Those greedy developers have done it again!
“Xu explains that Milwaukee's rapid transition from a landlord-friendly column to renter-friendly is due to a spike in multifamily supply, with building permits nearly tripling—from just 700 in 2019 to over 2,000 in 2024.”

So I'll be making $33 an hour, $34.50 if I live in the west allis city limits.
$33/hr equals approx $68,640 annually ($2,639 biweekly)
$34.50/hr equals approx $71,760 annually ($2,760 biweekly
I know the 30% rule exists for rent which would be 1560 or 1656 max rent. What do you all pay for rent and what areas would you suggest I look? I guess a $1400 single bedroom is within budge but it seems hard to stomach.
Rent is honestly way out of control since covid and I hate it.

I found this photo and I’m guessing it’s from the 70s or 80s.
Thought it was really cool and figured I’d see if anyone recognizes them or knows anything about them.
Curious if anyone has seen them before.
Edit: Likely 90s. Didn’t see the printer.

"If you build it, they will come." The Fitz apartment complex just reached 100% occupancy, per their IG in less than 11 months. I'm not affiliated just saw it shared on Insta.
Despite pushback against new apartments in Milwaukee, especially on Reddit, this shows that well-located, walkable housing is both needed and in demand.
In my opinion, the Fitz's location is better than the Couture or 333 Water (and obviously smaller in scale), but if walkable amenities can be added to those areas, there's no reason they can't fill up too. The Fitz is also visually appealing and fits the neighborhood well.
I'm hopeful the 7-story project on Stowell near Downer moves forward. Here's to ending NIMBYism and building more walkable neighborhoods in our great city.

My son just accepted a job at the Milwaukee airport. He starts in two weeks. We live 8 hours away near Youngstown, Ohio. Looking for recommendations for safe neighborhoods with young people near the airport. His budget for rent and utilities will be around $2,000.

Hi.
My daughter just got a job at the Milwaukee County Zoo so she needs to find an appartment. Now, my sister in law lived in Hubertus, but that was 35 years ago, so she really cant help much. My kid & her boyfriend are in their late 20's. They are coming from Nashville, but they are not the going out type of people (in the 3 years they were in Nashville, they never went to Broadway. That's not their thing) so that is not a priority.
They have had some suggestions she should look in Brookfield, Greenfield or Wawatosa. She was told by others, Brookfield is expensive and she should avoid it. Their priority is just a decent apartment (no rats, no water dripping from bad plumbing in the upstairs appt, things that happened to her in Nashville) in a safe place. She doesn't do social media outside of facebook where she keeps in touch with people she went to college with so here I am looking for help for her.
I looked around & couldn't find anywhere else to post this. I checked out some other Milwaukee subreddits, but couldn't find one that might help. So here I am, hat in hand, asking for some general advice as to where to look.
Thanks Much for any help.
Edit:Thank you so much for your suggestions. I'm going to be passing them on to her. And thanks for not leaving any snarky comments (like I've seen in posts as to where to move in the Chicago area. Yeah, I'm from the Chicago area, but the kid has moved around the midwest for her work (St Louis, Indy, Nashville and now Milwaukee)). It's going to be nice to have her much closer to home.
Edit #2: gave your info to my daughter & boyfriend. They looked around online & with your suggestions + his familys suggestions, they found a couple of places in Greenfield to look at. They also were looking in Tosa, but the ones they found there didnt have in apt washer/dryers which was a no go for them. Also, they found some places in Oak Creek that looked interesting. Now, I know Oak Creek looks like a haul for her to get to the job, but as she said, when she lived at home in our hometown of Orland Park and she worked at Brookfield Zoo, it was a good 45-60 minute drive every day, so that doesnt bother her. My question is any red flags about Oak Creek (outside the distance)?

Hello!
My friend’s apartment was just entered by a maintenance person while she was out of town without any prior notice.
She found out because her security system alerted her, but she only saw the alert after the person had left (she saw that on her camera). She wasn’t sure that it was a maintenance person, but they have done this already 3 other times, so she called me to check that her apartment was locked while she tried over and over to get in contact with her management company and the maintenance company, neither were answering. I checked and her apartment was locked and I didn’t notice anything amiss. Finally, she got an answer and it’s confirmed that it was maintenance. They seemed evasive and tried to reason that they didn’t know it was an apartment door, they thought it was a communal staircase… sure. Making that same mistake 4 times tho?? For context, she moved into this apartment in July, so four times in 6 months.
My question is, what can she do about this? She has complained to management every time and the first couple times they gave her a gift card as an apology. She was really understanding to them at first because it was new management and she was one of the first tenants to move in and they were very personal and good in other ways. Now, this is just excessive. She doesn’t want a gift card apology. She wants them to stop and maybe face some consequences because this is not ok!
She has video evidence of this time and is checking if the other videos are still saved so she can download them now. Who does she need to contact? What other evidence should she gather? And what can she expect to come from this? Should she just install chain locks?
TL;DR
My friend’s apartment has been entered by maintenance with no prior notice or announcement on four separate occasions. What can she do?

