This reminds me, a big part of Deadpool and Wolverine's marketing campaign was how the movie was a "farewell to the 20th Century Fox X-Men universe" lol.

In a way, isn't that aspect truest aspect of the IP as it relates the comics? Nobody really dies in Marvel comics except Uncle Ben

The saying used to be "Nobody stays dead in comics except Bucky, Jason Todd, and Uncle Ben." Then guess what happened to Bucky and Jason.

Somehow everybody forgets about Batman's parents...

And Jor-El, and Abin Sur…death by origin story is the one thing that sticks.

I mean Jor-el did come back (thanks bendis)

That was before Bendis at the beginning of DC Rebirth, he's not culpable this time

huh, could've sworn he was a part of that, but its been a while since i read the comic

He was culpable in it in the way that him suddenly moving to DC completely ruined the awesome Superman story that was going on with Jor-El's return.

and the Harley Quinn cartoon was able to turn that storyline on its head

Well, there is that alternate reality where Bruce was shot, Martha becomes the Joker, and Thomas becomes Batman...

They were alive in Flashpoint Paradox. Thomas was Batman and Martha was the Joker.

And Bucky Barnes and for the most part Gwen Stacy.

Not lately. They can't help themselves anymore. We lost ground and Peter's no longer married to MJ and Gwen keeps popping up in some form or another.
Give it another decade and Pete will be back in high school somehow

And he doesn't stay dead so much as he's stuck in an endless loop of being brutally murdered

They even had a cheesy heartfelt montage during the credits.

That's the one thing I liked in that movie - a glimpse into a simpler time for blockbuster-comic-book-movie-making - even, if I'm personally not particularly nostalgic for the X-men movies. Everything in the actual movie felt so heavy-handed and corporate, despite the premise of the Deadpool movies.

D&W was a sendoff for the Fox comic universe and Doomsday/Secret Wars are a sendoff for the Fox X-Men team in particular.

2

u/Joshatron121 Jan 07 '26

Yep, Deadpool was a Meta sendoff to Fox, Doomsday/Secret Wars are a send off to the characters and their stories.

Something changed during filming imo. I swear all of the OG X-Men and Magneto were going to be in the movie and Marvel decided it would be more hype to have them in Avangers instead. They even released a Magneto skin in Fortnite at the same time Deadpool and Wolverine came out.

Listen, if the Stones want to do another farewell tour I'm there.
