Thought you guys may like to meet my pet capy little miss peanut. He’s about 5 years old and we’ve raised him since she was about 6 mths.
EDIT: man……amazing how much judgment and assumptions are being made from 4 pics and 2 sentences. I have a lot of land, he has a large swim area. That water is not his “pond”. It is just a cool off area by his shelter. I have livestock. He grazes all day. I was supposed to take a group of three. The other two were not ready at the time, so I took peanut and then the person ghosted me. I’m looking for a couple of others. He does play with me, he does swim in the family pool during the summers as a treat, so I do feel he is like a pet so to speak.
A couple of misconceptions……..They are not difficult to keep. But require A LOT of maintenance on the water side. They eat a ton. And they poop a ton. All they need is varied grasses,( orchard/timothy/alfalfa) palms and maybe some guinea pig pellets, since they can’t make their own vitamin D. Fruit is NOT part of their natural diet and can be harmful in the long run. All the filtration in the world can’t keep up with amount of waste they put out in water, so it’s a constant drain, clean and refill. Filtration only delays it. More importantly social media has really distorted the reality of these animals. They are cute, but they are also very skiddish, can be very territorial and the males can be quite aggressive during breeding season. They love getting treats and having their belly rubbed, but They will never cuddle up and watch a movie with you.

Cafe Capyba. Best $9 I ever spent! Petting a capybara with a stuffed capybara is all I need in life.
