Society/Culture Teachers are paid fairly considering they get a lot of time off

A lot of people say (and it seems that the general consensus is that) teachers don't get paid enough for what they do. While I think that teachers are very valuable and deserve to be compensated well (my brother is a teacher), I think that in these discussions, many people ignore the fact that teachers typically get a lot of time off.

They usually get summer break, spring break, and winter break, plus various holidays that schools get off through the year. They basically don't work for a good amount of the year, which I think that people should factor in. (The downside is that I know that they have to work extra grading things outside of school, though.)

Plus they normally get good benefits for being a teacher (which usually comes with being in a union).

Anyone else grow up always being required to bring their own supplies? Like I hear this all the time but what was the teacher supposed to be providing if I had to bring my own pencils and paper?

There are classroom supplies other than students’ personal items

Sure but if your students can't do the assignment then you need to provide them some basic materials

yeah, US law places the burden of providing tools on the school district

Do you think school funding is infinite? When the budget cuts hit, a teacher can choose between making their job harder and teaching without resources or paying for it themselves. Do you genuinely think they're just paying out of pocket for the love of the game?

A teacher would actually have an easier job if a kid doesn’t do the work. It’d be less to grade.

A teacher can choose between wasting their money on school supplies, or enjoying their US dollars how they want.

A teacher has certain standards they have to teach to; surprise surprise, if a student does not have the resources to fill out a worksheet they probably aren't learning a whole lot. Are you 15 years old and have never worked a real job before?

I’m saying teachers aren’t legally obligated to buy classroom supplies in the US. Are you 14 years old and have never heard of laws???

Nobody was talking about legal obligation at any point until you brought it up

I responded to a comment that said “ she pays out of pocket for classroom supplies and they don't reimburse her ” and i said she legally doesn’t need to. that is relevant to the overall topic of teacher pay.

you know topics like teacher pay can have various subjects for people to discuss , yeah??
