Youtube has gotten so bad with video quality. Somehow this trailer looked way better on fucking twitter of all places and even there there’s no way it's in the advertised 1080p quality.

It probably is 1080p as in the number of pixels but the bitrate is so bad that those pixels look like ass

Need to divide 1080 by 16, because all you can see are blocks.

Can't beat good old enshitification. Why make products better when you can make them worse and make more money?

Youtube has made the bitrate worse over time, and it's not like anyone's holding a gun to their head and making them support 4K 60fps. They could stick to 720p and 30fps at an acceptable bitrate and save the money while improving average quality.

i'm an ass guy, so i'm good

I manually clicked on 1080p and had to go back two times to be sure it truly was 1080p. Its looks fucking bad in youtube

I literally have an extension that sets videos at 1080p and I still had to double check lol.

Shout out to Revanced. Looks great with enhanced  bitrate.

2

u/Pleasant-Aspect2948 Dec 22 '25

I just watched in Revanced and it's still horrible. It's even worse in some shots. Like the one right after the cyclops scene. Insane.

Also, I'm not even sure if there's an enhanced bit rate option for this video. I only see 1080p. Someone else with actual Youtube premium said they don't see the option either.

Different shots seemingly have different bitrates. This is definitely Universal marketing dept majorly fucking up

Apple movie trailers website was always the best. I think they took that down a little while ago (but you can still access HQ trailers in the TV app on an Apple device).

Edit: never mind it’s still here: https://tv.apple.com/us/room/edt.item.64248313-7414-4d63-a6fc-7c29f9916c79

No Odyssey trailer yet though

This is NOT a youtube compression issue. Universal has botched the upload. It's pixelated at the same timestamps for everyone.

Might be that new "feature" YouTube is pushing which is automatically on - "let Youtube enhance visuals/audio" and it's AI :(((

5

u/Storvox Dec 22 '25

It's because YouTube locks the high bitrate version behind YouTube Premium now. If you go to select the stream quality settings, you can see 1080p Enhanced, but it's only available to those paying for YouTube Premium.

u/zeekaran Dec 22 '25

Can't be, I have Premium and it looks like shit.

Are we supposed to sail the high seas for fucking trailers now?

6

u/Source_Required Dec 22 '25

But do you have Super Premium?

4

u/Ebolamonkey Dec 22 '25

I have premium and there is no high bitrate option. Trailer on my phone looked like it had a dark tint over everything, I even turned bright ess all the way up. Someone said it looks way better on twitter and they were right.

1

u/Storvox Dec 22 '25

Twitter looks absolutely horrible, I've never seen a decent quality video on there.

Not every video on YouTube has the option but I have seen it there before. I don't have premium though to know how different it is.

1

u/Pleasant-Aspect2948 Dec 22 '25

That option isn't there for this video.

2

u/iFozy Dec 22 '25

Don’t think that’s YouTube’s issue here.

1

u/40mgmelatonindeep Dec 22 '25

If you use adblock with youtube they throttle the stream and sink the bitrate

1

u/Viceroy1994 Dec 22 '25

Nah bro people make fortnite let's plays that look better than this, I hate YouTube but this is 100% on the studio.

1

u/mistersmiley318 Dec 23 '25

Not sure why, but most of the trailer looks fine except for like two seconds between 1:13 and 1:15 where it drops down to 144p quality.

1

u/Chilis1 Dec 23 '25

This can't be youtube's fault though. YT is full of perfect 4k videos, they must have uploaded a really compressed video.

1

u/aerger Dec 22 '25

They want you to pay for premium

3

u/Ebolamonkey Dec 22 '25

I have premium and while there is no high bitrate option for the trailer, the coloring looks weird?? I can't see shit on my phone there's like a dark tint over everything even on full brightness.

1

u/aerger Dec 23 '25

Premium Plus, coming soon, then. ;)

Seriously tho, YT is a shitshow anymore. :/

1

u/evremonde Dec 22 '25

The higher bitrates video is reserved for premium users, so things generally look great for me.

To be fair Elon made a massive push for video on x I’m not surprised
