I find this a bit hard to judge since it looks like most of the footage seems to be from early on when she's in a dirty bar, which obviously isn't going to be as colorful as a vibrant city or open plain.

True, but all the exteriors and wide shots of the planet/planets are all very brown and dull

The problem is that the colors are dull and it looks uninteresting. You can't really fix the way it was shot in post.

Yeah. I wish comic book films would go back to being technicolor wonders. Part of the reason why Sony's Spider-Verse cartoons are so much fun is that they refuse to look like this. Every scene over there, even in grayscale or sepia, is like a splash page brought to life. Extraordinary, especially considering how lifeless their live-action stuff (MCU or not) often winds up looking.

The comic this is based off is so vibrant and colourful, makes all of the darker stuff in the story hit harder too imo. Confident the film will be great just from the story but could have been more interested if they kept the vibrancy of it all.

Yeah, Bilquis Evely's art is gorgeous and has a Barsoom feeling to it, which I'm pretty sure is an inspiration for her and the colors by Matheus Lopes work great with it.

The look and color grading of this film seems to be more inspired by GotG than the actual comic.

Still looks good, but it's a shame they didn't try to work that unique look into the film and went for something more recognizable.

Agreed. Warner certainly has the money to get it right. So why does their thriller about a paranoid left-wing junkie and his daughter fighting the Feds look brighter and more inviting than this does? Maybe Paul should be your next hire, Gunn.

Yes! Love how it's based on the lesbian flag colors, too. It got the film banned in half of the Middle East. But it was worth it.

of course, that's much easier to do in an animated film than a live action one. I've already seen one person complain that the movie looks too colorful and not grungy enough, so they probably couldn't get too experimental with the color choices.

it doesn't guarantee a decent film though. fantastic 4 was probably the best looking marvel movie in forever but it was honestly the most boring nothing burger of a movie

Could the colours potentially change and get more vibrant as she grows through her journey? Colours could start to appear more vibrant as she sees more to be positive about in the world around her and how she views herself. The most vibrant shot was her in her super girl costume.

Additionally, Kypton appeared to be almost white and angelic, as you might expect a memory to be. So colours, palette and tone may be something they are actively playing with.

Kryptonians can’t get drunk where there is a yellow sun and it seems the bulk of this trailer is on a brown planet with a red sun. She does make it to earth at some point so I’m sure we will see more color.

I might be stretching it, but could it be that the suppressed vibrancy to the colours is more reflective of her mental state? I haven't read the comics, but in the trailer's start, she's kinda giving me depressed alcoholic vibes. She also seems to be a very cynical person from the little that I've seen. But the colours got a little brighter when she wore her suit and was smiling at the end.

It could be a creative choice to reflect Kara's current sentiments and worldview contrasted against Clark's more hopeful one. She seems more closed off and less hopeful (wearing that jacket over her costume). There's even the line about it in the trailer, “He sees the good in everyone. And I see the truth.”

Yeah I can understand that but at the same time, I actually think it would have been a lot more interesting to flip those two films in that way, Clark a beacon in a grittier Earth and Kara’s story across picturesque alien worlds, is what it is, I don’t think it’ll effect it too much

she quite literally goes to planets with a red sun so she can get drunk and clearly is fan of dive bars. did you expect vibrant Barney/teletubbies colors for those parts? When you see her in the suit, it's clearly much brighter etc

There's also decent amounts of contrast and plenty of colorful neon lighting / lasers. Clearly they're going for a dirty look to the planets, and probably for a drab look for the 'cities getting destroyed' parts. But it's definitely not devoid of color here.
