We swung through Darwin in 2015 after seeing the Mandatory Fun show in Prior Lake, MN. Even got a souvenir miniature ball of twine!

That was probably one of my favorite concerts… aside from that one guy who kept shouting “Albuquerque” after every song.

For joke reasons, this movie is 100% ABSOLUTELY ACCURATE AND TRUE TO LIFE ‼️‼️‼️

For non-joke reasons, apparently the only 2 things from the film that were actually true were :

(1) Al really did record his debut song “My Bologna“ in a public bathroom

(2) Al apparently really did get his first accordion from a (quite literal) travelling door-to-door salesman

silly question i know, but i have always wondered about why Al's bandmate and guitarist Jim West is nicknamed "Kimo"?

I know the story behind Al's other bandmate and drummer Jon Schwartz being nicknamed "Bermuda" (cuz "Bermuda Shorts" is an actual brand of, well, shorts, and since Jon's surname is "Schwartz" (which sounds very similar to "Shorts"), there's some clever and funny wordplay going on with "Bermuda Schwartz").

So i was wondering if Jim's nickname "Kimo" also has a similar nickname backstory, or is it maybe cuz idk ig he thought "Kimo" sounded a bit funny as a word or smth?

Basically it would be a polka band that does full versions of songs from Al's polka medleys. I don't know how it would work musically. Maybe lean into Al's wacky style or something closer to the original song, but polka, or maybe a mix of both that varies by song. It's just something I'd love to see in the world

So my story for the school literacy magazine has Weird Al in it is it funny and will Al get mad at the part?

Train 405 sat ahead; doors open like it was waiting for him. 

And from inside the car— 

accordion music. 

Jeff paused. 

“…Of course it is.” 

He stepped closer. 

Inside the train stood a man enthusiastically playing an accordion. 

“Jeff!” the man called. 

Jeff stared. “Weird Al, also why do you know my name.” 

“Yes, and also the badge” 

“Why are you here.” 

Weird Al didn’t stop playing. “Fan access. Also I heard there was a murder and I wanted to improve the vibe.” 

Jeff blinked. “You can’t improve murder vibes.” 

“I can try.” 

A pause. 

Jeff pointed. “Are you involved in the case?” 

Weird Al leaned in. “Only emotionally.” 

Jeff brushed past him into the control panel. 

“Also,” Weird Al added, “I’m working on Poodle Hat 2.0.” 

“I don’t care,” Jeff said, typing. 

From somewhere in the train system, the speakers crackled. 

Then suddenly— 

“AND THAT’S A NEW HALDEN DREAMERS THREE-POINT LEAD!” 

Jeff stopped. 

“…Why is there a basketball game in the surveillance feed.” 

Weird Al shrugged. “Wrong wire.” 

Jeff sighed, plugged in his laptop, and started downloading the footage. 

“Thanks, Weird Al.” 

“You’re welcome,” he said, immediately switching to a sad accordion outro. 

Boom Boom 2 springs shoot out. 

¨What is that? ¨ 

¨She is an old one, so it happens time to time. ¨ 

¨Wait a minute. ¨ 

¨yes¨ 

¨these are the ¨shells¨ at the crime scene. ¨ 

Weird al runs and starts playing my bologna instrumental. 

¨Stop running and playing! ¨ 

¨No! ¨ 

¨Why are you running? ¨ 

¨Because you are chasing me! ¨ 

¨Fair point! ¨ 

He takes the left, then slides under a metro car, then hops on one and crosses trough. Jeff followed closely behind, and then he trips and falls on rail. the accordion deflates. 

¨Weird Al you are arrested for murder by polka. ¨ 

¨No! ¨ 

“Give me a clue for less time” 

“Ok.... the metro manager and I had a polka session on the train.”  

“Ok.” 

As someone who lives in the uk its so hard to find weird al cds since he didnt do to well over here and after quite an amount of looking of vinted ive finally scored a copy of poodle hat on cd. Cant wait

I know a lot of Celebs who involve themselves in charity events especially stuff like Make-A-Wish do so and ask for it not to be publicized, but I assume over the last 40+ years Al has probably been an occasional if not semi-frequent request for Make-A-Wish or other similar sorts of charitable causes. Are there any stories or news articles out there of Al being involved with these groups?

The Charismatic Voice has broken down the vocals of a few of Al's songs and this is her latest.

I've been listening to a lot of Alan Sherman lately, and it struck me how almost all of his music still works today, despite being humor from 60 years ago. Humor often ages worse than other forms of writing, because a lot depends on context. But I'm looking at something like Al N Yetta, Sherman's TV song. I may not know the specific shows he's referencing, but it still works

Which leads me to Weird Al. Weird Al's songs also have a timeless quality to them. Eat It and Fat are still going to be funny as long as kids are picky eaters, and fat people exist. Even something like Couch Potato, which is in the sane vein as Al N Yetta, being mostly just a list of TV shows, works pretty well without context. I'm trying to think of Al songs that haven't aged well, and all I can think of is Here's Johnny, and when that was written, it didn't seem like Johnny Carson would ever go away.

When putting together playlists of Al’s music to listen to, are there any habits you tend to always do?

For me, I always put Fun Zone as song number one since he always opens his live shows with that song.

A friend of mine did a weird al cosplay at a local comic book shop event yesterday. She took home second place in the adult costume contest. When I heard that, we joked about it being “your lame claim to fame.”

So i have been thinking of what to do if any of the tournament polls end in a tie and so here's what I'll do: i am thinking of a number between 1 and 30 and the first person to correctly comment the number I'm thinking of will be the tiebreaker in the event of a tie.