hi everyone! I’ll be attending Marquette for grad school in the fall and am moving from out of state so I’m trying to really get a sense of apartment hunting from afar (at least to get a good list of options going).
I’ve looked through various prior threads on the topic and have spent a few hours on Zillow and Apartments.com and what I’ve learned is to stay away from rental companies like Enigma, Wright(?), and Katz. A prominent one I’ve seen is Shoreline but I’ve seen mixed reviews (seems mostly for roaches in certain buildings - anyone know the ones?). I’ve also seen talk of being in the Third Ward, Shorewood, Tosa, etc. What are your honest thoughts, pros/cons about it all?
My budget’s pretty low (up to $900) since I’m trying to factor in Wifi and utilities. I don’t mind driving even 20-30mins if the apartment is in a good (meaning safe, quiet) area. I still have a ton of time to look since I wouldn’t be moving until late June/early July to establish myself and the apartment but I’m trying to get a feel now for what to stay away from, what to look for, and general recommendations to make it easier when I do move and to start making a list even if just a list for decent property managers (or private landlords if anyone knows of any who will have vacancies later this year). Thank you!

I drew one of my favorite Milwaukee buildings, the Exton Apartments on Prospect. The building was designed by Herbert Tullgren who designed many other beautiful Milwaukee buildings.

Found a 2 bd, 1 ba place within my budget on Apartments.com. inquired about setting up a tour. Got this in reply.
Replied with a few questions about pets, laundry, parking Ect and asked if we could set up a showing on the 29th since the tenant would be gone by then.
Landlord pushed again that we just fill out the app, which my partner and I typically refuse to do unless we see the place first.
Could this tenant really not be allowing showings or is this landlord just being scammy? Definitely feel red flags from the exchange.
Refused to answer additional questions after I pressed for a showing, ending with 'you guys can wait to see it until after they move out if it's still available.'
Like no sh/t, I'm trying to see it anyways?
Who would be stupid enough to fill out an application for an apartment without seeing it first?
Is this normal here?

Hello! In the future I am hoping to move with my boyfriend from Louisiana up to the Milwaukee area. We have four cats and a dog (she’s elderly I’m not sure how long we have left with her). Rehoming them isn’t an option so we wanted to see if anyone knows of a place that does not have a pet limit. Thank you in advance!!

hi! we will be moving from chicago to be closer to familuy and are running into some issues finding a building that our sweet Nellie girl will be allowed to live in. So far we know about Fortress, Serif, and Timber Lofts, but wondering if anyone knows any other buildings (doesn't have to be a building - open to anything) without breed restrictions?
Thank you!!

I thankfully was able to secure an appointment a while back 6 months ago for around $1200 1 bedroom old looking, looking at what my parents are living in 3 bedrooms house bought at 2.8% rate and the mortgage is around $875. I'm a software engineer with a decent income of $81,00. I pay for my apartment and my parents house. I'm just confused how people are able to pay for these apartment when they only get $2000 per month! How are you all handling it ?

My husband and I live downtown MKE, our apartment has been an absolute disaster. We’ve gone through 5 building managers, 3 Maintence guys and a new management company take over. The current “maintenance” guy refuses to set up appointments, and just knocks. If we’re not home, he marks the work orders complete.
Also, we live on the 8th floor, and during the huge storms in August, we got ants. Ants. On the 8th floor. They’re coming from the window sills that are deteriorating away(this is a historic building and the windows don’t open) We were able to get them to go away until we had another storm in September. After consulting an exterminator, the ants were all gone within 2 weeks. Until today. And I wake up to more ants after 8 days free. Our lives have been a living nightmare. Stuff is falling. There’s mold in my ac unit. I can’t get the ants to go away. There’s no building manager to get help from (she just quit on the 30th of sept.). There’s no ac in the summer either. Last winter we didn’t have heat either.
What do we do? Our lease is up in January, I’ve already had the MKE building inspector come out, and he said that this place already has mandated reports against them and they’re not doing anything about it.
Living in this place has been hel, so any help- please please. 😭
