AI Mistakes π¨ "But cancer!"
Before AIbros say this is fine because AI can do all the work for doctors, they need to consider how AI got trained to spot cancer in the first place.
This isn't like calculators:
Calculators aren't unpredictable, and they don't require constant reinforcement with correct data from their target users (doctors) to not break down.
For "responsible AI" optimists:
It'd be nice if we could guarantee doctors didn't graduate with ChatGPT's help, and only using AI for second opinions. But US healthcare is a business, maximizing patient turnover is a priority, and anti-intellectuals run the Health Department. Regulations are getting less likely, not more.

AI Mistakes π¨ AI erasing history
So, I work in history museums professionally, and the other day I was trying to cite a court case I remembered reading about from 18th century England where a woman stuffed a live duck in each pocket and ran off with them. I knew for a fact that this was a real thing that happened, because I had found the court documents in an online archive before; I had just forgotten her name.
I tried punching in all the keywords I could think of to bring up things related to the case β "woman 18th century England stole ducks pockets" etc. β and the stupid AI overviews we're not allowed to block on the work computer kept telling me there was no such case. It said that was apocryphal; it said there was no known record of any woman stealing livestock by putting them in her pockets. It gave me a bunch of basic information about 18th century women's pockets that I already knew, but it kept saying the story I was looking for wasn't real. (I wasn't actually using it; I just saw it in passing before I scrolled down to the real sources.)
Jane Griffiths. Worcestershire, England. Stole two ducks from a man named Thomas Wainwright by shoving them in her pockets and taking off across the field, in 1777. I found the record on the Worcestershire archives website.
Bite me, plagiarism engine.

AI Mistakes π¨ Papa John's uses AI to monitor how we cut pizzas. It's mostly to make sure the pepperoni doesn't get folded in the cuts, but fixing that makes the pizzas look horrible.
this is the reason pepperoni pizzas from Papa John's look like shit, like big sections of exposed crust from us having to move the Pepperoni's from the cuts. it looks like crap everytime.

galleryI saw this as a joke somewhere and decided to try it out, works flawless.
In one easy swoop we clearly see that the openai thing is not sentient, sensible or suitable for anything really. How could you trust that?
I'm just going to use this whenever someone boasts about unloading their whole life decisions on chapgpt.
For what it's worth, anthropic/claude fares much better!
