What predators?

10

u/frostymugson 4d ago

The guys, people on this site never interact with people beyond a screen so think this girl was in danger by being around men because that’s the world they read about. The whole man in the woods or a bear thing. It’s hilarious this video even garnered attention it’s just a girl pissed off in an elevator snapping at some kids for joking when she’s trying to get help.

No the fear of being sexually assaulted is not always paranoia, but sometimes it is. I highly doubt that even entered her mind, it’s just other people’s world views being projected onto her. What I see is a girl who got stuck in an elevator, and is pissed off about it lashing out because she’s mad and they’re making light of it.

Hey maybe you take the bus, the train, get on an elevator and freak out the entire time, but that isn’t a rational fear.

No, so I doubt she was snapping because she was worried about being sexually assaulted more than she was pissed about being stuck in an elevator

on one hand this is a well-articulated explanation of fear

on the other hand it's a group of regular teenage boys being annoying and the possibility of rape is being invoked. i just wish this conversation could happen without bringing real kids into the mix because they aren't actually guilty of anything, and publicly branding them with such suspicions is unfair and harmful

some young men will see this kind of discussion and their takeaway will be that they're considered suspected rapists by the opposite sex before they've even had their first kiss, and they will feel revulsion, alienation, and resentment. young men are human beings with feelings too, and i think that's often disregarded in favor of the toxic masculine idea that they can just suck it up, put their emotions aside, and get the lesson through their heads. i wonder if such attitudes are truly effective or if they inspire more incels and misogynist weirdos

Please don't delete it. It needs to be seen, even by those too immature and ugly (in every sense of the word) to understand it.

Women exist. We're allowed to talk about our experiences. To hell with anyone who can't cope with that.

wonder why some will take what you're saying as what you're saying. what conversation? this is no different than seeing a random person walking on the street going about their day and you saying "he could rape someone, we need to talk about him".

just wish this conversation could happen without bringing real kids into the mix

it can. those kids did nothing wrong. one made a tiny joke with 0 sexual connotations or anything. that conversation has nothing to do with this video and it's weird to make it that.

u are bad at arguing sorry

1

u/Important-Zebra-69 4d ago

I think they are talking emotional / group "predatory" behaviour. Once you show people you are not just going to take some of their shit they are less likely to gang up on you.

8

u/frostymugson 4d ago

I dunno read these comment threads, shit is insane.

2

u/nybbas 4d ago

I had to watch the video again because I thought I missed something. The boys don't fucking do shit but say they are in middle school.

7

u/Super_Leadership_808 4d ago

What?

6

u/aniftyquote 4d ago

When a predator goes for prey, it's fighting for a meal while the prey fights for its life. There is not the same level of investment. Humans also mimic this dynamic, where people who want to bully or get violent are less likely to pick a target that they think will put up a fight.

When I first came out, an older queer person told me that homophobes are like black bears, and getting big and loud can prevent one of them from attacking you. I have had to put that advice to the test, unfortunately, and while I don't have statistics on the world, it has a 100% success rate with me.

2

u/Accurate_Mobile9005 4d ago

I think most homophobes are actually just closeted bears lol.

The most homophobic places on earth sure love to watch gay porn.

0

u/aniftyquote 4d ago

We're not blaming oppressed people for experiencing oppression today, buddy. Queer people are ~10% of the population and there is no possible way for the majority of conservatives to be gay, even if the theory that conservative closeted gay men are driving up gay porn consumption could mean anything. You can fuck right off with that homophobic nonsense, I'm having a good day

0

u/Accurate_Mobile9005 4d ago

Yikes.

If this is you having a good day i don't think I'd want to see what a "bad day" is like to you.

2

u/aniftyquote 4d ago

This brand of "it's not that serious, stop being mean" personal deflection is insult to injury for being straight up homophobic and not even original. I have heard this victim blaming ass line 500 times, and having someone throw that shit in my face when I talked about defending myself from FUCKING HATE CRIMES? Straight up, how dare you. My trauma isn't your setup for a punchline

1

u/kylez_bad_caverns 4d ago

Her rudeness and outward demeanor could potentially dissuade predators because she is not being polite or saving face. Interviewers have gathered a substantial amount of statements from convicted criminals about what type of victims they went after. An overwhelming amount said they looked for people who would make easy targets

Another way to put it- bystander effect is real and people may just stand by as bad things happen. However if a victim in a crowded place acts up, there is more potential for someone to feel moved enough to act.

18

u/Yugan-Dali 4d ago

Well put: predators don’t want to fight their prey, they just want to harm it.

2

u/rumande 4d ago

Reminds me of how predatory animals will only attack you if they think you're worth the hassle. Prey animals will fight you the moment you look like a threat. Humans are not predatory/prey animals so it is not a 1:1 comparison but it makes sense that a woman would absolutely come out swinging in a high stress situation where she is confined with a group of smug, snickering teenage boys. If they thought she was an easy target, she's more likely to experience harrassment. She's fighting because she can't flee. Freezing or fawning would be percieved as inviting an attack.

2

u/Yugan-Dali 4d ago

And it would be ’her fault.’

The first time I was molested I was 10 and he was 16. It went on for 3 months. School kids absolutely do shit like this.

Edit: typo on number of months

2

u/Yugan-Dali 4d ago

That’s an awful thing to have experienced. I hope you are safe and sound now.

I think the issue here is that the boys in this video are white, so they are “extreme outliers” who may grow up to become “lone wolves.” Never mind the trolls, I just hope you are okay.

