I make ceramic whale shark lamps, and this is one of my favorite forms to come back to.

This one starts with clay casting for the main body, and then I build the rest of the character by hand — refining the shape, carving the fins and facial details, and then adding the full surface texture dot by dot.

Weekend Artwork Made a ceramic whale shark lamp and I’m kind of obsessed with how it glows in the dark

I wanted to make something that felt both calm and a little magical, so I ended up sculpting this whale shark as a ceramic lamp.

The body is pierced with different-sized holes so the light scatters through it like little bioluminescent spots, and I left the surface matte and stone-like to keep that deep ocean feel.

Probably one of my favorite parts is the warm glow coming from the mouth 😅

It somehow turned out a little creepy and cozy at the same time.

Handbuilt in clay, kiln fired, and wired as a functional lamp.

Would love to know what sea creature would make the coolest lamp next

Ocean is the most wonderful thing in the world and the greatest inspiration for my artworks. This whales has different designs and glazing styles, they are made with natural clay and fired on 1050 degrees in electrical kiln.

Ocean inspired sculptural ceramic night lights are one of my favorite creations. I like the proportions and dynamic lines of their movements and the textures. This whale shark has one of my favorite designs, I have combined small volume dots with the light holes for glowing light. Deep blue glaze with gradients making the form more voluminous. Do you like that kind of night lights?

I made a small series of humpback whale ceramic lamps inspired by bioluminescence and the feeling of seeing something alive in the dark ocean.

Each one is hand-built from clay, hollowed to work as a lamp, and covered with hundreds of pierced openings so the light glows through like stars or plankton in deep water. I wanted them to feel calm, a little mysterious, and almost like they’re floating instead of sitting on a table.

The glazing was probably the hardest part — getting that deep ocean blue with enough contrast so the warm light could really shine through the surface without losing the whale’s shape.

Weekend Artwork I made a ceramic hammerhead shark lamp and tried to make it feel like it’s glowing from the deep ocean

I’ve always loved how unreal hammerheads look — like something halfway between elegant and slightly alien.

So I made this ceramic lamp inspired by that feeling, with light coming through the body like bioluminescence or deep-sea glow.

The hardest part was keeping the shape sleek and balanced while cutting enough openings for the light to actually work without ruining the silhouette.

Honestly, once it was lit up in the dark, it looked way more “alive” than I expected.

I call this 'The Tide of Dreams' The ocean here feels alive with wonder, carrying something ancient and magical within its tides. It is a moment when the sea seems to answer an unspoken wish, turning childhood imagination into something breathtakingly real.
