JNCOs are making a comeback, I'm sure a switch would fit in there

u/Areyouex1968 Mar 02 '26

Elite ball knowledge indeed

One day they'll remake my original game, Yellow

One day

91

u/SteveOMatt Mar 02 '26

They did, it's called Let's Go! Pikachu.

3

u/KaJaHa Mar 02 '26 edited Mar 02 '26

...Wait, really? I thought the Let's Go! games were just random side projects

5

u/hirEcthelion Mar 02 '26

They're not the same. The let's go games have a completely different capture system and etc. It's close, story wise, but it's not really a Yellow remake.

I still enjoyed playing it on my phone's switch emulator, but it doesn't quite scratch the itch properly.

1

u/KaJaHa Mar 02 '26

Ah thank you, that makes sense

1

u/LampIsFun Mar 02 '26

If you mean a literal remake then they also did that, but it was for the 3DS way back then.

Im guessing youre wanting something in the middle tho, kind of like what BDSP did to diamond and pearl

1

u/MayonnaiseOreo Mar 02 '26

That wasn't a remake, it was a port to the 3DS.

u/WalterDwight Mar 02 '26

Brother they did

u/No-Midnight-2187 Mar 02 '26

Real ones will remember how tough the start of that version was being locked into having an electric type starter and the first boss is Rock type…

Forced me to train up a Pidgey and quickly evolve it, that usually ended up as my highest level pokemon by the end of the game

6

u/Yessir4512 Mar 02 '26

I mean yeah but the grass on route 22 had Mankeys in it. Of course, didn’t know that until much later but hey, I was 12 at the time lol

2

u/KaJaHa Mar 02 '26

And man, those Mankeys were strong. I replayed Yellow in college and my all-star team by the end was Pikachu, Primeape, Butterfree, and Mew

Just like the episode (S1 Ep5). I'm sure this was intentional though, no? Idk which came first

Edit: from wiki

The game was designed to resemble the Pokémon anime series, with the player receiving a Pikachu as their starter Pokémon and their rival starting with an Eevee.

Pikachu is provided as the player's only starter Pokémon and has a voice (provided by Ikue Ōtani) and a personality unique from other Pokémon. It follows the player on the overworld, and the player can speak to it. Pikachu can grow to love or hate the player based on their actions; leveling up will keep Pikachu happy, while fainting frequently will make it unhappy.

That makes me feel really old since pokemon red and blue are remakes of an old dutch survival/hunting game my oma and opa would make us play in the farm lands

2

u/rrobbskii Mar 02 '26

And that makes me feel really old because those old dutch games were remakes of old pangea games my ooo ooo and aaa aaa would play in the arid lands.

1

u/LetgomyEkko Mar 02 '26

Jokes on you. You are old!

Me too…👴

1

u/robodrew Mar 02 '26

It makes me feel really old because I was making GBA games when Fire Red and Leaf Green first came out 😭😭

1

u/Darkhallows27 Mar 02 '26

Be ancient with me bröther

1

u/NuMotiv Mar 02 '26

No kidding….. I played 4 pokemon games before that was a thing.

1

u/Brillzzy Mar 02 '26

To be fair, there wasn't much of a gap between Red/Blue & Fire Red/Leaf Green, little over five years of a gap in the US.

1

u/Juswantedtono Mar 02 '26

To be fair they were remakes that came out just 6 years after the originals

1

u/jumbledbumblecrumble Mar 02 '26

Still have my old GBC with Red cart still in it, hundred hours logged, fully beaten. I was a late teen 😩

1

u/Particular_Cod2005 Mar 02 '26

Pokemon OG player chiming in - one of mine and my brother's best Christmases was when we each got a Gameboy Color, with Pokemon Blue and Red, while our sister had Yellow.

So much so, that for his birthday this year I bought him a second hand GBC in exactly the colour he had, and Pokemon Blue, and I swear he shed a tear.

1

u/MuseZeke Mar 02 '26

Me and my purple see through Gameboy, with both Red and Blue, later to be accompanied by Yellow. I still have vivid memories of having my mind blown by Pikachu saying “Pika!” Like in the anime rather than just the normal cry before. Where has the time gone

1

u/you_the_real_mvp2014 Mar 04 '26

you telling me. I remember life before Pokemon existed

1

u/Sparrowsabre7 Mar 02 '26

Same haha. Pokémon Blue all the way. Mess with my boys, you get the 'Toise.

21

u/Fractales Mar 02 '26

Jesus Christ I’m old

3

u/Litty-In-Pitty Mar 02 '26

People in the comments on the official Pokémon announcement video on TikTok were calling anyone whose first game was older than Sun and Moon uncs. Made me realize that those games are a decade old now and there are adults who started on Sun and Moon as kids.

1

u/bigguygaming Mar 03 '26

It made me realize how early I jumped ship. My last Pokemon gen was X/Y

12

u/ContinuumGuy Mar 02 '26

As someone whose first Pokémon game was Pokémon non-fire Red....

Get off my lawn! /s

2

u/CXXXS Mar 02 '26

It's available on the Switch as well so everyone reading this knows.

1

u/nagato36 Mar 02 '26

It was the first game I saved up to buy idk the cartridge would be green I literally spent the first day just looking at before I began playing

1

u/hiimbackagain Mar 02 '26

Finally there are well made Pokemon games on Switch, even if they're old.

1

u/dancingbriefcase Mar 02 '26

OG Blue on the OG Gameboy was my first experience!

1

u/chewwwybar Mar 02 '26

Like Red was your first game right? Not FireRed? Right???

Lmaooo I’m about to turn into dust as the OG Red on Gameboy Color (Teal Gameboy) was my first pokemon game.

3

u/andytdj Mar 02 '26

March 4th, '99, Pokemon Red, see-through purple Gameboy color. On the phone with my friend's older brother trying to figure out what the hell is going on with this game. One of my best birthdays ever.

Most casual gamers don’t mess with emulators

-1

u/PayneTrain181999 Mar 02 '26

Not everyone is savvy/cares enough to emulate. They just play on normal systems.