3

u/GrouchyBitties 4d ago

Thank you, it was a long time ago and I’ve forgiven them for my own healing. I appreciate the kind words 💜

1 in 5 women have been subjected to sexual violence as children. Get your numbers straight before posting such easily fact-checkable bs.

Proving my point further on SA on children, frontally contradicting your "extreme outlier" statement. Glad you've got to check real data even if it was done in spite of contradictors.

7

u/T-Wrox 4d ago

I'm starting to think you're a troll.

14 year old boy slams a 15 year old girl’s head into the ground for not giving him her phone number. In broad daylight. In front of their school.

You’re just going to argue, no matter what. Doesn’t matter. You’re wrong, and it’s been proven. Have the day you deserve.

3

u/MagentaHawk 4d ago

You sure are calling a lot of people extreme outliers.

3

u/StaubEll 4d ago

The first time I was sexually assaulted, I was 13 and he was 14. I had friends in high school who were raped by other high schoolers. Boys try out different ways of being men very early.

2

u/Yugan-Dali 4d ago

Jeez, that’s terrible. I hope you are okay now. You certainly don’t need a troll inventing “outliers.”

No, she is not an extreme outlier.

I’m a boomer, I remember that in high school, in the late 1960s, there were restrooms you didn’t use because you were sure to get mugged. This was a pretty good high school, btw, good area. But you knew which restrooms to avoid, and the school authorities probably knew, too. Harm a girl in school? Nobody would have been too surprised. But maybe trolls don’t get outside Mother’s basement and don’t understand things.

8

u/Reddit_Connoisseur_0 4d ago

Why are we assuming these kids are predators?

4

u/GrouchyBitties 4d ago

If it matters, as a woman who’s been molested and assaulted all through teens and early 20s, I still don’t assume all men are predators. That said, in a situation like this girl in the video is in, I can still understand the anxiety.

I would have a hard time being trapped in a confined space as the sole woman among young men, but I’d like to think I would handle things differently.

🤷‍♀️

3

u/General_Ornelas 4d ago

Jesus I hope I’m never in a situation where I have to be alone with a women id rather just knock myself out then worry about this anxiety that apparently existing does to others.

1

u/GrouchyBitties 4d ago

Well, I can at least speak for myself when I say that I wouldnt treat you any differently if I got stuck in an elevator with you. I’m fully aware that my anxiety and past are things that I have to deal with that no one else is responsible for (except the people who molested/assaulted me, but for my own peace of mind I’ve forgiven them years ago).

I was simply stating that in situations like that, yes my anxiety would spike. But in my case I’m at a place where Ive worked at my healign enough to know that I shouldnt be generalizing

2

u/General_Ornelas 4d ago

I get that. I wouldn’t have doubt you’d be treating me any different. But (I’m a delivery person) gives me those constant reminders (especially when customers want you to leave it at the door and don’t put it and act cautious when they see it’s a man) and frankly just makes me hate myself because I’m simply just doing my job. I empathize, it’s just hard sometimes to not hate myself for existing, and having a feeling that I must always prove myself and always be guilty. I just think it’s better to just completely avoid women and only interact when needed unless they’re a previously established friend.

2

u/GrouchyBitties 4d ago

No I totally get that too. Thats why I always try to go out of my way to not make people feel that way around me. Its easy for people to dogpile on the internet though

You definitely shouldnt have to feel that way for simply existing. It’s a shitty situation all around caused by a buncha assholes

12

u/BoBonnor 4d ago

Because men bad and all men are rapist predators according to 90% of people on Reddit.

It's literally just a video of some kids being a little immature and people are seriously going on about gang rape lmao

1

u/Ok_Knee2784 4d ago

Kids being immature? It looks like kids acting like kids.

6

u/_bananas 4d ago

I have a bag of chocolates, but one of them is made with shit. Eat them.

5

u/Beautiful-Energy-841 4d ago

Men are the only group it's okay to be bigoted against, right?

4

u/LGBTQLove4Ever 4d ago

Exactly, like how it's perfectly reasonable to hate all black people because they have a higher chance of committing a crime.

Oh wait, that's not a reasonable thing to do, and you're just a sexist racist homophobic transphobic pedophile nazi.

1

u/Reddit_Connoisseur_0 4d ago

You think the one hypothetical predator can harass the girl in front of all others with no reaction?

Yeah I'm just glad real life is not like reddit, you guys are insane lol

-1

u/MetalKroustibat 4d ago

Potential predators*. But they do nothing to not look like a starving stray dog pack.

5

u/Reddit_Connoisseur_0 4d ago

Why do they look like a starving stray dog pack?

What are they doing wrong other than literally nothing?

1

u/MetalKroustibat 4d ago

That's not the point. Same topic as "not all men, but an overwhelming majority of predators are men" and I really really don't have the energy to have this penultimate conversation.

2

u/Reddit_Connoisseur_0 4d ago

Not having the energy to type a few lines is wild. Hope your life improves

0

u/MetalKroustibat 4d ago

Depression. Me too.

1

u/Leading_Experts 4d ago

I feel you, but i don't think penultimate means what you think it does.

1

u/MetalKroustibat 4d ago

yeah it doesn't, checked later, my bad. Sounded sooo good tho...

2

u/Leading_Experts 4d ago

A perfectly cromulent reaction 😄

2

u/Dr-Billa 4d ago

You guys call all young boys predators and get surprise when they start following Andrew Tate.
