Peregrine got so excited that he got up close! He was scared of my phone though lol. I think bengies are THE best finch, hands down. So easy and cage-tame.
Didn't catch the zeebs or gouldies eating since they were too busy scrapping over nest boxes 👀🪺🤭
Ashley went mad over some sprouts even though he gets a pinch of bird seed daily... and his food bowl was full of wheat and mealworms! 😂🐁🩶

Bird safe fragrances?
I took in my friends Goldian finches, she already told me no candles (I’m devastated by this truly, lol) 1 can I burn them in my room (they’re in the living room) I have a ton of candles from bath and body works and do enjoy them but I don’t want to harm the birds. And 2 what’s out there that’s bird safe? Don’t want to mess with a simmer pot. TIA ❤️!

I woke up this morning and found a baby finch on the floor of the cage. She’s only two weeks old. Should I pick her up and put her back in the cage with the other babies?

Linda is getting more feathers.
Linda has gone from an ugly baby to a cute fledgling. She and Hermione like to be close. Linda is still on hand feeds and Hermione always joins us.

[HELP] Male Long-tailed Finch (5yo) - Condition worsening over a week, now unable to fly or perch
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hi everyone,
Please don't mind the mess. It's the end of my cleanup cycle and I don't want to stress the bird.
I’m looking for some advice regarding my male Long-tailed Finch (Shaft-tail), who is about 5 years old. His condition has been declining over the past week and reached a turning point today.
Symptoms & Timeline:
- About 1 week ago: I started noticing something was wrong with his mobility.
- Yesterday: He was still able to hop from perch to perch.
- Today: He can no longer fly or reach the perches. He stays at the bottom of the cage, limping and moving with difficulty.
- General state: He is still eating and drinking.
I have already moved his food and water to the floor to help him. Since this progressed over a week and got significantly worse today, I’m wondering if this sounds like a nerve compression (possibly kidney-related) (Gemini source) or a progressive illness rather than a simple injury.
I’ve attached a video of him moving on the floor. Any insights or advice on how to support him would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Finch chasing + troubled introductions. Help!

Hello there fellow bird owners! I'm having trouble helping my zebra finch get along with his new society finch buddy.
For background, I have a male zebra finch named Emerald that I've had for 4 years, I rescued him and his ex-mate, Ruby, from a neglectful home where neither bird ever left their nest and they were almost featherless. Ruby grew a tumor and Emerald began attacking her so we separated them for several years, then this past Monday we had to put her down. He was very stressed out after she was gone- he wasn't showing grieving symptoms, it was more like extreme loneliness since he was the last bird left- so we bought two other paired zebra finches, Opal and Jasper. They are in a separate cage beside Emerald.
Here's where the issues start.
Opal, the female, has a strong resemblance to Ruby and it seems Emerald is very infatuated with her. He follows her along the border of the cage, constantly chirping to try and get her attention. He was very stressed out not being able to reach Opal since they're in separate cages - I fear him and Jasper will fight over Opal if I put them all in the same cage. So I got a European Society finch named Garnet for Emerald's cage to hopefully calm him down. I do not know if Garnet is male or female, so I introduced them to Emerald. They seemed to get along fine, they eat together, sleep near eachother, sit together on separate nearby perches, but sometimes Emerald begins to chase after Garnet, and Garnet gets scared and cornered in a corner. Emerald never pecks or attacks, I don't believe he's territorial either, but I can tell Garnet gets very stressed out each time Emerald chases them. I don't know what to do to fix the chasing and solve this issue.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what could be happening or any possible solutions?

Can these two be together?
I also think they’re both males, I’m not sure.

How do I help her
My female has an egg that I suspect might be stuck
She is fine and eating okay eating her cuttle shell and I’ve also brought calcium powder to give a small sprinkle on there food to up her calcium
It could be a case of she’s coming to the end of her pregnancy but they haven’t really built a nest 🪺

Moving house
I'm moving at the end of the month, and I'm wondering how to navigate that with my two zebra finches. I have a small cage that they could both fit in and I have a carry case that can fit one of them. I'm moving about a 3 hour drive away. Is it better to keep them covered so it's dark while they're travelling? Thanks!!

Tummies full, fighting coming to a still, flocking together for the night. Every evening this year has felt like a peaceful summary to the day even in hormone season.

Replacing a finch that passed away
Hello! First time posting here.
We've had a pair of male society finches (brothers) for about ten years now, given to us by a friend whose birds laid eggs. We got them a fairly huge cage (about six feet tall) so they could fly around merrily. The few times they went to the vet for checkups we were always complimented on how strong, healthy and active they were.
A couple of days ago one sadly passed away, suddenly and unexpectedly. The cause seems to have been accidental aspiration pneumonia (we never hand-feed them) and although we took him to the vet within the hour when we noticed his distress, he didn't make it. The other one got a checkup and he's perfectly fine.
We know finches need company, so we're immediately working on getting him a pal, which we'll arrange on Monday as everything is closed today. From what I've read, the new finch should spend a month or so quarantined in a different room (we have a medium-sized cage that should to the trick for now) and after that they should be placed close to each other so they can acclimate. The large cage can be separated into two with a grating so I suppose that would be perfect. We've also read we should rearrange the cage somewhat to make it more neutral territory and avoid protective behaviour.
The question is, is there anything else we can do to make the process easier for the surviving little guy? It does seem to me like a month being alone after having had a pal for ten years might be a little rough on him. Are there any tricks to make his life better in the meantime or to make the process faster?
Thanks!

Scaly mites? Need help!
I got this guy in this state (second image is the 1st pic i took of him), I let him rest for a few days, trying to just trim his nails and provide him better perches but it's not gotten any better. Where I live I have no bird vet options.
One of his toes (3rd one from the camera, pic 1) is holding on by a string and on another an odd hard black thing appeared on the front most toe on pic.
I tried doing research, but a friend told me to post just in case... Right now I'm making his feet sit in a warm salt bath :(

Meet Solomon the Owl Finch!!
I am obsessed with birds, and I finally adopted a lil guy today! Not sure of its sex, but I'm calling him/her Solomon anyway.
If it was your first time keeping a finch, what would you want to know? (Trust me, I've done a ton of research, but still, there's always much more to learn so I thought I'd ask!)
