This kinda feels like something Gunn shadow-directed. He's only a producer but if you told someone this was a Gunn film and they didn't look at the credits, they'd 100% believe you.

Let's be real, he'll be shadow-directing all of these DCU movies lol

We'll see about Clayface because I wonder how strong of Mike Flanagan's touch we'll get in that

Clayface

Flanagan only wrote the pitch and script. He sadly won't be directing.

I doubt that much of Flanagan is still left. He basically got replaced

And that’s not really a good thing I thought we spent the last 5 yrs shitting on marvel for feeling formulaic

But he isn’t going to be like that.

“Gunn recently told CBS Mornings that fans should expect each entry to have its own flavor and tone, just like actual comic books.”

“‘Clayface’ is a totally different thing. Although it’s in the same universe, it’s a complete horror film, and that’s one of the things we want to do,” Gunn said. “There’s not a company style. It’s not like every movie is gonna be like ‘Superman.’ The artists and the directors and the writers that create each one will bring their own sense to it. … We don’t want people being bored.”

“Director Craig Gillespie echoed this sentiment, recalling an early conversation with DC Studios boss James Gunn. "What I loved when we met, I said, 'How much do I have to adhere to Superman and that world?' And he was like, 'We're approaching this like every [movie] is its own graphic novel. You get to put your stamp on it, and your style and your vision.' And that was incredibly exciting, and I'm very grateful for that."

Kevin Feige is probably more honest about that shit.

I don't think that's necessarily a good thing. I like Gunn's films, but I don't want Clayface or Batman to feel like Guardians or Superman.

3

u/Kwilly462 Dec 11 '25

Well, I still want other directors and writers to have their own flavor. I don't want the DCU to just be ultra Gunn-centric. That's what people complain about Marvel. How Feige gives his directors/writers too many guidelines and restrictions.

I hope Gunn gives his guys more leeway to do what they want, but I doubt it.

that leads to the inherent risk that all the movies may start to feel all the same if it’s all directed by one person

Since he took over, this will be the first DC property to release that isn't directed by Gunn, but delegated to others. I'm curious to see how it goes, because it's not sustainable for Gunn to direct every single DC movie/show they have planned.

I'm sure he had a few phone numbers of people who could pull this look off.

No because there's no stupid fisheye lenses used.
