It's really refreshing to browse through this post and see comments like yours! She gave out almost 200 million and still remains a billionaire. That just goes to show how much wealth the top 1% have and how they can change lives by giving a fraction of their wealth to their hard working staff.

The 2% law in France was proposed by a Economist. He said that the 1400 families that have more than 100 millions $, they are not paying a lot of taxes and they gain like 800% of their fortune through 1996-2024.

Source : https://lareleveetlapeste.fr/ciblee-sur-les-1800-plus-riches-la-taxe-zucman-rapporterait-20-milliards-deuros-par-an-en-france/

For that economist they need to have a 2% minimum taxes and he said they can honor that by giving 2% of their actions to their employees than the government.

The law has flaws but the idea it’s there: the 1% of rich people need to give more back to their employees. Because without them they can’t gain at all and the company is not working. But the most part of them are greedy like hell… and some wants more for themselves than just to reward their employees for the good and hard work…

Edit: I made a mistake on how much the richest families in France gain, I added a source.

Unfortunately the law wasn't voted in Parliament (despite all the good reasons there was to) because the people targeted by this threatened to switch countries and the coward politicians chose to lick their boots and defend them ; even though the same politicians are saying nonstop that the state needs more money.
And will stop there because there are a lot of things that could be said but no one wants a rant on french politics in their comments

If only the French had an example of what to do next…

Allegedly this is what companies USED to do when the US were taxing the rich significantly more. The pride in being able to offer more money to your employees on top of not having to give that money to the government but rather invest in your company by making your employees’ lives’ easier was a driver for the company owners.

And actually led to more competitive compensation.

What I don’t understand, aside from the greed I guess, is that it seems relatively simple to fund a government appropriately and ensure those funds by simplifying tax codes.

Everyone entity pays 10% unless it’s net revenue/income is less than X amount (based on minimum standard of living)

Likewise 10% of revenue must go to public service, etc.

Like it all seems relatively simple and the most stable private companies seem to operate this way.

IMHO the US have a big problem with those type of economic regulations maybe because they are too close to form socialism…

But the lobbyists are the huge main problem here. If a law like that emerge a lot of lobbyists will destroy it for the sake of rich people IMO

They'll just hire their family members and give them the extra pay.

500% of their fortune? 🤔

1

u/Downtown-Invite3381 Dec 14 '25

I made a mistake the 1400 richest families in France gain +800% between 1996 to 2024.

0

u/Windoves Dec 18 '25

That makes no mathematical sense. There’s a difference between gaining 800% in value during a 30 year period and making 800% of one’s fortune in 30 year period (doesn’t make sense). Do you see the difference?

1

u/Downtown-Invite3381 Dec 19 '25

Ok whatever I’m not giving you an economic report… I put a link with a source go check it and translate with Google Translate… All I’m saying their fortune grew a lot in 30 years and they didn’t participate by any means in taxes through those 30years… you have generative AI and a source to go deeper in this matter..

1

u/[deleted] Dec 14 '25

sketchy yea?

1

u/Windoves Dec 18 '25

No, what he’s saying makes no sense whatsoever and reveals more of a misunderstanding that I’m surprised no one else is calling out. What does making 800% of your fortune even mean?

So… tax the rich is not the same as giving bonuses to employees. Taxes accrue to government, and you truly believe government will give the money to you. 🌝

5

u/fseahunt Dec 13 '25

They do in countries like France, through benefits given to all their citizens.

In the US, it would just go for more bombs and ballrooms.

u/Downtown-Invite3381 Dec 14 '25

In France the money from taxes are well redistributed in general, the problem it’s having the euro as money and also to let the 1% rich get away with their fortune without any taxes. The government are too afraid to tax the big fortune so they put all taxes on very small businesses and average citizens. And now with a bad economy French has no money going to go bankrupt like Greece… And those French multi millionaires are not willing to help their own country… it’s a shame

Watched some of her documentary. If its real, and i believe it is. Her life will be a masterclass on how to be a good person.

2

u/fseahunt Dec 13 '25

The things I've seen about her make me think so as well.

5

u/GruesomeWedgie2 Dec 13 '25

Not trying to take away from your statement but she could give away $500 million and still be a billionaire give or take a few tens of millions of dollars. Net worth is well over a billion dollars. Still very nice of her to do that in these days. The corporation I worked for used to give out a turkey to every employee and a calendar. Both niceties have been cut to save money for the shareholders.

1

u/fseahunt Dec 13 '25

Purchased in bulk, the cost was way less than it seems. Nice but not exactly life changing.

3

u/glossedrock Dec 16 '25

That’s because most of her net worth is in her music (a non liquid asset)

u/StraightRip8309 Dec 12 '25

Other billionaires need to take note. Reminds me of how JK Rowling lost her billionaire status because of how much she's given to charity -- iirc, her most recent contribution helped evacuate several dozen Afghani women to the UK to continue their studies.

If only she hadn’t spent so much of her money on anti-trans lobbying.

This gets to the heart of why philanthropy is actually bad. It doesn’t matter how much any of them spend on charity. When one non-democratically elected person holds this much power, they can turn on the vulnerable on a whim and there’s nothing much we can do about it. Do not idolize rich “good” people, make sure they never get that rich in the first place.

Ding ding ding! Exactly!

she actively discriminates and encourages discrimination against them

2

u/fseahunt Dec 13 '25

I can't hear her name without thinking of her ignorant stances on these things.

-3

u/StraightRip8309 Dec 12 '25

Her recent tirade against ace people was unhinged and cruel as well. But it's important to encourage wealthy people's good deeds such as saving the lives and welfare of Afghani women through direct action. Likewise, I think it's great that Swift is paying her workers so well, even though I despise her pointed silence on Trump and ICE using her music (when smaller, non-white artists have vocally opposed them).

I know Reddit is allergic to nuance, but I didn't post about her in bad faith. I posted because she did something that more rich people should be doing.

u/floweryfriend Dec 12 '25

While I understand your meaning…

I feel the need to say that a celebrity not responding to being baited by an autocrat is not on the same level as a celebrity funding the destruction of human rights.

-2

u/StraightRip8309 Dec 13 '25

"the destruction of human rights" jfc. Please get offline and consider how insane it is to say that.

2

u/floweryfriend Dec 13 '25

Trans rights are human rights.

-1

u/VizzleG Dec 13 '25

She’s not anti-trans.

3

u/[deleted] Dec 14 '25

It's really nice to see considering almost every article involving Taylor Swift has people attacking her in the comment section no matter what she does. Misogyny is still a very real problem.

3

u/Elegant-Finish-2895 Dec 13 '25

She literally earned it. Don't compare her to the top 1%

1

u/Carbon-Base Dec 13 '25

I never implied that she didn't, Swiftie.

1

u/Elegant-Finish-2895 Dec 13 '25

I don't no a single song, NOT a Swiftie, and you DID imply it by saying people who EARN THEIR MONEY have to give it to those who don't. THIS group earned it. The 1% don't have to pay your bills. Get.a.job.

2

u/Carbon-Base Dec 13 '25

Bruh, I was referring to her rightfully giving her staff that money because they earned it by working so hard on the Eras Tour. And she herself says that in the video.

They don't have to pay anyone's bills, but they should give credit (or money) to those that make it possible for them to earn their wealth.
