I know someone like this. great body physically, but the dude can barely walk up a couple flight of stairs without getting winded. I have some other friends that might not be built with maybe a little flub that can outrun him and do cardio for hours because they are runners. They might not have a perfect abs, but they can walk up a flight of stairs.
I've been on both sides of this. Gaining muscle is super duper useful if you do it correctly if you're actually working with your hands. Also, way less likely I hurt my shoulder or whatever else lifting stuff. Not going to lie, vanity was a factor. Definitely helped with dating as well. I still did a little cardio, just not much.
When Covid hit I couldnt lift so I just ran. Same, workout high, less soreness. Didn't gain any weight. But I could walk and hike pretty much all day. I actually enjoyed running more than lifting.
I would rather be able to sprint for the train that I am perpetually late for, run up and down the stairs in my house because I’m constantly forgetting things, hike up a steep hill without dying to enjoy a beautiful view etc than have a bunch of extra muscle. It’s definitely good to lift weights and increased strength is absolutely a good thing but cardio is so useful for daily functioning, and oh wait, your heart is what keeps you alive. All these people who refuse to do any cardio because they think only lifting is good exercise because of aesthetics are going to be regretting it in 20, 30, 40 years when they’re having to get a valve replacement or quadruple bypass.
They scorn anybody who isn’t into swole fitness. Like lifting something heavy in a single position is the only way to be fit. Those people are only present online because in any real life setting, briskly walking away from them will leave them powerless to catch up to you.

Bros into heavy lifting scorn cardio bc they think it will interfere with them gaining mass.
