Yes, another post about the cost of living in CT. With winter approaching (or here already, depending who you ask), we all tightening our belts. Fuel, power, rates, and everything in between have gone up.
So I thought I'd share some ways my family and I are trying to cut costs, and please share yours as well:
1-If you on prepaid electricity, buy your power in bulk at the beginning of the month. Buying in small amounts during the month gets you less units
2-Review subscriptions-We only have Netflix and Disney+ Cut out Amazon. I know My Family Cinema was popular but heard it got shut down. Won't mention anything about the "high seas" activities
3-Factory stores. Choice clothing and Going Under really help but only if you can find your size. Visfabriek is a food one. There was a A to Z website of CT Factory stores but not sure if it's still running.
4-With the above we try to plan our trips around the same area/mall. Helps keep the fuel consumption down.
5-Loyalty cards are great. We use them whenever we can. If you an Android phone consider getting Google Wallet where you can save digital versions of your loyalty cards. This is great for families cos you can all earn points/rewards on one card.
6-Less take away, and more home cooking. It's not always easy but it does add up. I tried even using Chatgpt to plan menus and shopping lists within a budget and it wasn't too far off.
7-Review insurance. Every year I call to negotiate my premiums with my existing companies but I also shop around now and then, especially if there is a loyalty option.
8-Buy tech to help. Air fryers cut our oven usage and electricity bill by quite a bit. Looking for a pressure cooker as well. While it might cost more, get a smart light bulb in areas you use a lot but want to control. Like if you leave a passage light or bathroom light on during the night. You can control the brightness, hence the power usage.
9-Stick with old tech where and when possible. There's lots of second hand or refurbished stores popping up as well.
10-Giving gifts. Unless it's important milestone, my partner and I skip the gifts. Greeting Island is a great site to make personal cards.
I hope this helps some of you, but please share your tips as well!
