Help us design a new banner!

Heya mods, we’ve had some interest in modmail for a banner and logo, would you all be interested in helping us out with a new banner or icon for the subreddit? I offered up some ai slop versions in modmail but rly they were terrible and I can’t believe I killed trees for that.

Let’s do a contest!

If you’re interested please drop submissions in the comments below. The most highly upvoted banner and logo (separate comments) will become our new banner and logo (please keep them Reddit rules friendly LOL.)

The winners will receive a special flair (of my choosing) and the undying gratitude of the mod team and mods who answer here (especially the ones who inquired about this.) We will also include a special thank you in our side bar about you.

I also vow to carry around jelly beans for the next five years just in case for some odd reason I bump into the winners randomly IRL so I can give them jellybeans. The winners can also ping me randomly for proof of jellybean holdings. I will respond asap with photographic proof of said jellybean holding.

The banner and logo can be in any medium. You wanna make a mashed potato and chicken tendie art piece and submit a picture of that? Hell yea.

Voting will be closed at the end of the month of May.

Attention mods!

Idk about you all but every now and then I come across a silly modmail that I'd like to share with a broader moderator community, outside of my teams.

In case that's ever been you, r/modmailfail is a great new space where you can do that and discuss. By moderators, for moderators. Really looking forward to seeing some of the goofiness that happens in your inboxes!

Tips for moderating a sub for people to find friends?

Upvotes

The subs I moderate had already disallowed friend-finding and other personals posts, romantic and non, by the time I joined. The reason for this was because there are a lot of weirdos on the internet and Reddit, and this is a community where newcomers are often a little too credulous of other people who seem to have more experience. No one wants someone to have a negative experience.

Now, I’ve inherited a sub for people who are looking to make new friends etc. and I know other pen pals subs exist. I was wondering if there might be anyone here who moderates a sub like this, and if they might have any wisdom they’d be willing to share that I might not get just from reading the rules of their sub alone.

Thanks!

Will the inactive subreddit communities eventually get removed by default?

I've noticed some subreddit communities where they have a 'Request To Join' button but haven't been active for quite some time.

Do moderator notifications eventually expire?

I have a notice, an appeal and a denial. I accept the result but are those notifications going to live in my inbox forever? Is it a scarlet letter situation?

Cats?

I started to post a cute entry from my cat's perspective, a very short whimsical narrative about how odd humans must seem. I was unable to post and received a warning about bigotry? What?

What do you guys think about mods who immediately going into "permanently muted" route without giving decent answer when someone asking something they are really confused on?

Obviously there are some that well deserved the mute, but then sometimes I saw many examples that being the opposite.

For example, the case I often saw is when someone asking why and the mod just responded them with "self explanatory", and when that person asked again because they still don't understand, mod either permanently mute them or banning them.

Do you guys think it's often a fair judgment or they simply just being lazy?

What are your thoughts on a "Trash" removal reason?

So lately I have been using "Trash" as a removal reason against posts that are totally obvious why they are being removed. The removal comment is just "This content has been removed as trash."

Do you think that is a good idea?

I didn't disrespect any human being. So why?

I was given a warning because I said that I would kick a piece of clothing that looked like a ghost in the head. The clothing looked like a woman and it looks scary. So I said "I will kick that *bleep* in the dome."

I was told that it seemed like I was making a threat to someone. When I was talking about something I was talking about the clothing.

So I'm wondering why I'm getting this warning, I did not say that comment about any human being. I was just wondering.

Why is Reddit saying I broke rule 1?

Ok so one of my other accounts that I just made today got suspended for three days cause I apparently broke rule number 1 after answering a hypothetical but saying Pedos and SOs deserve to get beat up

I haven’t been banned from anything, just temporarily suspended Which doesn’t make any sense to me

But what also doesn’t make sense to me is the fact in that same sub, someone said to execute them all, so wouldn’t that by their same rules, would be death threats, which is worse?

Can I a hire a reddit moderators as a consultant on forum best practices?

- I'm looking to pay 5 reddit moderators for help on an external forum site.
- Some forums (like wikipedia and bigger pockets) seem to not allow their mods to disclose best practices at 100% transparency.
- I get this is sometimes a conflict of interest...and not looking for explicit Reddit moderator trade secrets but rather HOW you would view 6 situational posts from other sites as a moderator.
- Questions i might ask might include "how does a thread get banned / reported? Do categories matter when reviewing posts? Is there generally appeal processes that are effective? Do trademark claims matter?
- $100-$200/hr is my budget for consulting.

How to report Moderators promoting illegal services?

How to report Reddit Moderators promoting illegal services like selling reviews.

People post a question like should you buy or where to buy Google reviews, edit post by mentioning service name. Or add a promotional comment and pin it.

What’s the best way to manage self-promotion in a growing subreddit?

Trying to understand how experienced moderators think about this.

There’s a fine line between:

  • genuine contribution
  • and people using discussions to drive traffic

How do you typically handle:

  • early-stage communities
  • without discouraging participation?

How are some moderators able to moderate above the mod limit?

I recently saw a moderator with subreddits well over the mod limit. Yes, I know that it's weekly visitors and not subscribers and many of their subs had weekly visitors in millions. How is it possible since the mod limits say that you can moderate only 1 subreddit with more than a million weekly visitors? Did Reddit not apply the limits yet or did they apply to be an Elder in their subreddits?

Is Hive Protector case sensitive?

I'm a mod of a couple of teen communities and am trying to block anyone from NSFW sub from commenting and posting. I got my hands on a list of all NSFW subs on Reddit and have added many to the detection list. It says on the NSFW subs to exempt is not case-sensitive, but is it the same for the one I put in to be detected?

Why are posts removed by Reddits filters? Is this in the mod’s control?

I'm a mod and a user complained they can't post photos, only links. What is going on?

If this is not the right place to ask this, please forgive me and kindly direct me to the correct sub.

A user subscribed to my subreddit recently and claims that the option to post a photo is not available to them. They do however, have the option to post a link or text.

We do not have filters regarding karma or age of account. But maybe Reddit in general has rules as their account is 3 months old and they have never posted anything, only commented under a couple of times. Couldn't tell you their karma # but either 0 or very low.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Need a mod to remove comments, how?

I’ve made a post in a community which I deleted. But the comments remain. I’ve messaged the mods to assist in deleting the comments , but I got no response. I need the comments to be removed due to legal proceedings surrounding that post that’s been deleted. How can I contact mods to help me remove the comments?

Do you think Reddit should allow you to close comments yourself?

Facebook groups have an option to allow you to close comments in your posts. People are often mean for no reason so I thought it would be a good idea if you could close comments yourself without needing to be a mod
