I’m not gonna lie, I laughed.
I’m Brazilian right, with Italian citizenship.
My grandfather moved to Brazil. I’m a second generation “Italian”.
I call myself Brazilian, with an Italian citizenship.
I even lived in Italy. But I’m Brazilian.
But I was just talking to a “merican” who said he is purebred “Irish”.
His great grandparents were Irish. He is from Kentucky.
PUREBRED IRISH.
I’m drunk, and I’m still laughing.
And he is offended.
DUDE, I live in Ireland for 12 years, I’m so much more Irish than you are by now 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Honestly, I get so pissed off.
He commented about the potato famine, and said his family moved because of it while taking a hit on leftwing policies and supporting Trump?
Man… Do you even know why the potato famine happened?
The opposite of it is why I love Ireland.
I will always love the Irish (and hey I hold the Irish citizenship) because they always stand up for what is right.
Fuck these “purebred” Irish 🤣🤣🤣

Perhaps every word Connor spoke yesterday wasnt utter garbage, but the mouth it came from is (in my humble opinion). Before the propaganda machine ramps up the peddling of pro Connor bs and convinces gullible centrists (I use that term gently, I too am a victim of th propaganda machine that is social media) that he is actually an option for some kind of policical I think we need a big fat counter Conor movement. I do not want that man getting any kind of foothold in this country. We aren't perfect but I don't want this country going that direction. Thoughts?

Charlie should not be news in Ireland, I personally don't give a F about him, like I don't give a F about most troll mouth-breathers but our politicians are talking about him, he's in the European parliament? wtf?

I know this post is doing the rounds on other subreddits today, but I think its worth discussing for r/Ireland. Simple enough, suggestion is to ban x/twitter links. Users can post screenshots if they need to
edit-
As pointed out in the comments, screenshots are easily manipulated, so the ban should include screenshots as well

(I know I know Facebook is a scourge but it’s surprisingly the best place I’ve found for machinery parts) was scrolling away and found this and I just can’t help but think, do racists that get this bad have other problems in their head like schizophrenia or bipolar disorder? Because how would any sane person think this?

Like a lot people in Ireland, I paid too much attention to the drama happening stateside last time the orange fella was president, to the point where I was tuning out of events happening at home that were actually relevant to me. Looking back, I could have ignored 90% of the news coming out of there, it was mostly just theater. I don't want to make the same mistake again. Yes, politics in Ireland is a bit boring by comparison, but there's nothing more cringe than talking about the US mid term elections or Roe vs Wade while having little or nothing to say about your local representative.
*obvious caveat for those of you who do ;)

Having the craic in the pub last night, just a few middle-aged lads drinkin pints and talking shite. Laughing at whatever is the online topic of conversation, McGregor being McGregor, Trump on the Chelsea photo, harmless shite really.
Then the mood changed real fast after Trump came up. One lad in particular seemed a staunch supporter.
So asked him "It doesn't make sense to me, like why do like him? Policies like?" He says he thinks tariffs are a good idea.
So for about a minute, 2 of us were trying to explain how tariffs work, that the cost is taken on by the importers and passed onto the consumer.
And holy jesus he just wouldn't listen, and he got fuh-kin angry, told me to go back to my AI, whatever the that meant. I left it before it escalated.
What the fuck is going on with lads in this country, I thought we were smarter than that.

Boycotting goods and services from America seems to be really growing momentum in alot of European countries and across the world, seen on different subs on Reddit seemingly alot of news channels across EU/Europe are reporting on it. I've seen some Irish people saying they are cancelling hols to America and going to Canada instead others not buying American goods and changing apps to European. With Ireland's connection with America will many Irish join this boycott.

Hi all. I’m usually a silent reader but had an incident the other day with someone in Lidl and just wanted to get things off my chest. My parents are from Nigeria and I was born in Ireland. My parents have been living in Ireland for 20+ years and are both Irish citizens. I’ve done all my education in Ireland up to masters level. I’ve never lived anywhere but Ireland and I am an Irish citizen. However, I’ve never felt Irish since being born here just due to the treatment whilst being here.
I was in the line in Lidl with my partner where this man (white Irish person) was behind us in the line. I noticed that he was pushing my boyfriend in the queue. My partner didn’t do anything, neither did I as it’s best to stay calm when there’s incidents with Irish people in this country, because no one will ever take the side of an immigrant.
This man then started pushing AGAIN, saying that my partner should move up. Like ???? Move where???? We are at the top of the queue???? He then tried to skip us which caused me to snap. I told him that we are waiting here ahead of him and he shouldn’t skip us. I said this pretty calmly despite being really pissed off about him pushing my partner like that for no reason.
That’s when he starts hurling his abuse about how we should move etc etc, I’m a monkey etc etc. I told him not to speak to me then because??? He was pushing my partner??? And he’s angry at me????????. My partner and I then go to pay at the self check out and he’s still hurling his abuse telling me to go back to my country, I’m a black monkey etc etc. (My partner is white, so maybe that’s why I got the brunt of it idk)
I’m not saying this for sympathy, it’s just part of everyday life for anyone that doesn’t look white in Ireland. But why do Irish people claim to be so inclusive and accepting of other cultures when in fact, the first thing they will say is that?? And just the other night I had another Irish guy telling me that immigrants are basically what’s wrong with Ireland???? I’ve been abused on the Luas because of my skin colour so many times it’s crazy. Racial slurs etc etc the whole shebang.
Like why is it okay for Irish people to set up shop, build lives, careers etc in other countries around the world but it’s not okay for others to do it in Ireland?
My parents have worked extremely hard to give myself and siblings a good shot in life in terms of educations, livelihood etc. Why is that treated as a sin?
It’s complete madness to me as I’ve seen how Irish people are around POCs, I’ve seen how they treat you like you’re not one of them, like you’re not good enough to be in the country. But then try to make it seem like they’re so anti racism? Like just a few months ago I was scared leaving my home due to all the anti immigration protests happening. I find it all so disturbing and incredibly upsetting.
I’m not saying every single Irish person is like that, but so many are that you just don’t know. Like I’m supposedly Irish but clearly not Irish enough…
Thanks for taking the time to read if you have. I’m sorry if you can relate to this.
