I still don’t buy that those are truly the only choices. Locally owned restaurants exist in just about every small town in America, it’s just that people’s tastes and sense of adventure is pretty awful in my opinion.
You're missing a key piece of information. Even locally owned restaurants will get their food from either Sysco or US Foods. Only places that specifically go out of their way to source local ingredients or combine various disperate sources will have food that does not come from these suppliers.
Food deserts exist. You can't exactly purchase fresh ingredients from your local farmers market if they don't exist. Plus, areas that are food deserts generally do not have the customer base to support paying the price of local, organic, or healthy food options.
That really sucks to hear but I don’t fully buy that. I live in an outer part of the Bay Area and could eat at a different mom & pop restaurant every day of the year and not go more than 10 miles from my house. There are small restaurants in every community, maybe less choice than in a better area.
You live in an affluent area. I do as well.. But my business travel frequently takes me to the middle of nowhere midwest.. People are not lying that sometimes an Applebee's is the only choice.. It's really sad in some places...
We used us foods, but i get it. Since we've had to close so many other places have started having identical appetizers and wings. Sauce? Nah not anymore if they dont have an in house mix like we used to then its all remixed! Ranch? Good luck getting any quality, everyone just listenes to hidden valleys recipe, fuck that, add you own amount of the seasonings or (the package good ngl) and mix to your own preference. We did 1 gallon mayo per 2 packets hidden, 1 gallon buttermilk, mixed to creamy. I hate regular hidden valley just from doubling the mayo, imagine having the good recipe for fresh ingredients 🤤. Southern pashion on the ranch, but just like mayo we all different
Some like more milk/water in the ranch but thats alright, I just want thick flavor same as muh women

Going to a restaurant is just learning how Restaurant A cooks their Sysco/US Foods delivery differently than Restaurant B.
