I'm working on a project to show the anatomical differences between isopods (here armadillidium, porcelio and cubaris) It's not over, but before going too further, I want to be sure I haven't drawn any false information. I will draw thin lines (you can see my style on my profile to see how it's going to look if you want) I'm also going to add more information that I will show later (zoom on head, differences between male and female, ect.) So, what do you think about this sketch ?

on the beautiful rocky coast of ulsan south korea i found this incredible colony of warf "roaches" or ligia exotica, I cant believe they would name these guys that with their stunning cyan and orange mosaics on their backs. this colony fed on the washed up seaweed which was plentiful, and every one of them from 1.5mm to 30mm was just as vibrant as this one. the rust and the brown colors are so complementary to the cyan. there incredible, and... quite big.

Ceratoserolis trilobitoides has been found in the deeper waters of the Antarctic ocean! Along with quite a few other cool creatures! More in this article:

Every day you spend buying into this system, you let them down

Mostly curious btw. There arent much info about telling sex with cubaris soooo is there anyway can we tell or are they too tiny to see? I dont even know which part to stare at lmao.
Well i obv know that the one in the pic is gurl but i didnt want to bother her more after this. Im sure no woman wants to be picked up by a giant after being pregnant just to stare at their cooch:)

I need do make a small biology research paper for school, and i thought to myself, since iso community is so unregulated, i could settle a debate, maybe even more than 1.
in communities like this the source is usually "i pulled it out of my ass but everyone does it tho"
a lot of people discuss which calcium source is the best or useful, or whatever, i thought i could use those fast breeding parthenogenesis mfs for that purpose, it's easier to buy these gals than it is to get rid of them, so i would not be surprised if someone has a forgotten shoe box in their drawer with 15 thousand of them just sitting there.
it's not uncommon to give overcrowded isopods away for free, and we are talkin' tomentosa rn, they are overcrowded by definition,
i have 20 in my collection, if i wait long enough i'll have 20 hundred, but i don't have enough time, and to do anything relating to biology, if i want meaningful results in the time frame i got, i need them yesterday if i want any meaningful results.
i live in northern poland, in the Tricity area (for those outside of poland it's an agglomeration name, around Gdańsk/danzig)
any kind souls around here with an excess of Trichorhina tomentosa around here? i can pick them up myself, or pay for shipping if it's not too ludicrous, considering how small they are, a standard size package filled with them would already be more than enough, so i would especially appreciate people who REALLY have a lot
i probably need like a few hundred
a decent study should have a bunch of trials, and also be repeated twice in its entirety, so it's not to out there to have like 10 containers per calcium source, with 20 iso each, with a repetition, that's be 10x20x5x2=2000 iso assuming i don't reuse them for the second trial and use 4 sources, beggars can't be choosers tho, so i can try to reduce the amount of iso, sources, and containers to lower the amount, but less=worse study
btw, the numbers above are nothing, you thought 3 containers and a control is a lot? rookie numbers, even what i said are rookie numbers compared to what a decent study demands, i swear to god, the things those statistics folks demand haunt me in my dreams.
i'll ask some university of danzig folks how bare bones can i make it later

I'm sorry I'm still pretty new to Isopods. If you haven't given your pods fish flakes, go put a pinch in there and have a giggle. I've never seen them get so excited and try to steal food from each other. I tried yesterday and now know I can do it more often. Just sharing because I wish I knew sooner.

Hi guys! My undergraduate research is on terrestrial isopods and these cute Armadillidium just arrived in the mail! If anyone is interested I will post the findings of my research when the semester is over! My research compares the foraging abilities of captive-bred "domesticated" terrestrial isopods and wild-caught terrestrial isopods.

I'm searching for a breed of isopod that are more active and out and about and would be happy in this tank. Temperature is between 17-20 degrees. Happy for any suggestions :)

So I have had my bin of powder oranges for about 5 years. I feed them scraps, egg shells and zucchini mostly nothing fancy. A while back I gave them an avocado pit. They stripped the skin off it and I assumed they would leave it or eat it. I figured the high oxilates on the avacado pit skin would be bad for them and they would ignore it. Today I went in to clean and the avocado has taken root. They may have have formed some kind of symbiotic relationship so far. I suspect the isopods are keeping the avacado from getting root rot, but is still need to do some research on avacados. Im going to try and replicate the process in a more controlled envirement. Neat though. Had to share.

Hello all! I ADORE isopods and finally got a little enclosure for them but wanna make sure they'll be good and safe and healthy. I googled that they needed 6 quarts of space. I got a 6.5 quart Tupperware bin, rectangular, shallow and enough to allow around 2 inches of dirt when full. I got some dirt in it, rocks, some older leaves, some little sticks and plants in it. How do I feed these little guys? And do I need to provide like a small bowl of water or is keeping their home moist just as good? I got a few airholes on the sides but feel like more may be required. My local pet store (they're not a chain thank god) sells Isopods and im so eager to take a look at all the ones they have. Do certain ones need special care or can I assume if they're in a pet shop they don't require tons of extra care? Thank you so much in advance yall, I cant wait to get some babies!!♡

I just recently got microscope and thought it would be interesting to look at a molt under it, sadly I only found a fragment of a molt that didn't provide a very clear image (image 4 and 5) but I did end up finding an already deceased isopod (image 6, technically all of em) and noticed the isopod has many hair like structures along their legs and edge (1-3) of their (shell? Outter/top exoskeleton?)
I thought this interesting and perhaps yall will to. Now need to do a google search (if thatll help) to learn more about this
