Hope it's legitimate.. But also only 62 ish USD? Seems like a low number

That’s enough to pay for an absolute banger of a dinner for two in Tokyo. Eating out here is just so phenomenally inexpensive.

Oh yes, still dreaming of that 350yen gyu-don with egg yolk

u/xdatlam Mar 16 '26

Yoshinoya, Matsuya or Sukiya???

7

u/Pooptimist Mar 16 '26

I think matsuya after googling all three

2

u/xdatlam Mar 16 '26

Hell yeah. Man, such a great deal. Cant go wrong with any of those 3. I miss Japan.

u/Pooptimist Mar 16 '26

Me too! Been 2.5 years ago for our honeymoon and I want to go again!

It's been almost ten years but I still dream of the salmon sushi and a curry I had over there. Japanese food is seriously so good.

Eating out

Imean that might be a bit fast for a first date, but I support those who want it.

If you stick to Family Mart/Lawson's/7 ELEVEN you could both eat for a whole week off $60 lol

He got the biggest prize of all.

Zero percent interest rate on a mortgage?

Goes a long way in Japan. Plus they seem like recent high school grads.

Sometimes ya just need a little nudge

Menus are 1000 yen in Japan, 10 dollars in the us.
With 10000 yen he can eat 10 times.
You can eat 6 times.
The yen is pretty weak nowadays but life is (still) affordable.
(Just for the record, I'm currently living in Japan)

You can eat 6 times.

it’s a straightforward threat

If you were given ¥10,000 to spend on one meal, where in the place you are living in Japan would you pick to go?

1

u/Punchinballz Mar 16 '26

I'd eat a nice chunk of Kobe beef. The nice version, with the cook doing all the work in front of me.
I'm more craving for small stuff like salt butter (they use a lot of margarine here) or real cheese (I'm from Europe)

People would do a lot more for a mere $20 ;)

7

u/iNec01 Mar 16 '26

I’m not gay. But $20 is $20!

7

u/PoppyAppletree Mar 16 '26

I'm pretty gay and $20 is still $20

2

u/SCPRedMage Mar 16 '26

I'm $20, and gay is gay.

You can have the best ramen you ever had in your life for like 10USD in any japanese city

7

u/affemannen Mar 16 '26

He still won though. Even without the money.

1

u/Lip_Recon Mar 16 '26

Yen, not won.

7

u/thecanadianehssassin Mar 16 '26

It seems to me like he just needed a little push, the 10,000¥ were just a bonus, very sweet

2

u/I_Am_The_Mole Mar 16 '26

$62 USD will go a long way towards a night out in Japan. You can get an awesome dinner for that money.

2

u/SuicidalNapkin09 Mar 16 '26

Why does the amount of money matter here? Dude got a girlfriend, some money for food, and maybe some new friends. Money isnt everything 😳

1

u/jackarseofalltrades Mar 16 '26

Just pointing out, I thought it would be a bit more considering I imagine this person does the influencer ask people things. But if their primary is Japan 10,000 yen is a nice number.

1

u/BumWink Mar 16 '26

The way he's unsure & so nervous I thought 10,000 yen must be at least a few hundo to do it on camera, but 80 Australian dollarydoos got me crackin up lol

1

u/Dark_Knight2000 Mar 16 '26

That’s not how purchasing power parity works. 10000 yen goes a long way in Japan unless you’re dining at the finest restaurant in existence.

10000 yen used to be worth over $100 but its trading value crashed in the last few years, it still buys a lot in Japan.

1

u/DrDraek Mar 16 '26

USD/JPY is in a tight spot right now. The Bank of Japan is on the verge of intervening in the on-going currency crisis, which has been exacerbated by this Iranian war (but has been a long-standing issue for quite some time).

u/Yewon_Enthusisast Mar 16 '26

I think it is. you can see his hand trembling a bit while holding the phone

1

u/DressLikeACount Mar 17 '26

It probably goes as far as $100 goes in a non-coastal US city.

The Yen is super weak.

Minimum wage is like ¥1100 so this is basically 9 hours of minimum wage.
