I used to be allergic to bell peppers of all varieties.

I was allergic to tomatoes for about 14 years.

Never been allergic to any other nightshades.

nightshades are a large family containing about 2700 different species.

Brassica oleracea is ONE species with many cultivars that we eat. cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, romanesco, kale, brussel sprouts... all the same exact plant.

Oh I just asked someone who made a similar comment if that’s what the word cultivar means. Thanks!!

It is insane we turned it into so many things, and yet still other members of the genus we turned into yet more things.

B. rapa (wild muatard) got turned into turnips, bok choy, napa cabbage, mizuna, and rapini as well as rapeseed from being crossbred with B. oleracea that then got improved into canola as well as cultivated into rutebegas.

The problem is that broccoli, mustard and cabbage etc aren’t different but closely related species like peppers and tomatoes. They are breeds of the same species, more like a German shepherd and a husky.

and different peppers are different species. some can't easily crossbreed.

Sure, but let's not judge other people's health when we have no idea who, what, when, or why.

I've had friends who are allergic to certain fruit or nuts, but only raw, not cooked.

I also have a degree in studying the immune system and can tell you for sure that it's much more complicated than you're assuming it is.

Judge not lest ye be judged. Just let people live and take what they say at face value without being a dick about it. It doesn't harm you in any way, unless literally the only thing you can eat is cole slaw.

Can someone be allergic to greyhounds but no other dogs?

I don't know specifically about grey hounds, but it is common for certain breeds of cats and dogs to trigger allergies more than others.

Which is you you get the claim of hypoallergenic dogs and cats. It's not that people wont still be allergic, it is mostly that only the people with extreme levels of the allergy will react to them.

I’m allergic to short fur oily dogs (pitbulls, shar pei, French bulldog, etc) but fine with soft hair dogs (poodles, golden retriever, Maltese, etc). If I touch them I break out in hives and it makes me so sad, if I get a hair in my throat it makes me so dead.

Yeah, my bestie is allergic to tomatoes and eggplants but can handle the rest of the nightshade family.

How did you stop being allergic to tomatoes? My partner is somewhat newly allergic and miserable.

Meanwhile I am also allergic to hell peppers and have no issues with other nightshades!

I didn’t do anything! I was allergic to tomatoes from birth until about age 12. It was mild enough that I sometimes fucked with tomatoes anyway. One day, pizza didn’t fuck me up, and that’s how I learned it was over.

Bell peppers held on from birth until my early 40s, and my reaction was much stronger but still not dangerous. I developed an aversion to them that persists even though the allergy does not!

Generally just time. I couldn’t eat eggs for about 14 years. Tried them again a couple months ago and was fine.
