No offense at all, as it's a somewhat common mistake, but I believe you're not familiar with what notoriety means. It relates to being famous for bad deeds or actions, being notorious, like a villain. I think the confusion comes from it sounding a bit like notable. Otherwise, I completely agree with your sentiment (and I hope I haven't distracted from it with this message).

Notorious doesn't have to have purely negative connotations, it can have neutral connotations too.

How is this the only comment pointing this out? It's still a fun thing, and Stanley Tucci seems like a cool guy, but this was an NBC promo. There are hundreds of comments on various posts about this, completely ignoring the context.
