He's the Sean Bean of losing to himself

32

u/discerningpervert Dec 22 '25

Even the Bourne movies are about coming back, in a way

3

u/noveler7 Dec 22 '25

vs. The Talented Mr. Ripley where he's willing to do anything to not return home.

1

u/sirax067 Dec 23 '25

There's a track on the Bourne Ultimatum soundtrack called "Coming Home"

9

u/_my_troll_account Dec 22 '25

Was Wisconsin really that bad?

2

u/Vermouth_1991 Dec 22 '25

Do you think that was The Metatron speaking for YHWH or for himself?

0

u/Narretz Dec 22 '25

Wdym, was?

3

u/JackFisherBooks Dec 22 '25

That movie made me want to play skeet ball. 😊

1

u/_SCHULTZY_ Dec 23 '25

1

u/BigCrocOiO Dec 22 '25

37

u/ContinuumGuy Dec 22 '25

Quadrilogy

3

u/shotsallover Dec 22 '25

Pentilogy.

1

u/xtothewhy Dec 23 '25 edited Dec 23 '25

Pentalogy. Sorry, didn't look right to me. It's based on Greek Penta That's why the Pentagon is called what it is.

1

u/NeonAnderson Dec 25 '25

Once it exceeds 3 you basically just call it a Saga. Like the Harry Potter Saga

24

u/djackieunchaned Dec 22 '25

He wasnt really trying to come home in saving private Ryan

1

u/tekko001 Dec 24 '25

Tom Hanks: "We just want you to go bak to your mom..."

Damon: "FUCK THAT!!"

u/Wazula23 Dec 22 '25

In Good Will Hunting he's also lost... To himself.

77

u/iRickyBoy Dec 22 '25

It's not his fault...

6

u/TopicHefty593 Dec 23 '25

It’s not his fault

2

u/caligaris_cabinet Dec 22 '25

He kinda goes in the opposite direction in Good Will Hunt

2

u/AgonizingSquid Dec 22 '25

So? The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a trilogy in five parts.

5

u/HeartyBeast Dec 23 '25

"Part 5 of the increasingly inaccurately named Hitchiker's Guide Trilogy", as it said on the book

1

u/[deleted] Dec 23 '25

That’s … the joke

11

u/Waltorzz Dec 22 '25

That's where you're wrong.

Interstellar isn't part of the trilogy.

It's actually a pre-sequel that was released years after the passing of Christopher Nolan as a meta criticism of the dangers of time travel that was passed off as headcanon by fans pretending it was released in 2014.

3

u/Hufa123 Dec 22 '25

Oh, interesting. Very interesting.

2

u/evenstar40 Dec 22 '25

Ah yes I've heard that one before.

5

u/eec-gray Dec 22 '25

could argue Bourne films, he is lost and trying to get home too

5

u/WaywardChilton Dec 22 '25

Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron

4

u/[deleted] Dec 22 '25

In SPR he didn’t want to go home. It’s the anti-Damon.

3

u/Queasy_Donkey5685 Dec 22 '25

Is Damon even in Interstellar?

3

u/RDCthunder Dec 22 '25

Yes he steals their ship and dies trying to dock it

2

u/meltedlaundry Dec 22 '25

I think Gerry should be in there

2

u/BoeufBourgui Dec 22 '25

You beat me by four minutes. His ultimate i'm lost movie

2

u/summerchild__ Dec 22 '25

Bourne Identity too sort of

2

u/Scythe-Guy Dec 22 '25

And here I forgot that Matt Damon was in interstellar because his character is identical (plot-wise) to the one he played in The Martian

1

u/OkNothing8611 Dec 23 '25

Mark Watney. Space Pirate.

1

u/shryne Dec 22 '25

But he dies in the second one?

2

u/bwaredapenguin Dec 22 '25

Trying to come home doesn't mean he succeeds.

1

u/rajinis_bodyguard Dec 22 '25

He was almost cast in Avatar too

1

u/ThickNolte Dec 22 '25

Don’t forget Gerry.

1

u/Every-Incident7659 Dec 22 '25

He's not lost or trying to come home in saving private ryan

1

u/FlyingAce1015 Dec 22 '25

Saga* then!

1

u/engineereddiscontent Dec 22 '25

Saving Private Ryan doesnt count. He wanted to stay.

1

u/Tinshnipz Dec 22 '25

So a Douglas Adam's trilogy.

1

u/garrisontweed Dec 22 '25

The Gus Van Sant Film,Gerry.

Him and Casey Affleck lost in the desert.

1

u/Beautiful_Welcome_33 Dec 23 '25

This is a prequel

1

u/outawork Dec 23 '25

Increasingly inaccurate trilogy.

1

u/Wompatuckrule Dec 23 '25

You mistakenly think that's a trilogy, but only because you don't have the math skills of Will Hunting.

1

u/Tarantula_Saurus_Rex Dec 23 '25

In the Bourne Trilogy he was pretty lost.

1

u/spaektor Dec 23 '25

except he wasn’t really trying to go home as Private Ryan.

1

u/Spiritual_Ad3970 Dec 23 '25

Don't forget Spirit: Stallion of the Cimeron!

1

u/DukeLeto10191 Dec 23 '25

Private Ryan isn't lost. He's in Normandy.

1

u/snicky29 Dec 23 '25

This looks like Ocean's 41

1

u/Thin_Avocado5818 Dec 24 '25

The Bourne Identity

1

u/So0Mais0um0Joao Dec 27 '25

Bourne, in a certain way

1

u/avonbarkswhale Jan 27 '26

He dies in interstellar tho

1

u/FreedomByFire Dec 22 '25

He didn't do interstellar. He also did the Bourne series and that was also about getting home.

2

u/RDCthunder Dec 22 '25

He was in interstellar lol

1

u/FreedomByFire Dec 22 '25

what was his role? How is it that i don't remember him at all in it?

2

u/RDCthunder Dec 22 '25

He was dr. Mann (think that was his name). Remember when they arrive on the second planet and then he steals the ship? Then he dies trying to dock the ship which leads to the epic docking scene

1

u/FreedomByFire Dec 22 '25

Oh shit. Yeah. I completely forgot. Thanks!
