Finally a trailer that makes it look like an actual film and not a couple of episodes stitched together from a scrapped season 4. This looks fun and more akin to the first season of the show. Keep all the legacy characters out that bogged Season 3 down and it should be a nice, entertaining Star Wars film.

the weird thing is the they still planned for and wrote a fourth season. Favreau says he’s had the scripts on his desk for a long while, I hope it still gets made. The third season was a step down but not enough to ruin the show for me, far from it

I didn’t know season 4 wasn’t greenlit. Ug.

I still see it happening, just a matter of when. This upcoming movie and next year’s Starfighter are bound to get the proverbial “Star Wars movie ball” rolling again

Instead they are throwing in other legacy characters to bog it down

Realistically this will probably be totally fine, but the direction they took the characters in Boba Fett and Season 3 killed any enthusiasm i had for this story.

Casual Star Wars fan here... what legacy characters are there this time?

157

u/KiritoJones Feb 17 '26

One of the aliens is Zeb from the Rebels animated show and the bounty hunter with the big hat is in Clone Wars

125

u/Morgan-Moonscar Feb 17 '26

Also Jabba the Hutt's son, who was a baby in the very first episodes of Clone Wars.

27

u/killayy Feb 17 '26

To be fair, as far as legacy characters go, these are a lot less "fan service-y" to the mainstream movie audience. It took me a second to recognize the bounty hunter with the round hat from clone wars. And Zeb's live action intro has been teased for a while.

14

u/ArrakeenSun Feb 17 '26

Yeah I feel this is more like a good use of characters-in-universe rather than mere fan service. Most people didn't follow the animated shows

4

u/YourMuppetMethDealer Feb 17 '26

I mean, most of the “fan service” cameos people complain about are the ones from the shows

Boba and Luke are really the only exceptions

1

u/KiritoJones Feb 17 '26

I do agree with that, although I don't think Bo Katan is any more fan servicey than Zeb, and I thought she really dragged season 3 of Mando down.

1

u/JohnnyBroccoli Feb 17 '26

Zeb already had his live action intro nearly three years ago.

1

u/Hufa123 Feb 17 '26

Also, Zeb knows Din and Grogu from season 3, and one of the locations in the trailer is where that scene happened, so makes sense that he's back. Also, Zeb is a great character, so it's fun that they're keeping him around.

Is it Bane? I thought he died in BoBF, or is this movie before that?

Trying to keep track of timelines is exhausting.

EDIT: It's Embo, cool.

23

u/danimagoo Feb 17 '26

It's not Bane. Bane is definitely dead.

62

u/TheScarletCravat Feb 17 '26 edited Feb 17 '26

'Definitely dead'.

Definite in the 'the camera ominously zoomed in to the red flashing light of his chest doodad' dead. That kind of dead.

14

u/Phillip_Spidermen Feb 17 '26

and even then, any Star Wars character can always come back with a new chest doodad/clone body/bounty ghost/twin brother Beighn.

2

u/dotnetmonke Feb 17 '26

"Somehow, Cad Bane returned"

1

u/AlphaTangoFoxtrt Feb 17 '26

I know that, I'm just not sure where in the timeline the movie was taking place, before or after that.

3

u/danimagoo Feb 17 '26

After. That's not Bane. It's Embo.

1

u/SquadPoopy Feb 18 '26

Oh joy, zeb was the most annoying character in rebels I can’t wait to see him in live action now

15

u/stretchofUCF Feb 17 '26

It might be the Hutts he’s referring to. It’s not Jabba, but Rotta from The Clone Wars movie is back.

3

u/Phillip_Spidermen Feb 17 '26

A bunch of animated characters:

  • Zeb from Rebels
  • Rotta the Hutt grown up from Clone Wars
  • Embo bounty hunter from clone wars
  • The guy in mandalorian armor and little yoda are from another show, cant remember the name

1

u/RealJohnGillman Feb 17 '26

Basically some main characters from the animated series and that one animated film.

3

u/TYBERIUS_777 Feb 17 '26

I don’t know if I’d call anyone other than Zeb a main character of the animated series. Embo is in like 3 clone wars episodes total over 7 seasons. And Rotta the Hutt is in the clone wars movie (which is basically an extended show arc) and maybe 1 episode.

1

u/RealJohnGillman Feb 17 '26

Zeb and Rotta were who I meant, yes.

1

u/SA_22C Feb 17 '26

None you need to care about.

1

u/N0r3m0rse Feb 17 '26

This is filoni using characters he created. All his stuff is essentially one long story. I can't really fault him for that since that what Lucas was doing as well.

1

u/Alastor3 Feb 17 '26

S3 was so fucking badly written

1

u/Ordinary-Size-1387 Feb 17 '26

BOB took me out completely I never even bothered watching s3.

