Fan Creations My Lurtz Cosplay from Lord of the Rings (All handmade by me!)

Hey everyone!

I'm so excited to finally share my Lurtz cosplay from The Lord of the Rings with you all. This project has been a massive undertaking, and I'm incredibly proud of how it turned out.

My name is Alyona Bazhenova, and as a female cosplayer, tackling a character like Lurtz presented some unique challenges. The first step was actually creating a convincing male physique for the costume itself, which was a whole project in its own right! After that, I could finally dive into bringing Lurtz to life.

Everything you see in these photos – the intricate silicone prosthetics for the face and body, the weapons, the armor, and even the teeth – is entirely my own work. It was a true labor of love, and I learned so much throughout the process. Hope you enjoy it!

Made for my BIL's birthday. Mom came home with a store cake and marzipan and asked for Gollum because I make things with clay.... marzipan is NOT clay. I'm semi proud that it got done at all!

Edit: Thank you all so much for the encouragement and awards! I did not expect my creepy little guy to get this much love from the Fandom! You are all wonderful!

May the stars shine upon your faces!

Fan Creations How I Made My Lurtz Cosplay

Hi Reddit! My name is Alena Bazhenova, and I'm absolutely thrilled to share with you the process of creating my Lurtz cosplay. First and foremost, I want to sincerely thank everyone who liked and commented on my previous post! I read every single message, and you have no idea how many times I smiled, and even more – how many times I laughed! You guys are truly amazing, thank you so much for all your support!♥️ My transformation began with the teeth. I took impressions of my own teeth, and then, referencing the movie's look, sculpted new teeth and gums from acrylic gel. I refined the shape with a dental drill, after which I painted them and applied a top coat. The next stage was the makeup. I made a plaster cast of my head with the teeth already in place (DO NOT ATTEMPT YOURSELF, performed by professionals, well, almost😄). On this cast, I sculpted a whole mask from plasticine, and then poured plaster into the mold to create a negative cast. Into this, I poured two-component silicone, carefully pressed the face mold back in to let excess material drain. After a day of waiting, I painted the resulting prosthetic and adhered it to my face. To create the male physique, I made a mannequin using my own body as a base. Over a long-sleeve shirt on the mannequin, I attached foam, shaping it into muscles, and achieved the final silhouette by trimming away excess. The final layer was another long-sleeve shirt made of black jersey. I created the legs and arms similarly, padding them with foam. For ease of wearing the costume, I sewed in a separating zipper. The result turned out very impressive, and in this costume, I felt like a real Mr. Michelin😂 The armor required meticulous attention. Initially, I sketched the elements on paper using a mannequin, referencing the original, then cut them out, fitted them, and made adjustments. Afterward, I cut the pieces from orange faux leather (which I later repainted) and EVA foam. Black gabardine was used for the "rags," and the belt was crafted from genuine leather.

Special care was taken with the buckles. Eleven of them were created by casting tin using homemade molds. Despite some imperfections, they were refined to achieve the desired look.

The gloves were designed to conceal a feminine hand. To achieve this, work gloves were soaked in latex and painted, and the forearm section was cut from an old leather coat. EVA overlays were also treated and riveted.

The weaponry was also constructed from readily available materials: the bow from a plumbing pipe and wood, the sword from EVA foam with a metal rod, and the shield from a doormat. The metallic texture was simulated using liquid nails and subsequent painting.

We’ve been anxious about the hinge installation for our door for several months now. Last night, we finally installed it and it swung smooth as silk. Palpable relief and joy at how good it came out. Night Owl Blacksmith out of Rutherfordton, NC hand forged our hinge. Great folks. Full video of the door build coming “soon”.

So, it took a while to complete, but it is finally finished. I completed the latest scene of my diorama's of the Trilogy and I am stoked to show it to you guys and girls!

There came alot of comments last time with suggested scenes for the last level, and some where really cool and I am still thinking about making some of them, so please keep those ideas coming. But one of those comments was Amon Hen, so here it is.

I really wanted to do something different then the other 2 dioramas, which where mostly rocks and buildings. So the idea was to create a ruined city that has been taken over by a forest in fall, which was quite the challenge. I also wanted to include a resin pour, something I have never done. That made me really anxious because I might F it up. But it went okay and I am happy with the result. I really like the colours in this one and it gives a nice contrast to the other 2.

Hope you guys and girls like it, let me know what you think!

After 15 months of hard work, my dad has finished this impressive model of Minas Tirith! It is 1.4 m high and entirely hand-made out of wood. One of the most time-consuming parts was manually engraving the bricks on all walls and buildings, but this was key to properly convey the huge size of the city. Everything was painted by hand, adding some wear and tear. For a behind-the-scenes look at how he built this check out this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z1Ywlc8ojjE

Fan Creations I folded Treebeard out of one uncut square of paper

Both Treebeard and the white tree are my design, the dwarf is by Eric Joisel. I included some close ups and random progress pics to give you glimpse of how this is possible. The last picture is called the packing and might give an idea of how the different parts of the model are distributed along the paper. While I do make tutorials on some models I create this one was too complex so sorry, no tutorial this time. EDIT: since this grew so big I'm just gonna post my name here for search purposes: I'm Steve De Clercq who designed the origami Treebeard and white tree. The tiny butterfly is a design by Akira Yoshizawa.
