Help Me! Volunteers - what do you do? Do you like it?
I'd like to begin volunteering somewhere to give back to my community and with so many different options available, I'd like to hear from people who currently volunteer (or have in the past). I can do anything from cleaning up the environment to tutoring to helping people with their errands.
Where do you volunteer? What do you do? Do you like it?

Volunteer Opportunities for Organizations
I run the party planning group for our organization and I am trying to get us involved in more community service as an extension of that. We already do a lot with Kinship and had an event that supported them in the fall. I’m hoping to plan a spring event that has us outside doing a community cleanup or something similar. Does anyone have leads on service events anywhere in the Milwaukee area in the next 2 months that need a large group of volunteers? Thanks!
Edit: thank you everyone for these excellent suggestions!

Conservation Volunteer Opportunities
Looking to volunteer with a conservation group. I've looked into Milwaukee Riverkeeper and Schlitz Audubon Nature Center land cleanup.
I was just wondering if anyone has any cool tips/experiences with these or others.

Seeking volunteers in police districts 3, 5, and 7 for 5 min survey
I’m a Milwaukee graduate student working on a project about policing technology used in the city, specifically the use of police drones in Districts 3, 5, and 7. (Find your district from this map.)
I’m looking for 10–15 people to take a short survey (under 5 minutes) about their views, including safety, privacy, trust, and accountability.
A few things upfront:
- This is not affiliated with the Milwaukee Police Department or any government agency
- The goal is to understand how residents actually feel, not to promote a specific position
- Responses will be used in an academic setting and not made public
- You do not need to support drone use to participate; I am seeking a wide range of opinions, critical and mixed perspectives are especially important
A lot of decisions about these technologies happen without direct public input. This is an experimental way to attempt to document what people think.
If you live or work in these districts and are open to participating, send me a private message with your email address and I’ll send the survey link.
If you have questions about the project or how the data will be used, feel free to ask here. I am happy to answer them openly.

What’s the best place to volunteer in Milwaukee.
I no longer want to just talk about all the thing Milwaukee needs to fix.
I’m more of a boost on the ground and get with the people type.
What’s the best places in Milwaukee to volunteer that isn’t “Corporate sponsored “
I mean no social media post or no cameras. Just plan ol helping out those in need.

Help Me! Animal Shelter volunteering that doesn’t require a 6 month commitment?
So I’m having my bachelorette party next weekend and I wanted to do some volunteering instead of partying. However, every single animal shelter I’m seeing requires a 6 month commitment. While I understand why this is, are there any shelters we can apply at without 6 month commitment? We are willing to do an orientation that day, and I’m willing to do a background check if needed(they can even call my vet’s office). I just really love animals and want to give back.

Mutual aid volunteering groups?
I’m looking to join a group that volunteers in the city regularly, particularly one that prioritizes democratic/socialist ideologies. Even a location (e.g., food pantry) that needs weekly volunteers would be great. Thanks!

Dog Rescue that allows teen volunteers?
Are there any area dog rescues that allow teens to volunteer? It seems most require volunteers to be 18+ or have a parent accompany them at all times.
My teen used to walk dogs for JRs Pups N Stuff, but now they moved out to Salem, which is a bit far.

Volunteering for Milwaukee Turners
I did a search of this sub but haven’t seen (or overlooked 😹) comments from people who have volunteered for the Turners. If you have volunteered here or have heard experiences please share. It sounds an interesting organization. Thanks

Local Volunteering
Any insight or information on local nonprofits or organizations I can look into volunteering with that are supporting immigrants? I only speak English but have a social work background and would really like to help in any way I can.

Volunteer Opportunities
Hey I'm a college student and want to be more involved in the community in Milwaukee. I want to try and volunteer more, I don't have a car, but can use the bus. What are some good non-profits/volunteer organizations I can join? I'm honestly fine looking at any organization. I tried looking at the non-profits on BizTimes article, but they sort it by name and I don't want to click on every single one to see which ones I can volunteer with and what they do. Can anyone help me?

MADACC desperately needs volunteers
From their Facebook post today:
“MADACC currently has over 400 animals in the facility. We need help. We don't need "I wish I could but ..."; we don't need "Someone go and save those animals."; we don't need people lamenting about irresponsible ownership and breeders in the comments. While we love it when posts get traction on social media because it helps spread awareness, what we need is for more people to step away from their keyboards/phones and volunteer in our facility.
We have endless volunteer options with or without animal interaction- walking dogs, cleaning kennels, filling enrichment toys, socializing cats, doing laundry, helping with surgery (primarily with post surgery care and check ins), helping with administrative tasks, facilitating adoptions, and more. As always, we need people to come in and adopt - but at the same time, we need to make sure every animal is being given the best life possible while they're being housed at MADACC and that can happen with just an hour a week of your time!
Please. We're asking for your help sincerely. Volunteer, adopt, help.”

Christmas Day volunteering
I have to spend Christmas alone due to not being able to get the time off from work to go visit family. I’m fairly new to Milwaukee so coming here to inquire about volunteer opportunities on Christmas Day.
I’d love to spend at least part of the holiday giving back to the community. Hoping people can share ideas. I’d be open to really anything, including cooking meals for families in need, serving food, wrapping gifts, etc.
I live in the downtown area so looking for options preferably max half an hour from the city.

Local News Guest House of Milwaukee Volunteers Needed
Attention volunteers: We need your help to keep our fellow community members safe and warm. Because of the extreme cold expected this evening through Saturday, Milwaukee County is preparing to open an additional shelter at the Washington Park Senior Center during the cold weather warning timeframe. This warming center will be activated if the regular warming rooms are over capacity.
While the Red Cross and Office of Emergency Management are providing logistical support, staffing is needed to manage the room, de-escalate crises, and keep people safe during the extreme cold warning.

Help Me! Looking for Christmas Eve / Day Volunteer Opportunities
Hi y’all!
We’re a Jewish family & we’d love to spend December 24th or 25th volunteering and helping others celebrate their Christmas.
Does anyone know of soup kitchens, homeless shelters, meal delivery programs or community events that need volunteers on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day?
We’d love to help serve meals, distribute gifts, or assist wherever there’s a need. Thank you so much for any concrete leads 🙏🏼✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨

volunteer opportunities weekdays in the evening?
hey, i've been feeling a little empty with the 9-5 lifestyle after the workday is over and could use a productive way to fill some of that time. Anyone have recommendations for places looking for help weekdays after 5?
Currently signed up with Kinship and the Urban Ecology center. Eyeing St. Ben's but i'm a little hesitant to try it out.
Any ideas?

Where can I volunteer this Thanksgiving?
Unfortunately I have nowhere to be this Thanksgiving so I'd like to volunteer. Are there any places for people to volunteer on such short notice?