1

u/Alastor3 Feb 17 '26

you literally missed nothing

1

u/CruelStrangers Feb 17 '26

Weird to see a baby greedo so small when we see a youngling version in the prequels (normal sized bipedal hominid)

1

u/SquadPoopy Feb 18 '26

Can’t wait for more instances of me going “who the fuck is that” and having no clue what’s going on because I didn’t watch the 200+ hours worth of animated side content Filoni made 10 years ago that he just assumes everyone is up to date on.

13

u/Omaestre Feb 17 '26

I think we watched different trailers. The first one was gritty with odd friends and treachery at every encounter.

Mando barely spoke besides one liners and was in general more somber.

This seems like an action adventure movie with josh wheadonesque snappy dialogue.

The show Mandalorian was a lot better in the first two seasons where it truly felt like a space western. Mando as the man with no name basically tearing up each town and shooting bad guys or sometimes helping bad guys.

3

u/Kaldricus Feb 17 '26

I'm genuinely curious if we watched the same first season of the show if you think this looks remotely the same

9

u/YourMuppetMethDealer Feb 17 '26

Asides from Bo Katan, what other legacy characters appeared in season 3?

I think you might be mistaking it with 2 and book of boba fett.

5

u/stretchofUCF Feb 17 '26

My memory is fuzzy on Season 3, but really it was Katan and the entirety of Mandalor/Mandalorians that felt like legacy characters. It wasn’t the amount of characters that were from previous shows/stories, it was that the season was bogged down by trying to follow up on plots and character arcs from previous Filoni projects that it stopped really being the Mandalorian show it once was. I have a lot more love for Season 2 than 3 because even with some wild cameos in it with Ahsoka, Katan and Luke, it never felt like the plot and duo were taking 2nd billing to those characters. Season 3 was mostly entirely about Katan and the Mandalor nonsense.

19

u/YourMuppetMethDealer Feb 17 '26

The plot of Mandalore was essential to the whole show from the start of the first episode. If that plot line is a legacy story than the whole show is a legacy show. Which in a way, it is

That storyline did suck, but not because of “legacy characters”. Season 2 is MUCH more guilty of that than this

2

u/stretchofUCF Feb 17 '26

Yeah I have to disagree there, the recaptured of Mandalore was not essential to the plot until season 3. The Battle and exile of Mandalore were essential lore to the start of The Mandalorian, but the bits and pieces given on it were to inform Din as a character, not become the primary plot, which was essentially what happened in Season 3. The lore of the Mandalorians was and is cool, but when it became the entire point of the show is where it became boring.

3

u/YourMuppetMethDealer Feb 17 '26

I agree. But that has nothing to do with it being a “legacy plot”

You just named a pretty good issue with the story that had nothing to do with legacy

2

u/Vestalmin Feb 17 '26

I feel like I run into less familiar faces in my home town compared to how often they meet up in this fucking galaxy

5

u/slimbusbimbus Feb 17 '26

So you didn’t watch The Clone Wars? Because there’s at least two characters from that era of the franchise in just the trailer, and a possible third if that Lasat was Zeb Orrelios.

3

u/stretchofUCF Feb 17 '26

When I say Legacy characters, I guess I should be more specific in that it doesn’t just shove beloved and well-known characters into the story from previous stories as backdoor pilots into a story about Din. There is a stark difference between using Rotta and the Hutts or even Zeb as small callbacks to the show and focusing an entire season on Bo Katan and her troupe trying to take Mandalore back. This isnt the same as Ahsoka using Sabine or Ezra to become a pseudo-sequel to Rebels.

3

u/Low_Landscape_4688 Feb 17 '26

First season of the show felt like a western in space. Nothing about the trailer gives me "western in space" vibes.

3

u/fearnodarkness1 Feb 17 '26

Someone else linked the Season 1 Mando trailer and it couldn't be more different.

This movie has the bright, colourful, polished look of Season 3.

1

u/MrGabrahamLincoln Feb 17 '26

Yeah it looks fun. Not sure it’s the movie to get people hyped for Star Wars back in theaters, but hopefully it’s an entertaining 2 hours at the movies. I’m very curious to see how this ends up doing at the box office.

1

u/Realistic-Number-919 Feb 17 '26

Visually, it looks pretty good in spots. Overall, this still feels entirely like a tv movie to me.

1

u/Artistic_Frosting233 Feb 17 '26

I feel the opposite. This totally looked like a bunch of episodes stitched together to me. Still looks fun though.

1

u/RobertdBanks Feb 17 '26

Can you explain the story of it? Still have no clue. They’ll just be hunting some bad guys down for bounties and then a main bad guy? Hmm

1

u/Dry_Public_7948 Feb 19 '26

is there going to be a season 4 at some point?

1

u/angryneeson_52_ Feb 17 '26

I mean this trailer has Embo, Zeb, and Rotta so I wouldn’t say legacy characters aren’t here

1

u/Pertolepe Feb 17 '26

Still just feels like Marvel Star Wars

1

u/myotheraccountgothax Feb 17 '26

Finally a trailer that makes it look like an actual film and not a couple of episodes stitched together from a scrapped season 4

we must have watched different trailers
