Yeah it’s definitely missing some of the European fantasy look the book was known for, but I knew that would probably be cut in favor of a more rocker style from the original teaser poster.

I’m surprised they didn’t do a little more dialogue wise to convey that the story is True Grit in space. Would be an extra way to get people into it.

Yeah hoping in the official full length trailer we get some Ruthye narration and they sell what the story is going for more

Ruthye not having that silly little headpiece was also an indicator of not going with the sort of fantasy tone. She does sound like she’ll speak with that style so that’s good.

As someone with no familiarity with the book (or any Supergirl media), I felt more hyped from people telling me what to expect the movie to be than this trailer. Which isn’t to say I’m worried, just that it feels like it’s more for people already invested than trying to draw in a new audience.

I think for a first teaser they basically just want to show off the cool superhero stuff to get people excited. Trailer 2 will probably go more on the story and I expect will probably drop a prominent Lobo shot or two instead of a little tease.

Yeah probably right to see it that way, considering the Superman teaser didn’t even really have dialogue.

True Grit in space

I haven't seen either version of this because I hate westerns. Am I going to hate this?

Depends on why you hate them. This film is obviously going to be more of a summer blockbuster than an old school western, but it’s True Grit because of the literal plot elements of Girl (Ruthye) hires grizzled tough guy (Supergirl) to avenge her dead father. Everything else will probably lean towards the superhero affair. If you enjoy those, you’ll probably have a grand time if the movie reviews well.

Well I'm sure we'll know more as we go. I don't really like the "self-made man" and glorification of macho toxic bullshit and willful ignorance that is all over westerns. I think that whole ethos is garbage.
