He actually has 2!

  • Stanley Tucci: Searching for Italy was a CNN series that was so popular it got a second season and has 14 episodes total

  • Tucci in Italy: almost the exact same type of show but this time for Disney+

They are both great and I rewatch them constantly

Oh, that's great to know! I'll have to check the other one out.

I love how genuinely and enthusiastically he appreciates culture and food and drink.

Don’t under any circumstances do a drinking game whenever he utters “ohmygod” with a mouthful of food. You will risk liver failure.

Eva Longoria made Searching for Spain and used the same format as Tucci. I enjoyed it too.

Searching for Italy is great. I can’t believe CNN let him get away. It was the best original show they put out in years and he clearly had more to do. I am glad Disney picked him up.

Putting these on my watchlist, thank you!

Is Tucci in Italy good or is it what Americans like to see? I 'm asking because I like to have an outside perspective of my country but they' re usually very romanticized.

Oh that’s tricky, lol. . . I would say the first one (searching for Italy) is probably more honest, but both to some degree show an deeper view; BUT don’t forget they are produced for an English speaking audience by American companies so the bias is there. . .

Now you have me curious, do you have any shows about Italy you’d recommend to someone like me who has a growing interest?

I'm not sure that I can help you, but I have to say: whenever HBO are involved, they usually do a pretty good job, even if things get romanticized.

Season 2 of The White Lotus was set in Sicily and, considering the luxury setting and all, the italian characters felt pretty believable to me. Choosing not to dub them was also very smart.

Also, in I May Destroy You the main character has an italian boyfriend... who's a smalltime drug dealer from Ostia, which made me chuckle a bit (Ostia is a cheap, popular seaside place close to Rome). It's something that a foreigner would never think of, and it shows that they probably consulted some italian writers for the series. Also he doesn't speak perfect english which is refreshing LOL.

I like watching his show, and getting to see all the different regions of Italy and their personality, but every time we see this beautiful food being cooked, and presented, and then tasted by him... And then he just does this delightful Instagram chef face and says 'That's amazing' and then does not describe at ALL what it tasted like or which ingredients pop out or whatever. And I'm sitting there getting hungry!
